      To answer your question, the reason Eren is crying to the boy and saying sorry and his personality has changed and he claims it is already determined that he kills everyone is because during Historia's inauguration ceremony to become queen, When Eren makes contact with Historia (who has royal blood), He basically sees his future of the rumbling, that's why his face was so disturbed looking after he kisses her hand. He knows what his future holds and that there is basically no way from deviating away from it.

    I love how Eren’s apology scene connects all the way back to his conversation with Reiner
    He says in his apology that he’s worse than Reiner, cause while he is doing the rumbling for multiple reasons, he also has selfish reasoning too: He was disappointed in the other side of the sea, that humanity survived, that it wasn’t a baron land to explore
    When Eren talks to Reiner and Reiner admits why he broke the wall that day was for his own selfish reasons (wanting to be a hero, to be respected), that’s when Eren says “I knew it, we are the same” because they both do terrible things for selfish reasoning

    • @hanz_lost
      @hanz_lost Pƙed 23 dny +30

      And he reverted to being a child and fully embraced this selfish desire in the "this is freedom" scene and also as a way for him to forget/escape/run from the guilt he has while doing the rumbling.

      @berserker7091 Pƙed 23 dny +30

      Wow finally some comment where he understood AoT and Eren's true intention. You are correct. That's why Eren was sarcastic to reiner during declaration of war, he is not blaming Reiner, he wanted Reiner to admit that he did invade Paradise for his selfish intention.
      So Eren and Reiner are the same, but just like Reiner, When he crossed the sea, and saw that there's innocent people, they had this guilt in them, Reiner had like 2 personalities as a result and Eren became so conflicted even asking Mikasa what is he to her, that could probably make Eren give up his dream and just run away with her. If only all human outside the world are evil, he wouldn't have problem killing everyone, but unfortunately the reality hits harder than he thinks.
      Remember, Eren was so determined to eliminate everyone, he told that to Floch and Historia, at that time Eren didn't cross the sea yet. so he had no Idea that there's good people, because in Grisha's memories that Eren saw, all people in there are doing bad. So eren thought that everyone outside is Enemy and Evil. Until he crossed the sea, and see it for himself.

      Hit the nail on the head. The future is determined and cannot be changed, because Eren has made up his mind and cannot be changed, because he's a stubborn suicidal bastard. Always has been.

    • @Beargrim
      @Beargrim Pƙed 22 dny +7

      @@Putrefax I understood the story of the anime to be that the future is determined, but it is because Ymir is manufacturing a future that she wants to see. Eren is allowed to think and try to do things all he wants, but he says in the next episode, "I tried to change things so many times". Then when Mikasa's final scene with Eren happens, Ymir is standing behind her watching a woman cut down her lover out of necessity. The thing Ymir couldn't do 2000 years ago.

    • @AM17titan
      @AM17titan Pƙed 22 dny +14

      @@Beargrim Aot’s timeline is determined not because of ymir but EREN HIMSELF
      Eren isn't stuck in a predetermined path because of some outside force. He explicitly states that everything that happened up to that point was something he personally wanted. However, that's precisely why it couldn't have ended any other way.
      Eren has always been himself, and his strife for freedom was ultimately what bound him to act exactly as he saw in his memories of the future. Whenever he tried to change said future, like when he tried to walk away from Ramzi getting beaten up, he always ended up acting as his memories told him. This isn't because he succumbed to them, but because the future set before Eren is the only future Eren himself would've ever accepted.
      AoT's timeline is predestined because people will always be slaves to what they want, and if their will doesn't bend to accommodate others, then the only solution left is for them to fight.
      Also, Eren wanted the rumbling. Saving his friends and the island were definitely reasons for him to act upon his desires, but he explicitly states that those were just excuses to indulge in his desire to eradicate humanity outside the walls due to his disappointment.
      When Eren tells Reiner they're the same, he means precisely that. Reiner admitted to Eren that saving the world wasn't the reason he kept going with the plan to breach the wall. What he actually wanted was to fulfill his childish desire to be respected by others and be considered a hero.
      Eren knows that what he's doing is wrong, and tries to cover up his selfish desires behind more noble ones that he also cares about, which is why he could only enjoy the rumbling by regressing to his child self.
      Also, just to be clear, Eren didn't plan on being stopped from the get go. When he realized he would've been stopped, he still decided that he would've tried the full scale rumbling anyway, as he explains to the others in paths. He wasn't lying when he told them that he was hell-bent on destroying the world, and the only way to stop him was to kill him.
      He knew that their beliefs couldn't be reconciled, and that even if he got killed, he would've still managed to protect his friends and ensure peace for paradise for a lot of time. However, he admits that if nobody came to stop him he would've simply continued with the genocide. Not only that, but he's aware that his desire to complete said genocide is what brought about the deaths of Sasha and Hange in the first place.

    To me, the whole "future is predetermined" thing is specific to a linear view of time in this series. It isn't the usual, "Oh, I saw the future, so now I can change my choice to avert it." He didn't "see the future". He saw a *memory* of the future; that is, there is a future ahead of him that future Eren has already experienced and is sending back as memory. If it didn't occur, then he never would've been capable of receiving such a memory in the first place. And try as he might to subvert the future, Eren can *FEEL* his own disatisfaction with the alternative future that would bring. Even if he wants to not commit genocide, he personally is unwilling to part with his higher priorities of saving his friends.

Whether it's a "vision" (scene/information) of events to come or a "memory" (scene/information) of events to come relative to him, they're both functionally the same thing. He should be able to make different actions than what he foresaw. Outside of the usual plot hole with such time travel shenanigans, there should be a third unknown force in play manipulating Eren's actions here.

So, when Eren glimpses of memory of the future, he's simply glimpsing a different part of the timeline. But no he can't change it, because it's already "happened".
      I agree with you tho - It seems like there is an unknown party involved that exists in the fourth dimension. When it comes to these topics in fiction, (time travel shenanigans and bootstrap paradoxes) I don't think of it as a plot hole, I just accept that as a third-dimensional being I will never comprehend nonlinear time and just enjoy the story with that mystery left unsolved.

    Cool parallels if you wanna look into it: Attack on Titan is heavily inspired by Norse mythology. Ymir, which means "Screamer", is the first giant. Ymir's birthplace is Ginnungagap, a void in which the primal matter that is molded into all things resides. Yggdrasil, the huge tree that's branches and roots bind together the cosmos, stands above the Well of Urd, a pool of water in which a great serpent lies. When valiant warriors die, they go to Valhalla where they share tales of glory. A person's Fate is inevitable; trying fight against it is useless. Fate culminates in Ragnarok where the forces of chaos overwhelm the forces of order & fire-giants rise from the depths to burn the world.

    The rumbling killing everyone, Hange's final stand, and the air drop onto Eren are all heightened by excellent music.
    I wouldn't say it's the animators really doing the heavily lifting, it's anything auditory. The music is the obvious one but the voice acting is top tier. It's a bit muffled in this reaction, but the part at 16:07 when the engineer is telling people to hurry, that's pure terror in his voice.

    More than a anime..The audio, the graphics, the speech...đŸ”„ 15:21 this scene was amazing.''shinzou wo sasageyo'' for hange,more tears and goosebumps😭
    Eren: ''In order to obtain freedom, I will take freedom from the world. But I will not take anything from any of you. You all have freedom. You are free to protect the world’s freedom. And I am free to keep moving forward. As long as we each hold unbending convictions, a clash is inevitable. There is but one thing for us to do. Tatakae !!'' This is IsayamađŸ”„
    It's symbolic how in this chapter the two people that died were the ones with completely opposite ideals. Floch died for the rumbling to continue and Hange died so there would be a chance for the rumbling to end. They're the opposite sides of the same coin who hold onto what they believed
    He could have chosen to return to his island to treat his wounds, but instead,(maybe he never slept) he decided to pursue the boat and shoot multiple times at the fuel tank, and in his last moment he still doesn't show any hatred towards the alliance but only thinks about the safety of his country, please rest in peace king, you have done your duty as a true patriot.â€â€đŸ”„âœŠđŸ˜ą

    In this scene at 24:00, Annie was actually reminiscing about her old days with her friends in Marley and Paradis. Pieck was being friendly to her, Sasha and Connie were scaring her with frogs, and Armin waved back at her. She also remembered moments with her dad. Since she was raised solely for fighting and 'killing,' her only reason for fighting is now gone, and she's just so done with everything. However, now Falco will be the reason she sees some hope to go and do what at least could be done.

    Eren can't predict future, he can only see "memories" of his future. This really helps to understand why future seems determined in this show.
    He tried to change the future by not saving that kid, but couldn't resist his nature, I guess. And his monologue before that implies that he made several attempts before that too.
    So basically, whatever he actually can see in his memories of the future is already "happened", thus cannot be changed.
    His behaviour is similar to someone with an addiction. Even if you know it's a bad decision, sometimes you just can't help not to do a bad thing.

    A couple of things. This story is a determinalistic story. The events of time cannot change. Eren isnt "seeing the future" hes seeing a memory of the future, which implies its already done. The creation of titans made a static timeline in which the beginning and the end have already been determined.
    I wont speak on Eren because we only got half of the puzzle. I'll wait till next episode to speak words on Eren.
    Ok time for me to show my true colors. Hange is my favorite character in this show. She's an incredible character. Barely over Eren. I love Hange because no matter what the world said nor pushed upon her she made her own choices and never sat with idle hands. She chose to be the change in the world she wanted. And while she isnt perfect... She strives for what is right no matter the circumstance. Your tears were shared girls, because we lost an amazing character with this episode.
    RIP Hange Zoe.
