🇺🇦, however much I support Ukraine i fear if Russia are losing men that is not just unsustainable for Russia; even if Ukrainen losses are 3-1 which is doubtful probably 2 - 2.4 it’s also unsustainable for Ukraine. To our shame i really don’t believe the west is doing enough to support Ukraine by this i mean were imposing sanctions but half heartedly were are our sanctions on the Middle East, India , China etc we should be drawing a line and imposing on any country breaching sanctions; denied banking, funds frozen , no visa’s, with exemption licenses awarded to businesses that dramatically increase our cost of living. I think we’re all in agreement that appeasement doesn’t work and see Ukraine’s position equal to WWII and Germany’s expansion into Czechoslovakia knowing what we know now are we really going to wait until Poland is invaded again, when Poland has the largest military expansion in Europe it’s glaring obvious to Poland its going to cost their economy and hardship on standards of living will be secondary factors for Poland. Yet were happily trading carrying on as if nothing is happening with many countries which are trading with Russia milking opportunities with Russia’s imposed sanctions and we do nothing but ask politely don’t do it. If we impose a bit more stick say no visa’s to any Middle Eastern country, South American countries until they freeze Russian banks and deny Russian visas. Then we start asking the truly global coalition to dump 0.5%gdp into Ukraine those that don’t are frozen out of contracts issued by countries that do, let me tell you 80% will soon change their stance as i bet most countries will jump in with the west, I’m thinking Brazil, s.Africa and with a shove India as it wouldn’t want visas denied etc its up to us Europe and the US to start being stricter and more forceful with non Ukrainian supporting countries.

I can’t see why the Chinese government would risk everything by attacking Taiwan. It’s questionable whether they’d succeed. Taiwan is a sizeable island, is bristling with defensive fortifications and heavy weapons, and has US naval cover. It would definitely be a guaranteed disaster with large areas on both sides of the Taiwan Strait laid waste. Aside from the certainty of being in a hot war with the US, which because of its nuclear weapons makes war a non-starter, it would set virtually the entire region against them. The hit on the Chinese economy through sanctions and embargoes would be incalculable. With that would come high levels of social unrest and brutal repressions. Nothing good would be achieved. On the other hand the Chinese stand to be the principal beneficiaries of Russia’s increasingly difficult circumstances. They just need to be patient and do their best to keep their options open. Time is China’s friend.
