...2020 and I am still not over Matthew's death.
i don't think i can ever get over it
Or Sybils... D';
Same 😭 and I doubt I ever will be
Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) was so important and pivotal, his loss changed the trajectory of the show -- his impact was so great. Yes, even in 2020 -- 8 years later and it still affects me more than I'd ever realize.
L̶a̶d̶y̶ Fox Ŵøłfæ Sybil’s death was tragic but they spent a whole episode on her and events that pointed to her death if that made sense. No one saw Matthews coming. Mary, Matthew and there newborn son are together thinking that they are going to live happily ever after but a few minutes after that Matthew dies in a car crash. I screamed at the tv and wanted to throw it out of the window. My stress levels were like 📈📈📈📈📈📈
And my heart skipped a beat. It was a lot more tragic. Then fast forward to 6 months you see Mary depressed and sad
“Well now I’ve seen everything”.-Classic Dowager
One of the most beautiful Downton moments ever. My heart swells and my eyes fill with tears when Matthew walks in, locks eyes with Mary, and joins in the singing!
Err, what about when William ( who everyone also thought dead) walks in and he and Daisy share a look, too?
Alexander Jones because Daisy never really was in love with William. She never really saw him as more than a friend. In fact, she was pressured down the aisle with him right before he died. It’s evident through the series that his love for her is unrequited.
@NazgulLord I agree!! It has to be one of my favourite Matthew and Mary moments ever ❤️
Stephanie Deeb she loved him after. She didn’t have enough time to return his feelings. She felt guilt for letting him on. But at the end she pulled through and wanted to stay with him even when he was dead. And after she confided with Williams father and he didn’t mind that she went in one foot out the door but that mattered was that William was very happy with her. Daisy regretted not being able to make him happy but he assured her that she did even if the love wasn’t two sided. The relationship was whole from the perspective of two people who cared for each other. You can be in a relationship without being madly in love. But in love with each other in platonic sense
The way that The Dowager looks at Robert when he’s singing makes me snort over and over again
Michelle Dockery was really singing. She has a nice voice.
And Dan's voice is so sweet!! He really shows his singing talent when he sings Evermore in Beauty & the Beast -- not the embellished version for the movie, but in his own gorgeous voice!!
She's just so elegant even in real life lol
I love how Brandson's only looking at Sybil. One of the best love storys written, so subtle and yet powerful.
Omfl Thank you for pointing that out I never noticed 😂
I got the feeling he loved her more than she loved him tbh
@@mystique592 can’t help but agree. she deserved a guy who respected her more and who didn’t act like giving up everything she knew was no big deal. he took her for granted and I could never understand why anyone adored them. I think there’s something about the class difference that reels people in when it comes to love stories.
Dan Stevens really brought the character of Matthew to life. While it’s a shame that he left the show 3 seasons early, his career post Downton has been quite interesting!
He is thriving, and his hilarious yet poignant turn in Eurosong is getting rave reviews. Can't wait for his big movie this year coming out at Christmastime, "Blithe Spirit" with Judi Dench.
I forgot how beautiful this scene was. Michelle Dockery is beautiful and Dan Stevens singing is gorgeous. Beautiful couple. Mary did truly love him
My heart literally skipped a beat when Matthew and William walked in!! Absolutely loved it!!
Whilst Matthew was an important character, everyone seems to have forgotten William! They were BOTH missing presumed dead, after all! (I know William was a servant and Matthew an aristocrat, but as the Dowager herself once said 'An aristocrat without servants is as much use to the county as a glass hammer.') 😂😂😂
William was well thought of. You see Mrs. Patmore nod at him with pride. And as Matthew walks down the aisle towards Mary look in the background-- Lord Grantham claps William on the shoulder. He wasn't forgotten.
@@Hal09i yes. And also, it's not about aristocracy vs servant. Matthew was family, like a son to Lord Grantham. Of course he would feel a bit more strongly about his return.
Nobody ever forgot William -- but Matthew WAS so central to the story of downton Abbey. His role was the lead romantic male role. William's story with Daisy was sweet but so sad. But Matthew's loss changed the trajectory of the entire show over the last 3 seasons.
@@laurenstich1049 honestly I feel they should have just ended with Mary and Matthew with George before he died. Like don't get me wrong, the other three seasons were good enough lol but like don't try to give people a heart attack. When I saw Matthew dead I felt like I was gasping for air and my heart skipped a beat. My stress levels were like 📶
I love the look he exchanged with Daisy. She also felt it when he was hurt. She loved him more than she admitted to herself
Its kinda heartbreaking how badly Robert and Cora think of Edith.
Matthew and Mary where so sweet together
True but I feel if it was Edith who was going through it and Mary told her they would say the same. It was a very cruel feud at the start of the show on both sides.
Do you realise it's a story?
It's understandable though, they would have expected it of both Edith and Mary to one another, this fued has been going on a long time in their storyline.
@@katerh3198 Of course, but to millions, it is such a magnificent story that people can relate. Julian Fellows' screenwriting was nothing short of brilliant, and when you get a great script and great actors -- plus a gorgeous musical score by Alan Lunn -- well, it's called cinematic magic. There's a reason why Downton Abbey resonated with millions of people.....
@Aquarius Lovegood she does
The "My dear boy. My very dear boy." makes me cry everytime 😭😭
Me too... 😊
This is one of the many reasons that Season 2 of Downton Abbey has always been my favorite.
Agree 1000%. Season -- the best.
Another masterpiece Mary and Matthew moment created by Jullian Fellowes. This , the train station, the dance , the proposal - fabulous season 2 scenes - the moment Mary sees Matthew for the 1st time in 2 years, - the whole series truly revolves around them at its core. We could have enjoyed much more than 3 seasons
Helen Hern -- Agree 1000%.
This is a moment where there is love between Mary and Matthew that can not be denied. Mary is so distraught about Matthew missing. I keep saying this over and over again but the war makes her see how much she truly loves him. When she sees Matthew and he picks up the song he's singing it right to Mary. Her smile is genuinely towards him.
I wish Dan Stevens had stayed on
@@MsDoctorWhoFan1 Watch soap operas for a living??
@@MsDoctorWhoFan1 -- There isn't a person that ever watched Downton Abbey who didn't want him to live and remain on the show till the end. And better story lines had NOTHING to do with his decision. He loved being a part of the show and is grateful he ever got the opportunity as it has opened doors that would never have been opened without it. BUT -- he is a very creative guy and has always like to broaden his horizons, seeking ways to improve his craft and challenging himself by doing diverse roles. He is an extremely intelligent and thoughtful man who is enjoying his life. Family is #1, and he feels very fortunate to have a career that meets his great passion.
The dowager's face when she realizes that Robert, too, is singing😳...😅😅
I got choked up and so happy when Matthew and William walk in and everyone stops singing but when Matthew walks up the aisle singing, that got me. Bravo to the director or whoever. Wonderful moment!
I don't know if you'll even see this, but I would love the clip of Mary praying for Matthew's safety. Such a sweet moment.
*1:30** - **2:30** - **2:34** The most VIOLET thing ive seen today ! 😂😅*

"Now, I have seen everything" -the dowager
😆😂😂
The Dowager is hilarious. The look on her face and her mannerisms as she looks around at everyone signing along with Mary. Too funny. 😂😂 .... PEACE to ALL.
The way Michelle Dockery uses her eyes to express her feelings reminds me of how Al Pacino did the same in the God Father saga. She's a brilliant actress.
I never noticed before Tom looking at Sybil when the camera pans to them
I mean, objectively, if you explained the scene to someone and how i would play out, most would give side eye and think it's a bit too cheesy and sweet to be taken seriously.
But the acting is so great, and the characters so well defined, damned if I don't choke up every time
Exactly!...I feel the same way. The scene borders on pure corn ball as Dan Stevens walks down the aisle in uniform signing...but damned if it doesn't hold together and work. A brilliant scene, poignant and one of my favorites from the series.
Whenever I watch a scene of them I have their whole story in my head. From 1x01 all the way to the graveyard scene in 6x08. I think about their development, everything they've been through, how they were each other's one true love and of course their end. During scenes like this I get especially emotional. They have so many insanely beautiful scenes that I can hardly choose a favorite but this one's very far up on that list. Also their theme, I can't describe what it does to me 😭❤️
Thank you ShadyVanillaCake -- you are the FIRST person to mention the distinctive theme whenever Matthew and Mary are together in a scene -- it's the most beautiful background music of the entire series. Tender, haunting, mesmerizing.
Coming back to watch these after I've finished both the show and movie, and I forgot how much I missed Matthew.
How can anyone ever forget Matthew. He was such a force -- even after he was gone, his presence was always palpable. Dan Stevens was nothing short of brilliant.
If i were mary i would be ugly crying whilst trying to finish the song because i was ugly crying as matthew continued the song
OnionButtons lol if it makes you feel better I was ugly crying too earlier in the episode and when Matthew came back on screen I was so shocked and happy I made an awkward noise that sounded like a dying seal. 😂
I know I was just crying. My mother was just staring at me the whole time. I was sobbing like a laugh cry
THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU. My favorite scene. Tendrils. Tender hearts helping each other to go on. How much the great Julian Fellowes knows about living by the tender heart. Julian Fellowes. "When comes such another?"
Watching this scene again and it makes me get emotional. You can tell how much she truly loves him and I love how sweetly she smiles at him.
One of my favourite scenes in the whole show ♥️
There are lots of great moments but This had to be one of the best scenes in the whole series
*Wish youll upload that scene where Mary and Violet hosted a great party in Downton to show Martha that its(Downton) worth saving*
Every time I see this scene from Downton Abbey I get choked up and teary eyed. This reminds me of father and my grandparents.
I love how they just assume Edith is trying to cause problems
I've listened to be dozens of versions of this song and this still the best by far.
Awwww, I loved this part.
2:35 that moment just makes my heart swell. I had tears in my eyes the first time I watched it. They were such an amazing couple. Why did they have to kill him off😢
Because Hollywood came calling and sometimes an offer doesn’t come back. He was looking towards what would be the best for his future as an actor.
I have a lump in my throat every time I see this scene.
This scene always brings a tear to my eye. Always.
One of the most beautiful scenes in the best TV series ever.
Beautiful
I haven't really seen the show, but this was a really sweet scene! ❤
Best Downton abby ❤❤❤
theatrical but it made me damn emotional
You may think this scene is cheesy but I must inform you I cried like a little bitch the first time I watched it
I was hoping Matthew and William would walk in while Mary was singing. I was right. I'm such a Sob with this sort of stuff...I think I played it a few times. lol.......Loved it. Granny makes me laugh. lol. Mary you better tell him how you feel. Ugh. Love this show.
Love it!
I am still in tears after watching this for the nth time 😢😢😢
therapy: expensive
mary and matthew singing together plus the dowager countess looking at the men like this 🤨: free
favorite scene 😍
Que hermoso me emocioné mucho.
Nos deja una hermosa reflexión que jamás hay que perder las esperanzas.❤️
The best scene. Matthew sings with Mary.aaaaàh.
Yes!! I just love that scene!
Welcome back......
I always cry on this scene
My favourite scene also.
my fav scene
MARVELOUS ACTRESSES AND ACTORS ❤ LOVE IT
...2021 and I am still not over Matthew's death.
Matthew's theme song 😭😭
I just realised something. Suppose the actors of Matthew and William didn’t leave. Consider this possible ending: Robert, somehow, dies, and Matthew becomes Earl of Grantham. Matthew and William echo the relationship between Robert and Bates in the 2nd Boer War quite a lot don’t you think? William could have risen to become valet to Matthew. I feel William is very much a Bates junior in terms of his morals and personality. Thomas might still become butler of course.
Dan Stevens......the most beautiful man on the planet.
Reminds me of Anne and Gilbert in continuing story
Now I've seen everything lol
Happy day king Matthew :)🧐🐊
What's the title of this enchanting song ? .... does anyone know ? : )
I love William, but I just keep it to myself
Wait... how did they get that mirror shot at 0:58? It's looks dead on.
Yeah nice voice Michelle dockery
When this Ghastly war is over I am going to buy a car my darling Mary and drive the beautiful roads close to Downton!
For Thomas it’d be if you were the only boy in the world and I were the other boy 😏
Matthew looks so skinny here haha. Such a cheesy but beautiful scene
I'm sure the war did all that. But he does look great!
ok
And Matthew too
Because Dan Stevens he in t
Beauty and the beast
Como se llama la cancion
"If you were the only girl (in the world)"
Why Matthew is so slim in this scene
He'd been at war. They probably didn't get 3 meals a day when in battle.
@@rocketmom60 Those minor details are so rare for any TV show or film to pull off! Downton is amazing
His weight fluctuated during his 3 seasons at Downton Abbey. But when he left, he lost about 40-50 lbs and has kept it off since 2013. While still a ridiculously gorgeous human being, he is just too skinny now.
Awfully corny and cheesy - but somehow they make it work.
WHAT A DIFFERENT TIME....WOMEN WERE MORE RESERVED. NOW THEY SEE THEIR LOVED ONE ....RUN....THEN STADDLE THEM. OH BOY
