Can we all take a moment to appreciate that Javi is the MVP and had no wild plot twists or fantastical connection to everything? That he was just a genuinely good dude trying to help?
Also a genuinely good guy who doesn't die and instead gets a happy ending???
apparently it was implied in the movies ending that unfiction cut javi out which is a great shame. he's a great man for crying out loud its a crime to cut him

My dogs a better private investigator than any stoner out there delivering taco bell....
That dude was in a movie with Harrison Ford called Clear and Present Danger. Amazing movie.
I don’t get why he had such terrible reviews. He was so great. 😅

javi was my favorite character. he chose to help june even though it wasn’t his problem, and even after june disrespected him, he still helped her. literal GOAT!!!!
Exactly!!! He was a big help to Javi.
I guess we can give him credit. He was trying to help at the end, but it was out of his hands at that point. If she hadn’t been disconnected from the internet he definitely would have called the cops for her.

the voicemail part killed me. after my nanna passed all i could do was listen to the voicemails she left me. some of them she’s irritated, some are just silence because she was bad with phones, and some are just her asking me to wake up or if i want to go get icecream. it breaks my heart
🫂🫂🫂🫂

Sorry for your loss
I totally get this. I would love to have some voicemails from my nana to listen to now.
Sorry for your loss, I understand I have my dads and my grandmother (his mom), his dad didn't use a phone but we have home movies thankfully. It took me a while to even be able to hear my dads voice, he also has a youtube channel with tons of stuff he did too so I can still hear him.
I thought the birth-dad's original plan was to stage his ex-wife's disappearance overseas (using the double), kill her, and then show back up in his daughter's life as a hero (to her), maybe torturing his ex for a few days, or using her in case he needed any questions answered. I figure that's why he didn't go pick his daughter up immediately, even though he knew where she was, he was hoping she'd believe the story he'd created about her mother getting engaged and abandoning her. I think he only switched plans when his daughter started to really unravel the deception around the woman his partner in crime was using as the decoy. When he saw his own daughter was unravelling the plot, that's when he went and grabbed her, and from then his plan was improvised.
Agree. If you take a close look of the screen , every time the doorbell cam turned on , there is a silver civic(dad's car) parking on the street.(either near the front yard or across the street , but it's always in the shot).
He is "keeping a eye on her" since the very beginning........just waiting for the plan to works.....He just didn't expect the daughter being that good at solving the case.(or jump to action that quickly).
Exactly

was thinking lost gone or dissappeared lmao
simple the dad had planned on murdering the mom and hiding her as the story of the kidnapping in south america would lead people to think she probably got lost there throwing any suspicion away, I presume he was planning on returning into the daughters life at that point when she would be alone, vulnerable mourning her dead lost mom, however the plan got ruined when junebug went all detective mode..
Great summation. I agree and I thought it worked fine as a twist.
Yes the plan mess up when junebug found out the double of her mom. Now they investigate her.
The added element being that he wanted to torture the mom first by having her “locked up like he was” before he killed her. It was an act of revenge against the mom, not him trying to find out where June was.
@@artistichick1701 This. It's quite clear he knew where June was.
Huge plot hole, why didnt the dad have junes real mom go to columbia? There wouldve been no loose ends, he couldve bonked her on the head there. It seems like so much unnecessary work to find a double. UNLESS he wanted to keep her alive. Which is weird bcs theres no reason to, especially if he wants to reunite with june.
I mean… sometimes it’s nice to have a happy ending. I usually like more realistic bittersweet endings but this one wasn’t bad. Lots of silly errors but overall sweet. I like seeing mother-daughter movies that end happily :)
Do you not believe good things can happen?
@@ollehkacb I think they're possible but using data gathered from my own life I've found that they're statistically unlikely.

@@jackiechun5817 I'm a firm believer in the double tap. There's a reason why many soldiers and some police are trained to put several rounds into an enemy. Even before guns they'd often stab dead bodies at least once because it wasnt uncommon for wounded men or even people pretending to be dead to stab you when you got close to them or had your back turned; that's even one of the reasons why some spears had a second point on the butt of the spear and it's why some daggers like the Stiletto were developed.
Am I the only one that thinks this movie is the most creative for putting domestic violence awareness in a very artistic and scary way but also the whole story is literally "plot twist, after plot twist after plot tiwst after plot twist." And June isn't a cliché character, she is very smart and knows how to use all these internet stuff. Very good critical thinker.
It will never not be weird to see this type of movie use a whole bunch of real-life apps and services, and it does not feel like product placement.
Like sure, they occasionally make up a service (presumably because the real life equivalents didn't want to show the audience at home how easy it would be for your account with them to be hacked) but that's fine.
Like no one app or site magically has all the answers, she has to work within the limitations that each has in the real world.
Provides a nice layer of realism to the whole thing
Yeah, the movies are made pretty well. Just not that good overall to me. Not rewatchable either unless you're an Easter Egg hound.
Wow I never thought about that with product placement 😮
I like the found footage genre and the Aesthetics and stuff but, this movie even watching a small part of it, just irritated me I do not like it at all. Web browsers and the fact this movie requires that you believe that people are investigating and interviewing people over the internet and Skyping all of this, it is just goofy goofy and a bit lazy. Hard PASS... Even the original. 👎🤨
@@neonicon8500 nobody asked you
I agree, maybe I got conditioned by CZcams and Netflix, but if I find a brand too noticeable I immediately think *product placement*.
I love this, it shows how technology can be used for almost anything and how it can LITERALLY save peoples lives. I should show my grandma this movie cuz she feels like technology is useless smh 💀
Fr!!
Javi is a really nice guy I’m glad that he got back with his son.
Throughout the movie I really thought that the Grace did something really bad which is why she kept her past hidden. I thought she killed the dad or something as it turns out the dad is responsible for everything.
That would have been more interesting.
@@smithtown00nah the way the movie did was more interesting because of the element of subverting all expectations that many will think
It’s kind of ironic how June’s airport sign says “Welcome back from prison” when she was being held prisoner by her dad
@@abbyc9924interesting foreshadowing in a way then!
Can't believe the five editors of Searching and Run ended up directing Missing. It went full circle, and pretty cool.
It was funny, my mom hardly goes to movies, but she shared that her and a friend saw this and she was so negative about the twist. She was pissed that the movie spends time insisting that the dad is dead only to make him the one behind it and suggesting the writers needed to go get lessons, that it's not a twist to tell people it can't be something/someone so that they never think it's that, but then go "aha, but it is that". Rarely have I heard her so mad at something so inconsequential as a movie plot, but she was.
Tbf it is ridiculously stupid
Sorta like a deus ex machina but for twists given there was little hints to it being the father, can sorta see why she didn't like it.
expectations subverted 😂
ahh come on, everyone knows that you can't be sure that someone is dead unless you see a body, if anything, isn;t it a red herring to constantly remind the audience that the father is dead, even though no one else talks about his death besides the main character.
Honestly, my issue was with the tired tropes of 'the dad is super evilly abusive' & 'haha! We fooled you TWICE!' But this is honestly a very valid point too. It would've been such a better movie if it HAD been the mom you ended up stealing her kid & getting the dad sent to prison, as it would've been a twist on a tired trope, & WE COULD HAVE ACTUALLY MANAGED TO GUESS IT! Not setting up twists so that the audience has no way to figure them out isn't good storytelling, you're just mad that your audience is smart!
Can we appreciate how Siri played a huge part in this movie?! Like she saved June’s life, honestly! 😮
I was actually hoping Javi would save the day and call the US embassy to get Agent Park moving. But June saved herself which works too haha
Javi, the man. And through all those twists and turns, the surprise ending, it all comes down to a happy ending for them. Bravo
the mom said that Havi added her to chat so who knows maybe they will get together because Grace is a good mom and Javi is a nice person. Javi also said that June reminds him of his son. He treats her like a daughter
Regarding why Daddy went to all the needless trouble getting June when he does and snatching his wife; I'd just chalk it up to wanting revenge on his wife.
I just watched a true crime documentary about a man who killed his twin daughters, then himself, because his wife was leaving him; he was abusive too. So he punished his soon-to-be ex by killing their daughters and killed himself to escape punishment, the coward.
Omg I heard about that case, sometimes people can be so selfish and filled with revenge!! Smh.
Javi is the best part of this movie by far. I need a spin-off of him and his son become PI’s and busting drug rings in Columbia.
This movie was surprisingly decent for a horror movie spinoff/sequel/successor

Javi was the best, no questions, plenty of help and gave good advice ❤️
I can see the dad going after the mom still to because for abusers it is all about control and for him just hurting her by kidnapping June would never be good enough.
25:46 I think what the Dad originally planned was to get the Mom out of the way first, orchestrate the kidnapping in Colombia with Kevin and dupe Mom, waited until the search was over while monitoring June (and probably kill Mom?), then he would proceed to come back to June's life. But as the story progressed he realized the plan was ruined and he was about to be found out, so in panic he just kidnapped June.
He had the entirety of the trip to just show up and introduce himself to his daughter though, before the search even started. He could have had Kevin distract Grace while he got acquainted with June, and then play the victim when she returned and pretend she set him up to get rid of him and have June to herself. Dude was watching her so he knew she had a strained relationship with her mother, and that he could probably manipulate her. It doesn't make sense for him to wait that long tbh. Also dumb to drive them to the airport, he could have easily been recognized by the mom and she could have called for help. Honestly the more I think about it, the less sense this movie makes.
And if you notice, there is a message from grace to kevin for thanking him for fixing june's laptop, which is the explanation as to how june's dad was able to monitor all of june's internet activity, it was kevin who did it by order from june's dad.
Sorry for bad english.
I just loved that there were ppl I recognized in this movie, I'm a big fan of Nia & Storm
hoping to see more like this w/ proper character development, its sorely lacking nowadays
Big mistake in this movie, evidence gained illegally is only unusable by the police if it's the police themselves that get it illegally.
Facts!
Yeah I thought that was the case!
yeah but after June let's them know the police where the information is, the police can log in to Kevin or the mom's account and get the information illegally themselves
they just didn't show that part is all
@@naylisyazwina6836 What you’re missing is… she can give them the information herself
I love these types of films. I’m glad this genre came to be !
Thanks for all the work you put into these!
I enjoyed this movie a lot and the storytelling was very effective and captivating. The structural choice of showing everything through desktop/phone never felt distracting, it just really helpt me feel engaged and like I was right there. The plot twists were well done and had my at the edge of my seat. There were some issues for me regarding pacing and some plotholes
Are these going to become the new found footage movie?
I don't think so, we had the unfriended movies and then basically nothing afterwards. Especially since this is even more limited than found footage as a story engine. Would work better in a video game though, like Simulacra or HypnOS
Naw, they really aren't good enough to be the new thing

I thought the dad was planning on killing the mom and making it look like she either was kidnapped/killed in another country or she abandoned the daughter. Then he would come in and get custody of the daughter without a stitch and look like the good guy from the start. But due to the daughter intervening with the case and almost figuring it out he had to improvise. It was the daughter’s intervention that lead to his downfall. Anyway, those were my thoughts (I watch way too much Law&Order SVU if you can’t tell! Lol 😂)

Why your disability stop you from watching horror movies???
@im.frankk My form of OSDD and anxiety cause me to endure high levels of stress when engaging in things that cause tension to where I can not simply sit and enjoy the medium. It happens in books and gaming, too, when it gets a bit to visceral in imagery. It's been like that since I was a kid, and never really went away. The Horror genre is full of tension and since my brain can't process it correctly, I find it difficult to enjoy.
