Subscapularis Multi-Release Technique for Frozen Shoulder, Bursitis, Rotator Cuff - Dr Mandell

  • The subscapularis is a large triangular muscle which fills the subscapular fossa and inserts into the lesser tubercle of the humerus and the front of the capsule of the shoulder-joint. Rounded shoulders, poor posture, along with chronic shoulder stresses commonly affects the subscapularis muscle to develop adhesions and muscle contraction/shortening.

I’m SO grateful for this video. I tried so many different tactics, stretches, and exercises over the past couple weeks and couldn’t get any permanent relief or pinpoint where the pain was originating. This technique gave me instant relief and even made my neck feel less tight. I can’t wait to see how much improvement I have after doing this every day for a week. This is the only video I found on CZcams that actually helped me access the subscapularis. Thank you!

Where have you been all my life! This is the education I've been missing, through my L4-5 pinching, shoulder/bursitis impingement, etc. I love that I do this myself with your specific coaching and singling out exact areas of stuckness. Much more relief than going to a professional---osteopath, PT, chiropractor, etc---and hoping that they will know what I am experiencing and be able to release the pain. And so immediate! I love your generosity and clarity sharing your knowledge---so glad I found you on youtube, this out of desperation being in unmitigated pain and giving up on the unhelpful medical industry. Thank you for empowering me to take responsibility for my own body. Feels so good.

Thank you! I am 52 and have been disabled since 2008. I’ve been to dozens of doctors, specialists and therapists for over 15 years. They all treat me like I’m an impossible case. The physical decrepitude along with fibromayalgia has stopped me from living a normal life. Ive been doing my own acupressure and I’m I very much in tune with the pain pathways in my body. Thanks to you I can stop burning myself out trying to keep up with regimens that are not effective. Instead, I speak to my doctors with the confidence of your research behind me !!

This is really helping. I do this routine every day and I notice a difference in pain and I can feel that muscle loosening bit by bit. I wish I had found this video one year ago when the pain began. These movements help me for most of the day, and the sharp pains (twinges) are less and less.

Absolutely the best video for how to palpate the subscapularis. I’ve had random luck releasing it before, other times just hit things that made the situation worse. This makes it easy to find it and avoid pushing on other structures.

Dr Mandel I have been suffering with this shoulder problem for 3 weeks I got from overhead pressing at the gym. I had tried every self massage on youtube and even tried to get my gf's small hands under my scapula from the spine side with my arm in the "cops about to cuff you" pose. When I grabbed that muscle and started doing the movements in your video I heard the cracks in my ears immediately and felt relief. Thank you

I am so glad I found your channel. Many of your shoulder techniques have helped me tremendously with my pain. I was diagnosed many years ago with cluster headaches with no relief from any of the doctors that I went to. Two years ago I was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder, the a c end of my right clavicle. I had had no trauma to the area, it just began hurting with headaches simular to the cluster headaches I have on my left side. I was sent to a orthopedic surgeon who specializes in clavicle repair but he offered no help but to say the radioligist was wrong and my shoulder was just frozen. He sent me to physical therapy where I was told that it wasn't frozen but actually dislocated. So, for two years I have dealt with this pain with no relief until I found your channel. I truely believe now that both my clavicles are slightly dislocated due to some forgotten trauma in my youth because I can use your techniques on my left clavicle and relieve the pain of the cluster headaches as well as on the right side. I don't know where I am going to go from here but you have given me hope. Thank you so very much.

Thank you again, very helpful to have the diagrams explained. We can't help ourselves until we gain a concept of our own biomechanics. I found it very helpful to not only locate it the way you showed by pushing on our other elbow to make it flex so we can feel where to grab onto it, but also in the exercises. Kinda like holding a small trout while it wiggles.

Are there exercises that can be done after the release to hold things in place?

I've been having shoulder pain which I think is from poor posture, sleeping on my sides, and bad form while weight training on bench and other exercises. At first it was a slight sting in top of shoulder. Shortly after doing chest day at the gym my shoulder swelled up and there is no pain. A couple weeks later it starts to tighten my neck and upper back making my shoulder blades constantly popping and hurting. All the while I am trying to correct my posture. Doing this excerise in the video helped my upper back and shoulder blades stop hurting. However I want to know how to bring down the swelling, it's not even hot either. It just makes me feel imbalanced. I did go to the gym and worked out my rotator cuff but what else is needed to get rid of this swelling and pain ? When does it go away?

What kind of doctor are you?? My therapist has never done this for my frozen shoulders, or my chiropractor, nor has my ortho mentioned this, all I've been told is I have c4,5,and 6 issues, issues because of my right neck dissection, making the right side worse, and of course problems with my hands and neck, like a domino effect. BTW, I instinctively dig under my scapula with a massaging tool I have, as well as along my spine, after a bit I feel great relief. I think somehow the mild bruising also helps with the "healing".
