Metallica Live in Seattle '89 has always been one of my favorites. From a studio perspective, Gojira's live performance of "Global Warming" is chilling and super emotional. Korn's Woodstock 1999 performance is quite legendary. Though my personal favorite probably is Dir en Grey's famous "ANDROGYNOUS a view of the acro" performance. All the band members are on full display, they play the best versions of all their biggest songs, and Kyo's vocals are probably at their peak. His ability not only to go higher and lower than almost anyone and fluently switch between them never fails to amaze me, and he has control of the crowd like Freddie Mercury in songs like "Hageshisa to, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami." (What a name!) Their performance of Vinushka is one of the greatest live recordings ever and is THE place to start with this band. Whenever I show someone Dir en Grey, I always start with Vinushka Live ANDROGYNOUS a view of the acro

@@VARVIS_ their style varies a lot throughout their different albums as they’ve been around for decades so be sure to listen to some stuff from different albums if you don’t initially like them. They don’t have tons of sick riffs but they have great counterpoint with the different instruments in a lot of their softer sections/songs.
Tousei, Vinushka, Zakuro, and Ranunculus all have some great live performances on CZcams. Hope you like them nearly as much as me and this guy do haha.

Metallica Live at Monsters of Rock 1991
Metallica Live Shit: Binge and Purge
Megadeth live at Hammersmith Odeon 1992

    Cannibal Corpse Live Cannibalism 2000

There's multiple examples of Gojira that I'd put in a list like this. Their live show recordings The Link Alive, The Flesh Alive, Hellfest 2013 set, Live at Red Rocks. Super amazing live performances always by that band.
Sepultura live in 1991 Barcelona is also INSANE. Inhuman levels of speed and energy in their playing from start to finish.
Aftermath performed by Strapping Young Lad at Download 2006. That whole set actually. Devin Townsend's voice is from another universe 😂.
You should definitely make part 2 of this kind of video some day. So many gems on CZcams. I go back to watch Death in 1998 a ton🤘

For me, there are 3 that truly come to mind
    Cryptopsy Live in Montreal 1996
Strapping Young Lad at Download Festival in 2006
Anaal Nathrakh at Roskilde in 2013
Those shows are just wild to even watch, with the only major difference between Cryptopsy and the other 2 is that I saw Cryptopsy in 2023, but watching those shows, they are all just insane, especially the Anaal Nathrakh show. I mean, with Anaal Nathrakh, they played In The Constellation, Forging Towards The Sunset, etc. Strapping Young Lad at Download, all of their albums were out, and they closed it off with In The Rainy Season, which has one of the greatest breakdowns ever. Cryptopsy in 1996... I mean, do I have to explain myself? It's Lord Worm era Cryptopsy, let alone the band in their prime.

I've seen them live on the Parallax II tour, absolutely amazing set. Every song was note for note perfect to the album. Gojira - Bordeaux (2009), from the The Flesh Alive DVD - this was Gojira at their peak. the show itself is really beautifully and artistically shot. and um Joe looks so cool with long hair.
Metallica - Toronto (1986) - it's their fastest concert ever. the energy in the room is just nuts.
Iron Maiden - Beast Over Hammersmith (1982) - Bruce Dickinson brings something special to Maiden in these early years.
Pantera - Monsters of Rock in Moscow (1991) - it's a shorter set, like 20 minutes as they were opening for AC/DC and Metallica. but it's amazing seeing that sea of people flocking to the first metal show after the fall of the Iron Curtain. CFH-era Pantera was great.

I love the Nightwish concert from 2013 at Wacken. I'm not a massive fan of them, I like a few of their songs, but the whole live show makes me come back to it probably once a year. Well worth a watch.

Live by fire I by Enforcer is absolutely peak. A relatively short set packed with bangers, amazing energy and crowd interaction and the performance itself is just out of this world. At the start of the concert, just how perfectly they transition from Bells of hades to Death rides this night is the stuff of legends, I wholeheartedly recommend checking it out if you haven't already.

I can't stress enough how good kanonenfieber are live. Ive seen them both times they have come to my country but the first one was the best because it was in a tiny basement venue with no special effects, no smoke machine, flamethrowers ect. Also the fact that noise (vocalist and records/produces everything for studio releases) doesnt make the other members play the part like he does makes it very fun to watch because you can tell theyre having a good time. Only other bands Ive seen with the same level of stage presence has been Batushka (the real one) and Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult.

For me, i've kept coming back to Sepultura's under siege live in Barcelona show for almost 20 years and it still blows me away. The band was on fire playing an amazing setlist and the production is great as well. Igor's snare sounds like a 50cal rifle shot each time. A couple other ones are Bloodbath during Wacken 2005. Michael's best sounding vocals ever IMO and Nile live in St. Petersburg 2012. A bootleg recording, but sadly the best available sound wise from this era.

  • @broken-machine9271

Got 5 really good ones i can think of rn.
Sleep - At Southwest Terror Fest 2015.
Melvins & Big Business performing Houdini in 2013.
    Gorguts - San Francisco 1998.
Celestial (isis), at the LA Celebration of the Life & Art of Caleb Scofield show in 2018.
Om - Live At Amoeba Records 2007.
The Sleep set is probably one of the best looking and sounding videos i've seen of them live. Its also (to my knowledge) one of the only videos of one of their shows starting and ending with dopesmoker.
The Melvins show was done during a time where their lineup had two drummers and four singers. Making a already amazing album sound absolutely massive. Its also super cool to watch Dale and Coady be perfectly in sync with eachother the enitre set.
The Gorguts set is absolutely immaculate being mostly songs from their (at the time) most recent album: Obscura. The footage is pretty good for the time and the sound quality is even better. Its just overall awesome to me to be able to see the Obscura era line up play these absolutely mind bending songs live.
Celestial was a one time name for Post Metal pioneers Isis. And the show was a memoral for the late Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Old Man Glood, Zozobra). All the bands that played were close freinds with Caleb, making the show that much more powerful. Celestial/Isis's set was amazing consisting of songs from the albums Panopticon, Oceanic, and Celestial. A overall amazing show.
Om's Amoeba Records show is one of the very few videos there are from this era of Om. its hands down one of the most visually heavy shows i've ever seen, Al Cisneros, (who also plays bass and sings in Sleep) at this show has a rig that includes:
    A DOD Overdrive 250.
    Boss ds1 Distortion.
Three Custom Electric Amp 180 Watt amps, one as a normal amp, and Two as power amps.
    Two 4x12 Cabs.
    A 2x15 Cab.
And two absolutely gigantic 4x15 cabs that make up a literall wall of sound.
This show just based off of looks was already one of my favorites, but once i found out about the almost 30 minute long version of "At Giza", i just about lost my shit lol.
I'd add more shows but i dont want to turn this comment that no one will see into a whole ass history lesson.
