- The subscapularis is a large triangular muscle which fills the subscapular fossa and inserts into the lesser tubercle of the humerus and the front of the capsule of the shoulder-joint. Rounded shoulders, poor posture, along with chronic shoulder stresses commonly affects the subscapularis muscle to develop adhesions and muscle contraction/shortening.
This is the only video online that makes it simple to find the subscapularis.
Right are you Doctor
Thumb armpit, say ow
I’m SO grateful for this video. I tried so many different tactics, stretches, and exercises over the past couple weeks and couldn’t get any permanent relief or pinpoint where the pain was originating. This technique gave me instant relief and even made my neck feel less tight. I can’t wait to see how much improvement I have after doing this every day for a week. This is the only video I found on CZcams that actually helped me access the subscapularis. Thank you!
Where have you been all my life! This is the education I've been missing, through my L4-5 pinching, shoulder/bursitis impingement, etc. I love that I do this myself with your specific coaching and singling out exact areas of stuckness. Much more relief than going to a professional---osteopath, PT, chiropractor, etc---and hoping that they will know what I am experiencing and be able to release the pain. And so immediate! I love your generosity and clarity sharing your knowledge---so glad I found you on youtube, this out of desperation being in unmitigated pain and giving up on the unhelpful medical industry. Thank you for empowering me to take responsibility for my own body. Feels so good.
Thank you! I am 52 and have been disabled since 2008. I’ve been to dozens of doctors, specialists and therapists for over 15 years. They all treat me like I’m an impossible case. The physical decrepitude along with fibromayalgia has stopped me from living a normal life. Ive been doing my own acupressure and I’m I very much in tune with the pain pathways in my body. Thanks to you I can stop burning myself out trying to keep up with regimens that are not effective. Instead, I speak to my doctors with the confidence of your research behind me !!
This is really helping. I do this routine every day and I notice a difference in pain and I can feel that muscle loosening bit by bit. I wish I had found this video one year ago when the pain began. These movements help me for most of the day, and the sharp pains (twinges) are less and less.
Yes! I've been recently told I have frozen shoulder. The pain is so intense, I haven't gotten more than a couple hours of sleep per night in the last month-month and a half. This is the first thing I've tried that's actually helped me. THANK YOU!!!
I have gone the medical, physio and biokinetic path with only temporally relieve. After this video I had immediately relieve!!!!!! I will keep up doing this daily. God bless you!!
Wow! I've tried many many remedies for my frozen shoulder problem and this one is the best so far. Thanks!
Absolutely the best video for how to palpate the subscapularis. I’ve had random luck releasing it before, other times just hit things that made the situation worse. This makes it easy to find it and avoid pushing on other structures.
Thank you so much Doc Mandel.I have subscapularis problem now and my frozen shoulder are too painful for me doing my household choirs everyday.I am so thankful for giving us your time to educate and understand how to deal with this problem.GOD bless and more power to you.
Amazing, I can feel the difference right away! Thank you!
Pure genius. I tried this. Easy to do. Easy to understand. Want to do this daily and see the results. This last year has been difficult with shoulder pain and pectoral muscle pain. Every video you release is extremely helpful. Thank you.
I had a lot of cracking and crunching in my right shoulder and this really helped. Thank you
I love the explanations Dr Mandell. Many Thanks. More please!
I love his change, and follow him. Thank you so much Dr Mandala.
Dr Mandel I have been suffering with this shoulder problem for 3 weeks I got from overhead pressing at the gym. I had tried every self massage on youtube and even tried to get my gf's small hands under my scapula from the spine side with my arm in the "cops about to cuff you" pose. When I grabbed that muscle and started doing the movements in your video I heard the cracks in my ears immediately and felt relief. Thank you
OMG!!! Thank you sooo much for this very informative and helpful video Dr. Mandell!! The relief is wonderful!!!

A big thank you to you Dr Me. I benefits a lot from the way you explain your lecture and how you explain it with your body, how you bend it goes through the mind and I get it clear. Because I have dislyxia. I wish when I was learning massage the teacher explained it like you so people learning difficult can get it clear

Freaking amazing technique to release the muscle stiffness... results are almost instant. Thanks!
This Man is a genius.
Got a great release. Thank you!
This is a very old video now and some of your new ones are helpful. But for some reason I’ve tried so many things and cannot completely get things to release. This gave some immediate relief tonight, so I will try doing it for a few more days and hopefully begin reducing my pain. Thank you!

Wonderful techniques...thank u sir
I am so glad I found your channel. Many of your shoulder techniques have helped me tremendously with my pain. I was diagnosed many years ago with cluster headaches with no relief from any of the doctors that I went to. Two years ago I was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder, the a c end of my right clavicle. I had had no trauma to the area, it just began hurting with headaches simular to the cluster headaches I have on my left side. I was sent to a orthopedic surgeon who specializes in clavicle repair but he offered no help but to say the radioligist was wrong and my shoulder was just frozen. He sent me to physical therapy where I was told that it wasn't frozen but actually dislocated. So, for two years I have dealt with this pain with no relief until I found your channel. I truely believe now that both my clavicles are slightly dislocated due to some forgotten trauma in my youth because I can use your techniques on my left clavicle and relieve the pain of the cluster headaches as well as on the right side. I don't know where I am going to go from here but you have given me hope. Thank you so very much.
Hope you feel better soon. Blessings
Wonderful...invaluable - thank you!

thank you doctor!
Thank you!🙏🏻
Thank you.... GOD BLESS YOU 😇😇😍😍😍
Thank you again, very helpful to have the diagrams explained. We can't help ourselves until we gain a concept of our own biomechanics. I found it very helpful to not only locate it the way you showed by pushing on our other elbow to make it flex so we can feel where to grab onto it, but also in the exercises. Kinda like holding a small trout while it wiggles.
Blessings to you Vicky, keep up the good work.
Thanks doc
You the man thank you

Hi Dr Alan, first of all, thank you for all the videos you have shared that have been blessing to me & others. I have been suffering from painful Osteo Arthritis on my right shoulder for almost a year. Thank God for finding you in CZcams.. So far I have started doing the Frozen shoulder exercise because I cannot find exercise on your CZcams for OA. Is Frozen exercise can be used for OA too? Kindly advise. May God bless & use you mightily.
Immense relief following the instructions on this video. Thank you, Dr. Mandell. Make it a great day!

It’s cracking thanks for these easy exercises 💜❤️🧡💛🌷👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
wow! this is great!!
do you have any multi-release technique for tight pectoralis muscles (especially the minor)?? thank you so much!
just an observation: my shoulder clicked a lot while doing this (never had any injuries there, I just work a lot in computers and feel a lot of tension in all the area) - I guess that would be normal...am I right?
Is it possible to reverse pectoral excavatum through exercise or stretches?
I'd call this my 'stiff mouse' muscle For decades moving and pressing on the computer mouse makes the arm and wrist turn over in a most awkward position. This video is the cure
Odd question I think you may have pointed me towards the answer! If I have an issue with this muscle can it make you feel dizzy when moving your head? Problem only occurs the day after pushup /overhead presses. Thanks
I either strained the top of the long head of the bicep or the subscapularis. I tried this on the affected shoulder and wow. I still have pain from the injury but my gosh, my shoulders do not feel like they are pulling forward as much. How often should this release be done in order for it to be more permanent. Are there exercises that can be done after the release to hold things in place?
Hi dr mandell. thanks for your advices which I work hard to fallow. My problem is Scapular part of my shoulder clicks at all times which results of accident. With physio therapy,it´s better. But the click still there, please dr help me with some of your advices to stop the click. gud bless you with best regards.
Can a tight subscapularis be responsible for pulling downward on the levator/upper trap? I feel a pulling sensation and hoping to relieve the downward pull. Thanks!
I've been having shoulder pain which I think is from poor posture, sleeping on my sides, and bad form while weight training on bench and other exercises. At first it was a slight sting in top of shoulder. Shortly after doing chest day at the gym my shoulder swelled up and there is no pain. A couple weeks later it starts to tighten my neck and upper back making my shoulder blades constantly popping and hurting. All the while I am trying to correct my posture. Doing this excerise in the video helped my upper back and shoulder blades stop hurting. However I want to know how to bring down the swelling, it's not even hot either. It just makes me feel imbalanced. I did go to the gym and worked out my rotator cuff but what else is needed to get rid of this swelling and pain ? When does it go away?
Ive tared this muscle
What kind of doctor should i go see?
thanks had stroke effected left side of body now have spasms
God is reaching people through you! I believe you are serving God through your profession! I have been following you for long time you are amazing! God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit bless you and your family! We all are given life span I think you are using it successfully! Wow! More blessings!
I have id back painsometimes on left sometimes on both sides. it is at the lavel of dorsal latissius level. but i think this video is not for that muscle. can you please talk about this. As suprpinatus video did help me.
What kind of doctor are you?? My therapist has never done this for my frozen shoulders, or my chiropractor, nor has my ortho mentioned this, all I've been told is I have c4,5,and 6 issues, issues because of my right neck dissection, making the right side worse, and of course problems with my hands and neck, like a domino effect. BTW, I instinctively dig under my scapula with a massaging tool I have, as well as along my spine, after a bit I feel great relief. I think somehow the mild bruising also helps with the "healing".
Hi doc may I ask if there is pain at back shoulder at scapular with tingling and it increases by lifting weights what my diagnosis
Hi Dr.. My son (12) is a pitcher for his baseball team and has been told he has subscapular tendonitis - We are not throwing (or even looking at) a baseball for 3 weeks.. Would this be something that would help him in the interim or even possibly speed up the recovery process?
Namaste
wow! it really hurts where my thumb is digging into the muscle!

I have bad neck a couple of vertabrae are worn and my neck is straight. now the shoulder I'm wore out with it I hope this help because I have trouble sleeping at night. thanks

ypur videos are actually very effective doc and i got some questions....my left subscapularis is kind of long and doesnt function well my chest muscles dont work as well my neck and all over my fingers.....Will these exercises help in correcting all those?
Couldn't guarantee it without knowing more of your underlying condition. You might want to see a therapist and get evaluated
This muscle tight causes my migraines
I’ve been having under scapular pain for over six months after doing heavy pec-deck and when I did the negative movement of the excersise I felt pain so I stopped going to the gym. And when i did this release it helped only temporarily and also I felt little bit of burning pain in some of these motions. What could be the reason?
