This is my understanding: The only way that the House can directly hold someone to account is to hold them in Contempt of Congress. But the House doesn't have any ability to arrest anyone or put them into jail. That requires cooperation by the Department of Justice and the federal judiciary. It isn’t 48 hours after the assasination attempt, it is 9 days. Cheatle has had time to investigate the Secret Service people involved and at least discipline some agents who were at Butler. This hearing is not useless as it shows she’s covering up for someone.
