Jason Lirette There this little thing called principle in the way. But beyond that it was over 40 years before Mike would even think about singing. He’s very shy or was. They use to try to get him to sing and they would turn the mic up as load as it would go and you still couldn’t hear him.
Here's a clip of just that...czcams.com/video/NrmmVnZrLqY/video.html He sounds remarkably like Tom in my opinion. Wish he'd jumped in more often with vocals...but, his playing was just fine!!
Thanks so much for this. I hope Mike continues playing 'Heartbreakers songs when the Spirit moves him. Pretty amazing how much his voice naturally matches Tom's in tone and timbre. Makes me wonder a little why he didn't sing more backups with Tom, but that's neither here nor there. I'm just glad he's willing to carry on Tom's singing and song legacy to _whatever_ degree, and in my humble opinion, he's definitely worthy to do so. Love ya Mike C., and rest peacefully Mr. Petty...
I never understood why but I’d always heard that Mike was too self-conscious of his voice to sing in front of other people like this. If that was true then obviously Tom’s passing has pushed him past that fear (or into it). You can tell he’s nervous when he says that he may not remember all the words. I hope we get to hear more of him singing in Tom’s place, not just for us, but also for himself and that it will help him secure his footing and heal a little each time he does. We love you Mike! ❤️
+John- I didn't realize how closely he does indeed match Tom's voice! Amazing. I always thought that Mike is one of the very best lead guitarist around, and I sure when he produces songs with Fleetwood Mac his input will be very important.
Great to see him do it just as he did with the heartbrakers, even without being able to bounce back and forth with Ben on the keyboards on that last solo. My favorite Petty song.
It would have been great to see Mike and Tom sing together, but it's great that Mike's continuing to play and sing the songs he played with Tom in memory of him, great to see him still enjoying them as always. Tom I'm sure is looking down with a deep sense of pride at this tribute you did for him Mike...R..I..P....Tom, your music lives on in our lives and is your lasting legacy.
Wow! One of my favorite TP&HB songs. So nice to play along with Mike, I pretend I am right there with him. I feel very privileged. This taught me that they play this capo'd up on first fret.
If you've heard Echo or Mudcrutch 2 you probably do and don't even realize it :P He did Hole in my Head and Victim of Circumstance, I think. I thought it was Tom until I actually saw the credits somewhere.
Having just lost my closest friend of 50 years, I can’t imagine the pain Mike is feeling on stage. I hope he’s finding well deserved peace singing his beloved friend’s parts. It must hurt like hell.
Hey Peter, yes this show was in a very small venue, and one of the first ones that Mike played...he sang a couple of TPATHs songs mixed in with his other Dirty Knobs ones. He played another one...Something Good Coming that I recorded, and it was very emotional. I know he asked people later, not to share it on sites, so I haven't...I think I changed that privacy setting on my channel...but, it was obvious that it was not easy for him. Still...I think it was the best way he had to cope and get through the loss of his friend. I am very sorry for your loss. Brien
Mike looks so lost without his front man buddy I hope He recovers from the loss it would be tough but I still admire this guy guitar playing very much a special musician!
This is the second time listening to this fantastic performance the band did such a nice job on this song and Mike sounds right on! Tom Petty would be proud and when all the Fleetwood Mac fans here Mike CAMPBELL they will all be believers.♥️🦆🧚🏻♂️✌️
Play it loud, play it proud....no one can play it like a Heartbreaker. Tom looked down and had a little fun @ 4:44. Good to hear from you T.P. Thanks for this Mike.(and for helping to channel Tom!).
Tom let Mike and the knobs know hey i hear ya and doing a good job and as for sounding alot like Tom Mike spent years with Tom Petty and it seems after all that work together something had to rub off thank god the Heartbreakers still have a faint Heartbeat keeo up the good work Mike R I P Tom Petty
Yes he does and seems a bit shy Like he is new to this world yet he is an icon in this world. I am so glad he is sharing this part of his musical talents
Mike is such an amazing musician! Saw him with Fleetwood Mac in Sx Falls SD in February. It confirmed my suspicions he was a genius. I hope he and the HB decide to put him in to replace Tom and do a tour. We would buy tickets. They are still sweating talent and deserve our respect as fans. Love all those boys. They are still mourning. At least Dana and the girls are. It breaks my heart to see Dana struggle with the loss of the love of her life. She is the reason Tom was with us for the last 20 yrs. Heroin would have killed him long ago if she hadn't loved him so much that he found what he was missing his whole life. Love and balance.
Wow. I'm sorry this video runs out during a beautiful picking solo. Campbell beautifully playing a Rickenbacker with its ringy tones. I searched for and listened to other versions of this song with The Dirty Knobs and in each of those videos he's playing different guitars that sound good, but not as good as with this Rickenbacker. This is just so good, thanks for posting.
Can't wait to see them in San Francisco. I've been watching the videos and love the band. Mike and Benmont were the Heartbreakers sound, and they were amazing. Totally unappreciated by most as far as I'm concerned. Hope to seem them both together again at some point. Benmont...some to San Francisco and sit in for a few songs, it they'll let you. :-) Though...also...the Dirty Knobs rock...so it will be fine if you don't :-)
Didn’t Mike write this song? I didn’t realise he wrote refugee. I guess the reason him and Tom both sound alike is because they co wrote so much together. Mike is an amazing musician. So effortless and cool 😎
Mike carries the torch now plain and simple the fans love Toms music and every member of that band is just as much part of that so to stop playing it would be WRONG. @MIKE YOU PLAY AND SING YOUR ASS OFF AND PLEASE TURN IT UP CAUSE IM GETTING OLD AND I CANT HEAR YOU IN TEXAS CAN I ? YOU COMING TO TEXAS TO LOVE US ? ILL BUILD YOU SOMETHING WITH 6 STRINGS ON IT IF YA DO...
Was that the guitar tech trying to steal the show near the end ??? Mr Campbell to Mr Guitar Tech, little word in your ear next time I hear BONG...you'll be going BONG out the door LOL
So glad to hear this. Amazing that Mike can pull of vocals when he wants. I remember when I first learned he was singing "I Don't Want to Fight" on Echo. I had no idea! Also, what the hell *was* that at 4:46? Haha.
Well, I will forever miss Tom s vocals, however,I still love the Heart Breakers, maybe they could ask Bob Dylan,Jeff Lynne and Roger Mcguinn to tour with them and do some vocals ,maybe in the near future, just a suggestion
Flightbag TY SO much for sharing this, I always wondered why Mike didn't sing back-up with Tom ???? Sence you have followed them around for years,,do you know why????
Thanks Sherry, I really don't know...Mike has a great voice, and this was actually the first DK's show I ever went to...and was blown away. I will ask though, and if I get an answer...I will let you know.
Mike you sound great thanks for keeping these songs alive!!!
Great Voice , Sounds a little like Tom !.......Good Job Mike !
Mike never wanted to sing but now he has to. Someone up above is proud of him.
WOW MIKE DOES AN AWESOME JOB ON THE VOCALS!!!
Hes got the guitar too
Edith Brown Exactly!!
I would pay to see a Heartbreakers show with Mike singing. Take my money now.
Jason Lirette What a great idea that is I would pay in a heartbeat 💔🙄💔
I say they bring Charlie Starr along too
Jason Lirette come too Columbus Ohio
Jason Lirette There this little thing called principle in the way. But beyond that it was over 40 years before Mike would even think about singing. He’s very shy or was. They use to try to get him to sing and they would turn the mic up as load as it would go and you still couldn’t hear him.

He sounds remarkably like Tom in my opinion. Wish he'd jumped in more often with vocals...but, his playing was just fine!!
Incredible guitarist. Mike also sounds good on this song, it's right in his wheelhouse.
I could not love this anymore than I already do!!
Mike is one of most original sounding players out there. His tone and style ,is habit forming, you just want to hear more and more!
Mike Campbell and The Heartbreakers!
Yea
Oh my....... I wasn’t ready for this.... made the hair on the back of my neck stand up... thanks so much for posting this for us... the fans ❤️
Right??
Thanks so much for this. I hope Mike continues playing 'Heartbreakers songs when the Spirit moves him. Pretty amazing how much his voice naturally matches Tom's in tone and timbre. I'm just glad he's willing to carry on Tom's singing and song legacy to _whatever_ degree, and in my humble opinion, he's definitely worthy to do so. Love ya Mike C., and rest peacefully Mr. Petty...
Since Mike wrote the music to virtually every Heartbreaker song, he has the right play them live.
I never understood why but I’d always heard that Mike was too self-conscious of his voice to sing in front of other people like this. If that was true then obviously Tom’s passing has pushed him past that fear (or into it). You can tell he’s nervous when he says that he may not remember all the words. Well said...
I read that TP encouraged Mike to sing with the Breakers, but Mike resisted mightily.
Great to see him do it just as he did with the heartbrakers, even without being able to bounce back and forth with Ben on the keyboards on that last solo. My favorite Petty song.
Love Mike Campbell. What a great tribute to TP.
What a ggggrrreeeaaaytt band. I'm shocked I believe Mike was very influencial in the Heartbreakers. Great voice , fantastic guitar player
I love this song a lot!
Great job, Mike and the Knobs!
Mike you kicked ass on "Wreck Me"!
Wow! One of my favorite TP&HB songs. So nice to play along with Mike, I pretend I am right there with him. I feel very privileged. This taught me that they play this capo'd up on first fret.
Rickenbacker: gorgeous sound. No wonder Tom and Mike loved The Byrds so much. Mike has a great band here - 'nice to see them doing this one.
Who knew Mike could nail Tom's vocals like that?? I love it! :D
Peter Dent it's shocking, but great!
i bet mike was singing with tom on a lot of songs and we never knew it.
If you've heard Echo or Mudcrutch 2 you probably do and don't even realize it :P He did Hole in my Head and Victim of Circumstance, I think. I thought it was Tom until I actually saw the credits somewhere.
They sound a lot alike.
His speaking voice is very similar to Tom's as well. Kinda crazy! :)
You Rock Mike
Having just lost my closest friend of 50 years, I can’t imagine the pain Mike is feeling on stage. I hope he’s finding well deserved peace singing his beloved friend’s parts. It must hurt like hell.

flightbag89 Thanks for that, Brien. Much appreciated.
Mike looks so lost without his front man buddy I hope He recovers from the loss it would be tough but I still admire this guy guitar playing very much a special musician!
He’s doing fine in Fleetwood Mac
So glad I stopped in . Mike , you rock . God bless Tom .. Miss him dearly
Fn love this song!!
Keep them songs Alive Mikey
Yes. And someone's gotta sing em. Mike will do.
Beautiful Tribute! Love to All!
This is the second time listening to this fantastic performance the band did such a nice job on this song and Mike sounds right on! Tom Petty would be proud and when all the Fleetwood Mac fans here Mike CAMPBELL they will all be believers.♥️🦆🧚🏻♂️✌️
Thank you.♥️🦆
I think Mike sounds like Mike CAMPBELL. I think he sings with his own voice and his own soul.😊✌️🦆
Barbara McCroy oh us Fleetwood Mac fans love us some mike Campbell at least this one
He's got that Jacksonville draw down perfectly......... Simply awesome........ I hope you tour the east coast
Gainesville?
Play it loud, play it proud....no one can play it like a Heartbreaker. Tom looked down and had a little fun @ 4:44. Good to hear from you T.P. Thanks for this Mike.(and for helping to channel Tom!).

Love this!
Tom’s passing “WRECKED ME”
This had to be really emotional for Mike in early 2018. Really enjoy the decades that he and the Heartbreakers gave to us!
Mike your singing great 👍🏻
nice job mike and the boys keep playing because we miss tom
Say flightbag, keep posting these great songs the knobs play. Original knob songs would be great. Thanks
Underrated guitarist. He showed his stuff in the last two albums
He sounds so much like Tom! This is classic!
Pretty darn good!
His vocals getting better
Sounds great!
Seriously made me almost cry on hearing this. Wonder how much he misses TP himself. I certainly always will miss him. Great stuff The Dirty Knobs.
Mike cuando vienes a Barcelona??,nos hace falta tu música
Mike; a very skilled guitarist. I am sure he misses Tom.
Tom is in the wind now and he needs us to TURN IT UP AND SING
Yes Mike was best friends with Tom. He was there in the very beginning ! He was devastated when Tom passed away
I loved the band as a whole. But my fave two were Mike and Tom. Tom's rendition of how he met Mike was absolutely hilarious.
Yes he does and seems a bit shy Like he is new to this world yet he is an icon in this world. I am so glad he is sharing this part of his musical talents
oh he sounds SO much like TOM.
When you hear someone else sing so much, you begin to sound like them. Oz Fox sounds like Michael Sweet.
All those years together...they rubbed off on one another big time.
He has a song on the album Echo where he sings...check it out. "I Don't Wanna Fight"
Both from G-Ville
Very nice! Thnx for sharing, Cheers!🍻✌💜
My goal in life is to sing You Wreck Me for the Dirty Knobs with MC playing lead...
Awesome! That's the first guitar I ever saw him play live.
s2seltaeb ...were you at this show?
mike campbell is soo good and watch how he always backs his people. if anyone is off key he picks it up
Wow , Mike sounds great. Tom is 😁
Mike is such an amazing musician! Saw him with Fleetwood Mac in Sx Falls SD in February. It confirmed my suspicions he was a genius. Too good for Fleetwood Mac. Mike's been through enough without all their problems and fighting. Mike deserves the best with Dirty Knobs.
he naild it
Oh mikey you rock me hard
Mike is SUCH a BAD MAMA JAMMA! and dirty knobs, such a cool name. DIG'M DIG 'em.
I noticed he messes up some of the lyrics on the second verse, but he still rocked the song!!
Guitar genius.
love this B.
Good job guys !
I love the Rickenbacker
is this a tear in my eye ?,i think so
Just makes me miss Tom all the more.
It is amazing to me how much Mikes voice sounds very simular to toms
Matt Laug on drums! AWESOME!!
Damn Mikes got that Petty energy❤❤❤ Thank you Mike love you brother
Coming to First Ave. Minneapolis on March 10th.
Jason Sinay is no slouch, he’s really pretty damn good
... that's enough to make me burst iin tears... Thanks Mr Campbell, we all miss Tom Petty so badly..
Didn’t Mike write this song? I didn’t realise he wrote refugee. I guess the reason him and Tom both sound alike is because they co wrote so much together. Mike is an amazing musician. So effortless and cool 😎
Saw Tom Petty on king of the hill waiting in line for Brownsville Station tickets good old Lucky "Smoking in the boys room"!
I wanna go see him live...😊💯
Mike carries the torch now plain and simple the fans love Toms music and every member of that band is just as much part of that so to stop playing it would be WRONG.
@MIKE YOU PLAY AND SING YOUR ASS OFF AND PLEASE TURN IT UP CAUSE IM GETTING OLD AND I CANT HEAR YOU IN TEXAS CAN I ?
YOU COMING TO TEXAS TO LOVE US ?
ILL BUILD YOU SOMETHING WITH 6 STRINGS ON IT IF YA DO...
Anyone notice how the other front singer never takes his eyes off of Mike, just like Mike never took his eyes off of Tom when playing live ???????
Sherry Graham Smith yes!
Would aldo love to see a tour
Call it:
The Heartbreakers....
I luv watchin Mike! Awesome, sexy guy.
Mike is the new Tom!
Oh that Mike Campbell , sure does sound like Tom ; ).
Go Guysi Go ❤
Hmmm, sometimes the best place to hide a secret is in Plain Site. ; )
this man can play guitar
Was that the guitar tech trying to steal the show near the end ??? Mr Campbell to Mr Guitar Tech, little word in your ear next time I hear BONG...you'll be going BONG out the door LOL
"Help me with the lyrics. I'm still learning them. I didn't use to sing this song." :-(
Me amore
❤️💕❤️💕❤️
Mike and the Heartbreakers should tour ...maybe with Dylan again....just look at the eagles ..the dead...keeping the music alive....
Oh man!! Have you got the rest of it?? Mike's solo was sounding soo good!! The vid cuts off at 5:10 :-( Otherwise...AWESOME!
I know....my battery died...and I should have stuck with my camera...but I still thought it was good enough to share!
💐
"I didn't used to sing this..." Sad statement. But I am glad he is singing this one and other Tom Petty songs
So glad to hear this. Amazing that Mike can pull of vocals when he wants. I remember when I first learned he was singing "I Don't Want to Fight" on Echo. I had no idea! Also, what the hell *was* that at 4:46? Haha.
I really like it...do you have the rest of the song? Thanks for posting!
sadly my phone battery died....most of the other songs were on my camera, and I should have stayed with that....much better sound and quality.
Looks like you had a good spot! Thanks again for sharing with all of us...much appreciated!
Hey when you guys coming NYC????
I just now got it. I was wondering how they got their name. I'm wondering if it has to do with dirty potentiometers?
Well, I will forever miss Tom s vocals, however,I still love the Heart Breakers, maybe they could ask Bob Dylan,Jeff Lynne and Roger Mcguinn to tour with them and do some vocals ,maybe in the near future, just a suggestion
Id love to see that.
I asked Benmont if they had any plans of a tribute concert with The Heartbreakers and special guest and he said no, there aren't any plans to do that.
I think Jakob dylan would be a good frontman
soliiiid!
Somewhere, Mike's first solo album lies asleep because Tom didn't want it to come out. Apparently it sounded too much like The Heartbreakers.
I will ask though, and if I get an answer...I will let you know.
flightbag89 he was very shy, to begin with, and didn’t want to sing.
I really don't know either...outside of his being so shy. But my guess is..he did the heavy duty guitar work and let Tom do the singing?
Tom wouldn't let him because he can't sing to great! LOL! Plus he had Benmont, and Howie
czcams.com/video/Z-wXfnX5enk/video.html here is the answer, he was to shy in the past...
I love Mike he honestly looks lost without Tom. I guess I am too 😢
Oh, yeah ... :>) ...
