ENGLISH:
Here you might see in 6:20 min. how appr. 750 pieces of metal and wood could be combined to a beautiful aircraft model. The kit from Artesania Latina (► * amzn.to/2VBSzQm) in the scale 1:16 is a so called multimedia kit of wood and metal and is relatively easy to build and well guided. It includes step-by-step instructions with video tutorials and more than 600 photos for a simpler and more pleasant assembly. I tried to let the pieces act for theirselves and show how to build an aircraft...

I made some mistakes during the detailing process - please write a comment, when you picture them ;-) In addition: I missed the opportunity to spend more time in detailing with fuel pipes and cables - it's just building out of box...
DEUTSCH:

so, not only did you want to make a movie about building the difficult Dr1 model, but you decided to make it 10 times harder by animating the process! You are a magician! Seriously great!
Thanks 😊
I’ve never been so sad to see a video end. Amazing model, an even more amazing presentation.
You can play it with 25% speed 🐌
I'm pleased to hear 😊
THIS IS THE FINEST PIECE OF STOP MOTION ANIMATION I HAVE SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!! Beautiful build, amazing video, even shifts in focal points. This deserves an Academy Award for best short subject!!!! Ray Harryhausen, George Pal, Tim Burton have nothing on you. I'm so impressed by your incredible skills.
Oh, wow, your words are overwhelming, puh 😅 thank you...
And well deserved I might add. I'm such a big fan of your work in all its many facets. Bravo.
So it really is stop motion?
I thought so at first, but seeing how perfect it is I went "Nah! It has to be computer animated or something".
WOW! That's really an amazing performance!
Btw! "Dance Macabre" is the perfect choice of music for this!
I agree. I'm a big fan of Wes Anderson, but this is on another level. Aside from the model building itself, the stop-motion work you did is simply awe inspiring artwork! It's amazing what human beings are capable of, and you have left this jet jock with his jaw on the floor!! 👍 👍
Thank you very much 😊
Me English is not very good, but I believe the correct expression for this would be: HOLY SHIT!
Seems to be a suitable expression 😊 - thank you
Yeah that’s a pretty good translation
Way to much time on my hands!
You are correct: HOLY SHITBALLS BATMAN!
Holy Shit Balls ...
So many have commented on the build, but I want to comment on your choice of music. It's refreshing to see a great video like this without the cheesy techno crap sound track so many other videos have. Thank you.
Love the music. Big fan of Arena-games (really small games from one guy in Finland) and latest www-version has the same music. Fits well to this video!
I always mute the music on all videos. Too distracting. Without sound, good video.
I always try to match the rhythm to the animation and paint mood color with the type of music...
This was so beautiful. I am shedding a tear of appreciation.
Thank you 😊
That "lassoing" rope sequence starting at 52 seconds is a gem in and of itself. The Maestro can attend the rodeo and be at ease.
Bravo! Truly special and outstanding work on both the models and the video. One of the jewels of CZcams.
Oh, thank you very much 😊
The Steven Spielberg of modeling. Incredible!
Il y a pas d' autres mots que de dire: " Magnifique "! Merci pour cette vidéo génialissime...
Behold, The one and only, TOMs Modelling in Motion.
Fantastic build and all the time spent on the stop motion, must have taken ages! Thank you for sharing it!
The filming is probably more of a challenge than the construction of the plane! And the work on the plane is very well sorted. Craftsmanship.
Thanks - possibly right 😊
You again! Unbelievable skill, dexterity and taste in music.
Amazing and well-done film! I've flown 220 different m/m of airplanes, including 14 biplanes - got to sit in a DR-1 at an airshow; never got to fly one. The pilot said they were good fliers but squirrely during landing. Seeing the construction was truly amazing, considering it was developed 14 years after the Wright Brothers first flew a powered aircraft. Also makes you think about flying into combat in one. Well done, sir!
Thank you very much for your compliment and your story.
This is amazing you are an model and videoartist!
Thanks for your kind words 😊
The patience and dedication to detail is simply unbelievable..GRATZ..very very nice
Wow, just WOW!
Excellent job on the video and great choice of music!
Thank you for posting this.
I'm off to check out your other videos 🙂
You sir should submit your stop motion film for an award...…..would be well deserved for your efforts imo. Thanks for sharing not only your incredible modeling skills but the filmork and time you put into it!!
Absolutely fantastic work. Not just building an incredible model but animating the whole process. You, sir, are a true craftsman.
Thank you 😊
A genius modeler and video maker. True art in every frame. This is what museums should exhibit.
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Truly a piece of art. The stop motion made it perfect. But nothing is perfect. But this, this is as close as you can get. Very well done.
Thanks 😊
Somehow, Tom, you always find a way to take your modelling and presentation to the next level. Wonderful stuff.
Thanks, I'm glad you like my way of testing different kind of modelling...
I have allready bookmarked your website. One day I will definitely will jump in to one of your wonderful models!
Cool 👍
Absolutely amazing video. I just finished building the same model but yours blows mine away by far. Great work.
Incredible! This video was in my feed, it is not what I would normally watch but I started watching and it's MESMERISING!!
And the music, the film- all of it was utterly delightful! Thank you!!!
I'm pleased to hear you like it 😊 you're welcome
Wirklich ausgezeichnet!
Hervorragende Arbeit!!!!
Absolutely brilliant from conception to execution - model and video both!
I remember when I was a kid my older brother built one of those scale models of the Folker DR. 1 out of balsa wood. I would stand at his door after school and chat with him as he methodically progressed on the model. I remember him even making the wing and fuselage out of balsa covered in special paper coated with dope to make it stretch and be smooth. He painted it red and added the decals and it was finally done. It was perfect. It was a piece of art. I oohed and ahhed. And right at that very moment, he threw it into the wall and smashed it and then picked it up and smashed it again several more times. And then he stomped on it. I was horrified. He eventually became a pilot and owned his own plane, a Mooney. He also retired from the Air Force after serving as a navigator and weapons navigator aboard a B-52. Unfortunately, I don't think that dude was ever fully sane.
Y
Yes, a long time since I have heard the word dope. As a boy I read everything i could get hands on WW1 air warfare, fact or fiction.
You Mr deserve so applause *Applause* this is absolute master work ! well done
That was so much fun. I almost bought one of those about twenty years ago (I wanted the DR1 and the Camel). Talked myself out of it because of the cost and lack of space. I smiled throughout this and am thinking about it again.
Don't stop dreaming. I have the same one, especially after meeting a guy who not only owns one full scale but can build me one as well.
Monumental as always! Thank you so much for this channel!
I'm glad you like it 😊
Fantastic, inspiring work! Thank you for sharing this.
Boah, I'm extremely impressed! This looks like hundrets of hours of work... Thank you!
As a lover of WW1 aviation and the DR1 in particular I’m beyond impressed.. my wife got me this for Xmas 5is year and I can’t wait.. I came here from your hellcat video.. your beyond talented Tom
I'm pleased to hear you like my little experiments 😊
Beautiful work and another fantastic video. I’ll never understand how you do the weaving of the threads through the model the way you do. Incredible.
Amazing detail, that took some time! Thank you.
Totally mesmerising !
I didn’t know where to look. The stop film photography was amazing to the point one almost missed out appreciating just how good your construction and painting is. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share with us.
I'm very pleased you like my sort of film making.
Tom Grigat most definitely! You definitely have a gift in both areas.
Your work is just incredible.
Very kind of you, thanks.
What inspires someone to do this is either: extreme artistic devotion, time has no limits, sheer madness or all three... congratulations!
For me it's artistic devotion and madness. 🤪
Brilliant model and superbly filmed. Thank you for sharing your work.
thanks, you're welcome 😊
Amazing model and presentation should win an award for stop- go animation. Incredible modelling skills👍👍👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much 😊
Absolutely amazing. Thanks for such an incredible treat.
You're welcome 😊
Thanks for uploading, very enjoyable to watch and awesome we could be part of the journey to put this little gem together!!. One can appreciate that during WW1 the assembly of these planes was as high tech a business as aerospace is now. I take my hat off to Anthony Fokker and other pioneering manufacturers to undertake such a complex business.
Yes, you're right - those pioneers did a great job...
Amazing details and great paint work, thank you for sharing!
Thanks, you're welcome 😊
Simply stunning; having found your site last week, just saw this offering. W-O-W, period-wonderful music, also! Thank you sir!! The 44 unlikers probably found this to be too technical, or too quick, or both. Sad to be them!! Ausgezeichnet, und so weiter! Vielen Dank.
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Oh I want to skin it so badly. Properly done, seeing all the ribs and such influencing the texture of the doped linen. If I get this I’d have to follow through and do just that. Awesome video. Thank you!
I am simply blown away with the genius on so many levels of this project. Museums should line up to get their hands on your models, sir.
Thanks a lot
I am without words, the presentation with stop motion is fantastic and the quality of the work is magnificent
I'm very pleased to hear 😊
Absolute stunning animation and my favourite model so far!
I'm pleased to hear 😊
Amazing stop motion, editing , and modelling .... An epic project. I can't imagine the time it took.
Thank you - it took me appr 4 month...
Wao..!!
Isnt enough work involved just to build the actual model? But taking pictures of every part to create the animation..!?
This is alien technology !
and not to mention the planning and the choreography and the organizing of the building stages..!Man..this is building at GODs level...!!! Amazing stuff..
Elegant work and excellent video editing!
Thank you 😊
All-round STUNNING. So well done, sir.
Thanks a lot 😊
Jaw-dropping, Visual poetry! Impressed beyond words... 👍🏻👏🏻😃
Hats off to your modeling skills, and your video production skills as well. Beautiful.
Thank you very much 😊
Amazing! Thank you for the wonderful video.
I've seen flying replicas of the Dr I at some airshows. I was really surprised to see it can fly sideways too. Must have surprised many an Allied pilot. I'm told it's a real joy to fly this aircraft for real. Go Josef Jacobs!
Tom, what can one say, other than absolutely fantastic brilliant out of this world. The your skills are phenomenal.
All the best.
Thanks a lot 😊
Fantastic Video ..Great looking build
Incredible. Je vais de découverte en découverte. Époustouflant. Quel talent.
Wonderful. Entertaining and informative. I'm building a DR1 in 33% . I've learnt more about constructing the model watching this amazing video than any other media. Very many thanks again. You have me hooked!
I'm pleased to hear 😊 thanks for your kind words
Once again Tom you pull the rabbit out of the magician’s hat! A beautiful model and a beautifully crafted film. A work of art and creativity at it’s finest.
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Beautiful job,congratulations again Tom.
Danke.
Thanks, you're welcome 😊
Tom youre an absolute mad man.. This was incredible! Definetly earned a sub.. Keep up the great work!
Wow what a beautiful model it gives you a really good idea of the technology and the way planes were built 1914-1918
Fascinating to watch you very enjoyable presentation Tom. I’m a Fan
I'm pleased to hear 😊
Wow!! Stunning work and as always superb video editing, you are the god of modelling
Thanks for the kind words - too much honor 😊
I could hardly even build this, and you animated it? Good job dude
Tom absolutely awesome work. Such a great tribute to the Baron. I was looking at his real seat not long ago in the Australian War Memorial!
Thank you 😊 I wish I had the chance to visit it on my own...
Top quality video presentation of an amazingly skilled build. Congrats, sir!
Thanks 😊
This is so complex, I don’t think I could make it, let alone in stop motion!! Bravo sir, bravo
Thanks 😊
Stop motion with modeling simultaneously. You are most patient person ever.
Thanks a lot 😊
Music selection for this vid was superb!
Man only for the making of the motion I would call you "Master Modeller"! Amazing build! :D
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Astonishing animation of a wonderful flying machine. Thanks for such a delight.
I'm happy you like it 😊
I also have to use the word "BRILLIANT"! I certainly admire your building skills, but am absolutely taken by your video creativity. Thanks so much.
I'm pleased to hear 😊
Outstanding workmanship, brilliant animation. Thankyou
Thanks, you're welcome 😊
This kit scares me, what a great build Tom.
you have the very best set of videos on scale modelling..stunning work dear sir!!!
I'm pleased you like it 😊
Another perfect made build. I´m speechless.
Wow. That's amazing - thank you for sharing!
You're welcome - I'm glad you like it 😊
My God ! This vvas the most detailed model I've ever seen & all the extra time you took to animate it really makes it stand head & shoulders above the vast majority of other model builds . I'm so glad you did not put a skin on the model , so all the beautifull detailing can be seen . TYVM for posting & I look forvvard to seeing more of your builds .
Thanks a lot - but I am thinking about building the camel from Artesania Latina with a skin... 🤔
I think that as you've done such a brilliant documentation of your builds that it shouldn't matter if they get a skin or not, I also realised that the skin vvould be transleucent enough to see all the interior detail . In the end vvhat is important is vvhat you'd like to do vvith the models . I vvas & still am amazed @ the level of detail this kit had & the beautiful vvay you animated its assembly . I vvish you many years of creating more scale masterpieces & my thanks that you've shared them
My goodness all that threading of the wires must have drove you insane..lol beautifully done !
Your models should be in a museum.
At first I believed it was a computer simulation (btw, it would be an amazing one anyway).
Only at the end I realized it is a stop motion!
Astounding!
I'm pleased to hear 😊
I'm amazed your able to build these beautiful models AND do it while filming stop motion sequences!
These are different steps. Only the composing let it look like a constant process. I move the different parts step by step, take pictures and stop the photographing when it comes to the particular assembling. Then I mark the positions of the components in front of the camera, take them away and glue parts together and/or do a painting. After the procedure is fixed or dried I place it in front of the camera again and proceed making pictures...
Great project! But how effortless was the climb of the real thing, at the end there. No wonder they couldn't catch him. It was a field gunner who brought down the Red Baron in the end.
Your already amazing skills improve with every and each building, Maestro.
I'm glad it appears like an improvement 😊 I always try to push a bit when it comes to a new experiment. Thanks...
This is absolutely amazing!
A masterpiece! Bravo maestro 👏👏👏
Superb! Both the model, and the animation!
Thanks 😊
Fantastic! Once more another pertinent, well made and historical video. And I thought who I made good naval battle ship models...
Holy Smoke,
I have built Dr.1 (strip down series) from Eduard, but what you have done is truly amazing.Built, video, music.I take my hat off.Probably the best model I have ever seen in my life.Awesome.
Oh, thank you - have you seen my other clips?
Amazing model, modeling and video. State of art!
Thank you
Masterful modeling and brilliant videography.
Thanks 😊
