How To Make A Kydex Sheath Taco Style | Knife Making

  • Up until recently I've been making pancake style kydex sheaths; however, in an effort to try something new I've ventured into making taco style kydex sheaths. I must say that I enjoy making the taco style sheath more. It's easier during the construction phase of the sheath since it stays together easily. I also like being able to add a sweet thumb ramp to the back of the sheath (not the thumbnail for this video doesn't show the thumb ramp I eventually put onto that sheath!). I hope yall enjoy this video, if you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comment section below.

I'm thinking taco. At least for knives, guns might be better with pancake. Have to look at some more examples before locking my final answer.

Taco for sure. However I really depends on the type of blade, the and how you want to use it will depend on the type of sheath style

I’ve been doing pancake but like the taco option. BUT I’m not having much success. They are coming out really loose and looking all wavy. Any suggestions?

I think I figured out what my problem was. I don’t think I was getting the kydex hot enough. On my fifth attempt I heated it up to 315 degrees. Had the consistency of a lasagna noodle. Layed the knife on it an folded. Than clamped the crap on the press. (Copied your press.). After 25 minutes took it out and looks great.

At 4min 30 sec, you point to the retention spot of the sheath. Have you found that this will leave scratch marks on the finished blade over time? Is this normal or do I need to do something to prevent this?
