    I think deletion are just people cleaning up their wishlists. I have a personal rule to always keep my wishlist below about a hundred games, for example. So if I put a game in my wishlist and I look through it months later and find that I don't don't feel strongly about a game anymore then I'll delete it.

    • @shavais33
      @shavais33 Před 2 lety

      100 wish lists? 200!? But there's no way you're going to buy all those games! That's thousands of dollars! On Indie games?
      I have One Game wish listed on Steam. One Single Game: Blood and Meade. That's it. If it's published while we're young (if I can be forgiven for saying that!), it'll be the 2nd game I've ever bought off of Steam. And the other one is a AAA game that has gone out of support except for Steam/Valve.
      I've played a lot of AAA games over the years, but I don't play Indie games, as a rule, except for free phone games or free web games. I guess I have to admit that a long standing friend once said to me "You are the most oddly frugal man I've ever met!" And I've never ever purchased any in game content with real money. Never. People who know that I'm into game dev have occasionally gifted me with Humble Bundles. So, maybe I'm not quite exactly typical. But Still! 100 wish lists is beyond insane!

    • @aaronjackman6307
      @aaronjackman6307 Před 2 lety +2

      Wish listing for me is a way of listing games that may be interesting to me at the time, usually in hope of picking them up on sale later. It's rarely something I'm super stoked on and must have, it's really just based on intrigue. I might like a game but be unwilling to pay the price and may just wait for the value to drop, if it ever does, and if it doesn't there are 1000s of other games to play. But what I'm looking for can change wildly over time; I went on a survival game binge earlier this year but now my interest isn't there, it's now pixel art platformers.
      in an ideal world I'd buy everything that I find worthy to support the developers but my funding is simply not there.
      Is there something like a steam algorithm which helps interesting games get seen in the event that they have been wish listed? Because in my case there is little to no chance I'll ever buy any game at the moment it is released.

  • @haruruben
    @haruruben Před 7 měsíci

    I wish listed it just now, looking good. I think you should make the caves more majestic too. Instead of a boring grey wall imagine if you could see majestic caverns expanding into the distance with stalactites and stalagmites and you could see giant bats hanging from the ceiling and they drop off and fly from the background into your plane and attack!
    Make everything more majestic! How about the tavern? Maybe there’s a roaring fire in a huge ornamental hearth with rowdy merrymakers in the background drinking and singing…more majesty! 😂

    First of all, thank you for sharing these data. It definitely adds up to other sources and my own experience.
    And yeah, my suspicion about CZcams devlogs efficiency is similar. Unless you put a lot of time and effort into it, it has barely any effect on the game success. And you would be maybe better of putting that into other marketing effort, or even the game itself. Of course if you are not time limited, then sure 3 years of devlogs will amount to something (granted they are of decent quality at least).

      i don't think his game is what made his channel grows but rather the the content he provides
      and that why i'm here and i don't like the game he is making it's not my type and will never buy it unless for supporting him and as a thank you for the content he made here on YT. and not anyone could do that tbh. I myself cant do it as i'm just an ignorant and have nothing to provide sadly and would take me years to learn and i'd be late anyway.

    • @sosasees
      @sosasees Před 2 lety

      this is one of the reasons i make Text Devlogs instead of Video Devlogs. the main reasons are:
      • they're much easier to make since i have to worry only about the content and not about the presentation
      • the readers can read them at their own pace (to an extent that not even the "Playback Speed" feature allows for videos)
      • the readers can use "Search in Page" to look up a specific part of the devlog
      this makes me think that Text is just a better format for Devlogs than videos. even if i need video to show something, i find it much better to insert short videos into the text when necessary instead of making the entire devlog as a video.
      I believe the tradition of Video Devlogs was started by the Movie Industry, with their "Behind the Scenes" videos on DVDs. The first game developers who got inspired by this made Video Devlogs instead of Text Devlogs, and now the Video Devlogs inspire other developers to make Video Devlogs instead of Text Devlogs, too.
      Maybe this is just me, as i like to making Information Devlogs more than making Entertainment Devlogs, and because Text is generally better for information while Video is generally better for entertainment.

    Very insightful. I just looked up the “average” wishlist conversion rate and that’s 1.8% within the first week. So if 100% of your wishlists came from CZcams you would get 14.4 sales per 100,000 views. This isn’t including how ever many people buy the game with out wish listing or any other factors like being on the new and trending so take that with a grain of salt

  • @35milesoflead
    @35milesoflead Před 2 lety

    How does the high effort/low yield content affect your game production cycle? I found your game thru your devlogs and even wish listed it. But it was your examination of crowd funding video advice that made me aware of your channel and by extension your game.
    My wishlist is a disaster and it gets culled around steam sale time. I have your game on it. I just add stuff that I like the look of, then forget that it's on there.
    The magnitude of timing cannot be understated. Like game release timings where an indie launches on the same day or release period as a AAA game. Great songs have missed out on the #1 spot because they released at the same time as a novelty record. Joe Dolce kept Ultravox off the top spot in the UK after all.

    Keep in mind tho, your purpose is not just to get those devlogs up and gain more wishlists but to deliver an actual game at some point.
    From player perspective, I think a dev can only put so much content before they must release the product that they promise to deliver. CZcams viewers might not care but those who genuinely want to play the game can get disappointed if the wait is too long.

    • @LostRelicGames

      As indie developers, especially the solo variety, we have enough to contend with; that we should feel pressured by an impatient audience minority. For me, with my schedule and life obligations, to even get this game done is a feat. People can wait, there are plenty of other games to play.

    Are these particular video views organic or boosted from any outside social media? I just thought that may be an important factor for expectations compared to the wishlist rate. And if the video was boosted, how much money would likely be made verses how much was spent? If it is organic views I would think this may be a good experiment for those who are considering how much they should spent verses how many wishlists or even how many followers they might expect and what are some of the things a developer should do prior to purchasing or financially investing in their game.

    I'd like to hope that wishlists gained from YT videos are good quality but honestly I think you have to be careful about how you ask for wishlists... If you say "if you like what you see, consider wishlisting my game" that's a lot better than "support me by wishlisting my game". One is allowing the follower to wishlist on their own accord... the other is like you're asking them for a favor and they are just being helpful. As a note, in your pinned comment on this video you put "Support my work with a wishlist". This is a good example of what I think you shouldn't be doing. By saying "support my work" you're going to get people wishlisting your game with zero intention of buying it, because they think wishlisting alone is actually supporting you.
