Dan Hartman never got the notoriety he deserved.....rockers disowned him when he turned to disco music in the late 70's, but if you can go from writing Edgar Winters Group's "Free Ride" to James Brown's "Living In America", you are a music powerhouse that can conquer different genres of music....he was a dynamic talent!
He ran a recording studio out of his rented house in Westport, CT. He helped struggling artists by keeping studio time cheap.
He was pure class from a musical perspective.
I didn't even know he died until I watched this.
thank you for this .. Dan produced James Brown’s Gravity album and Tina Turner’s The Best .. Dan rocks 👍🏾
Hartman also wrote '𝑰 𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝑫𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒀𝒐𝒖' which was featured on the 𝑆𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑡𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐹𝑖𝑟𝑒 movie soundtrack, performed by 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒔, led by Stoney Jackson. I once argued with a guy about Hartman being white, b/c he insisted that Stoney Jackson was Hartman, when in fact, Jackson merely performed the song in the video, but I'm not sure it was Jackson who sang it. Wiki says it was Winston Ford who sang the ICDAY vocal on the movie soundtrack.
Dolores O'Riordan who dies in 2018 and more recently Helen Reddy who died this past Sept. Neither got the press they deserved.
The Cranberries were highly famous back in the 90's makeing it popular with the song Dreams in 1989 Karate Kid 3. Dolores O'Riordan was highly praised for her work so much that sevral bands did cover songs of The Cranberries after she died .
Benjamin Orr: Born September 8, 1947 in Lakewood, Ohio. Died October 3, 2000 in Atlanta, Georgia Cause: Pancreatic cancer
You can add Ric Ocasek to that too.
@@steveedelstein2958 Ric got a lot of coverage! Probably 30 times more than the co-founder of the cars, Benjamin Orr, who passed on 21 years ago.
Bless his heart. Stay the night is my favorite by him. Ben orr.
"Drive"... the most beautiful song the Cars ever did, and one of the most soulful songs of the 80's.
Ben and then ric.
Bob welch would be another of these with ebony eyes, and precious love , and sentimental lady.
Sentimental Lady and my favorite Fleetwood Mac song: Hypnotized.
Donna Summer, who was huge throughout the 70s and early 80s and labeled The Queen of Disco at the time was barely a footnote in the press when she passed in 2012.
It was all over the news, even Obama mentioned her on TV. I remember being quite upset when the BBC broke the news coz I loved her music.
It was all over the news in Australia. Most of the rest of the people named here, I've barely heard of while they were alive.
She was mentioned here in Ireland. Loved her. The breakfast club the movie ( I think ) used On the Radio all through the movie I loved the long extended version the intro and slow part is only beautiful - a mega star
It was Foxes the movie that used On The Radio
Her death was widely publicized.
Eddie Rabbit died secretly of lung cancer, His family kept with his wishes to be die without his Fans knowing it. He was a simple and kind man and most were shocked to hear he died. RIP Eddie you left a huge space now unoccupied in the music business.
I happened to be in Nashville when it was announced so that was big news there.
loved him!! "Suspicions" such a great song!!!
Yeah. He was very talented singer/writer. "i Love A Rainy Night" is absolutely classic. It isn't all he did, but it's excellent.
When George Harrison died, we were still reeling from 911..he passed on November 2001 and I don't recall as much news about him as one would expect.
Remember when Farrah Fawcett died right after Michael Jackson?
Very fitting as he was known as "the quiet Beatle" I remember it well made me think about John Lennon as with the remaining members.
@@totigerus She died before on the same day.
@@totigerus I think that Farrah died first & then after , Michael.
@@totigerus Farrah died first.
Laura brannigan is incredible! She doesn’t even pop up when you search for power of love and her version is amazing!!!!!
YOU ARE SO RIGHT,,,THIS GAL HAD A FOUR OCTAVE RANGE,,,SHE IS PURE TALENT,,PERIOD.AND TO TOP IT OFF,,,,,SHE WAS A 20 RATED FOX.THE TOTAL PACKAGE.
@malizee2264 - Thought she was wonderful. Did you happen to see her guest appearance on CHiPS? The episode was "Fox Trap" in 1983. For whatever it's worth, Boy George guested on an episode of that show, too.
Paul Young of Mike + the Mechanics, one of my favorite singers ever, died in 2000 of a heart attack. He was in his early fifties. Such a great voice and he sang lead on "All I Need is a Miracle' and many other Mechanics songs. After his death the Mechanics have never been the same and Paul Carrack actually decided to not be in the group anymore since Young passed away.
i didnt know that..
Without the 2 Paul's in the group and that chemistry Mike Rutherford has never been able to recreate the sound they had early on. Such a shame.
Didn't realise that he was in Sad Cafe who had a good song Everyday Hurts
I feel bad i didnt know his name.
Whoops.... I thought you were mentioning the Paul Young who sang "Come Back And Stay", one of my favorite songs from the 80's.
Laura Branigan had something very special in her voice. Never heard that again with any other singer. And that was very natural. Seen her live ones and she was awesome.
She was so unique and underated.
Absolute agreement! I have always been a fan of female vocalists who can belt out a song at high volume with total control and purity. Linda Ronstadt, Grace Slick, Annie Lennox, Debbie Harry... and Laura Branigan was in that group for sure. And did I mention that she was sexy AF?
Agreed
Laura has an incredibly melancholic and soulful voice and she knew how to use it. I miss her greatly.
WANNA KNOW WHY HER VOICE WAS SO SPECIAL??????SHE HAD A FOUR OCTAVE RANGE,,,YEAH I WOULD SAY THATS PRETTY SPECIAL.
I was a huge Dan Hartman fan. He could do it all and had a very unique and soulful voice. Though not on the list, I was also shocked when Robert Palmer didn't get much press or media news after he passed away.
Robert Palmer was fantastic!!
r.i.p.`robert`palmer.great`singer.romania..,
@@denisehoward177 for sure, especially his early stuff.
Harman was the bass player on Edgar Winter Groups, The only come out at Night. He is on Frankenstein here on CZcams.
I had the chace to see him with the Edgar Winter group in 1972 as he was the bass player and I remember him wearing his "bass jump suit" that had the pick-up, strings and the neck was sewed onto it...Never saw anything like that again!!! (there are pics of it on Google) He was a super performer, great bass player and singer!
May they all rest in peace.
Nicollete Larson, a native of Helena, Montana. R.i.P.
Got me , I did not realize that she passed , even though that I was listing to her biggest hit " Lotta Love " only two month's ago..
She was really beautiful, especially that album cover.
Didn't know she passed
What a lovely woman and a great singer... I didn't know she had passed on. I don't recall it being on the news. Seems very wrong not even a mention on the news.
Russ Kunkel was screwing Carly Simon, so he probably did that concert out of guilt!
I'd like to add Janie Lane, lead singer of Warrant. What an amazing voice he had! He passed away and hardly anybody mentioned it.
Benjamin Orr was a Legend to those who knew of him and his incredible talent...He has a pretty strong following still thanks to the Biography written about his life...He is still deeply loved and missed...#LETSGO 😎🎶♥️💯
Yes!! Great bloke gone much too soon.
true! i've read that book; what a great talent he was, not to mention frikking gorgeous!!!
Marty Balin's death should have received more coverage when he passed away in 2018.
MARTY BALIN DIED???
Fly high Jefferson Airplane.
@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music Yes. Heart problems .
Paul Kantner too, he didn't even warrant an obituary in our newspapers.
Backs up my point. I didn't know he had passed.
Laura Deserved so much more… especially in her career, but also after death. So incredibly talented.
Laura Branigan. Miss her so much! Cute, calm and nice LADY and very good singer. RIP Laura😔
Want to give a mention to Vikki Sue Robinson. "Turn the Beat Around"
Her vocals in that song still give me goosebumps. Such power and artistry in a disco song!
great song great voice
Marie Fredriksson from Roxette didn't get a lot of fanfare either.
Still sad about that.
Agree - I loved her.
@@matthewwilderbrokemystride2972 Same here. Heard another singer cover a Roxette song but no one can touch her.
She's not American, so they don't care.
She didn't. What a voice!
I was surprised when the death of Robert Palmer didn’t get a lot of coverage at the time (2003).
I don’t remember too much publicity of his death
I think it has something to do with how boring his music was.
I remember that. I was driving home from work and it was on the 6 o'clock news on radio 2. I worked in the building trade at the time and I used to listen to radio2 all day and it hadn't been mentioned and as far as I can recall it wasn't mentioned the next day either.
Yes, I thought he was so cool and still do.
Ya it really upset me his death barely got any reaction. I own all his albums from 1974 to 2003. He's a legend. He released an album the same year he died. Performed right up to the end . He did an interview 2 days before he died
My older sister loved Laura Branigan and would play her stuff all the time in high school. I was in a bank yesterday just yesterday when "Gloria" came on.
"Gloria" and "self control" are actually covers. "Gloria" was originally from Umberto Tozzi (1979) and "Self Control" was from RAF ( another italian singer/songwriter who published his first solo album in 1984 in which is contained the album's title song "Self control"). She did a remarkable job in covering those songs though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self_Control_(Raf_song) , czcams.com/video/HYvuWlOnBjI/video.html
She made everything she sang totally her's...and Gloria and Self Control
I can vividly remember listening to Casey Kasem tout Laura Branagan as a huge, huge talent to come right when Gloria was introduced....Damn, time flies bye...
Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot he was dead a week before he was found.
Yes. I remember reading that about him. Such a shame. May he rest in peace 🕊️. 3/3/21.
Rip Kevin.
Sad
Yeah Such a shame for a great singer like him...
Man that is truly sad! I remember in the early 80s you couldn't turn on a radio without hearing one of their songs.
Everytime I see nicolette Larson she looks different, she had a natural beauty that made her look exotic and was like a blank canvas for makeup artists to make her dazzling. Its really bizarre to this day how some ppl have that trait, her daughter is beautiful as well, her name is Elsie may and a musician
Sadly, she had a bad Valium & Tylenol PM habit - which very likely led to her liver failure and death - so many people are still unaware how bad Tylenol can be for your liver if you get just a bit too much of it in any 24 hour period - and it's included in so many OTC & Rx meds.
I love Dance with me. I played that song over and over when I bought a 70s hits compilation CD at Target when I was a kid. Sad that I never looked up the band Orleans, but their song is now a warm childhood memory.
Still the One was mine and my husband's song, but he is long since gone.
Two other members of Orleans were in the band King Harvest, and they wrote and recorded Dancing in the Moonlight, a huge hit.
Larry Poppen was an excellent singer. I'll admit that I had ignorantly assumed John Hall was their lead singer, not Larry.
I just checked it out. Larry Hoppen had a great voice!
Dance with Me was all.over the radio when I was 14, and still such a pretty song which I sometimes hear when grocery shopping. It's a weekly 1970s Top 40 trip down memory lane while I stroll around the store.
I played with Ronnie Hammond and ARS when my band opened up for Leon Russell in 96 Olympics in Atlanta for tennis venue, I was just starting out and was only a few months in from auditions from my band, it was bizarre meeting all these famous musicians and hanging out later, you learn about excess real quick, but true professionals and some amazing gifted ppl
May I add Benjamin Orr of the Cars to the list. I don't recall seeing a lot of coverage upon his passing. I love your show. Peace.
He was such a great singer! Many people think Ric Ocasek sang all of The Cars’ stuff, but Ben was the guy with that awesome voice behind Just What I Needed, Bye Bye Love, All Mixed Up and so many more.
Drive. To me, their best song.
One of my favourite singers ever and a great bass player to boot.
@@jcwm01 average bass player at best
Drive bass line same whole song simple miss Ben & Ric
Rest In Peace to all of them ✌️✌️✌️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ich wünschte, ALLE, auch, die die hier nicht aufgeführt sind, wären noch da... ich verdränge, dass sie es nicht mehr sind, und es sind so viele..der Verlust schmerzt.
Wow, I had heard Nicolette Larson had died, but I had no idea she died so young at just 43. I remember Showtime did a documentary on her a few years back that i recorded and eventually erased by mistake without ever watching it. Thought maybe they would repeat it as they do everything else, but they never did. What a talented young lady. May she rest in peace.
Ronnie Hammond had such a smooth voice. RIP.
I don't remember ever hearing about Billy Preston's passing. I found out he died in one of the comments on CZcams on a reaction video to "Outta Space", (one of my all-time favorites). Dan Hartman's bass playing on "Frankenstein" was epic.
I never knew Billy Preston was gone! I saw him at a rock festival outside Edmonton (that's a city in western Canada) that also featured Joan Baez. Sad passing.
Some left in a sound of silence, but all have left us with a room of music , all these folks played a part of our young lives and we thank them for that !!!
Paul Davis, who died in 2008. I Go Crazy is still one of the prettiest songs ever.
It was my favorite Paul Davis song and always reminds me of the winter of 1977 with all the snow.
I totally agree!
Brings a lump to my throat.
Didn’t know he died. Liked that song a lot!
I liked that song and also "Cool Night"
Eric Carr should least got a mention here. His passing would had more media attention if did not pass on the same day as Freddie Mercury.
That has to be the last rule of being a celebrity. Don't die on the same day as someone more famous than you are. (Farrah Fawcett, Chyna.)
He was only a PT singer during his time in KISS.
@@midohiobuckeyeaorwarrior9743 he was still an equal.
Laura Branagan's mother also died of the same thing and that's why Laura was afraid to go to the Doctor. So sad.
Wouldn't you go to the Dr so you don't die of the same thing?
@@bradbasic7939 .....
Realistically yes, but I get it.

Paul Kantner co-founder of Jefferson Airplane died in January 2016.
Did not know that.
Best psychedelic band ever.
Signe Anderson, the original lead singer for Jefferson Airplane, died the same day as Kantner.
@@markoman5267 That’s bizarre I didn’t know that.
And Marty Balin died in 2018; also cofounder of Jefferson Airplane. very sad
Well Alvin Lee didn't get much fanfare. Lead Guitar and Singer of Ten Years After. He is Rocking Out the Heavens.
Dan Hartman was overlooked and underrated as a songwriter-producer-singer. To go from early 70s rocker with Edgar Winter Group to 1980s pop star who wrote for other artists is a testament to his musical versatility and diversity. He was one of a kind.
Orleans Dance With Me is one of my favourite songs ever, it brings back such great memories.
Laura Branigan was a voice I loved to practice to when I would sing in my room for hours on end growing up. I also admired Nicolette's voice and hair! I saw the Orleans in the 90's at a festival that included the "Time" album lineup of Fleetwood Mac, (where I fell in love with Bekka Bramlett's voice!) Pat Benatar, and REO Speedwagon. I remember the Orleans sounded unbelievably perfect LIVE! Such sad endings to super talented souls.
Laura was a super hot babe with a fantastic voice. She was very athletic and a former cheerleader. I listened to Gloria all though the summer of 1984.
Atlanta Rhythm Section was "the Steely Dan" of Southern Rock
perfect analogy
What does that even mean? Lol
As a fan of both, that's a great comparison!
Not their founding singer but a cornerstone on their sound...
Ronnie Hammond was that voice everybody knew but nobody knew. One of my 70s favorites and a sweetheart to boot.
Robert Palmer his death barely got any reaction. I own all his albums from 1974 to 2003. He's a legend. He released an album the same year he died. Performed right up to the end . He did an interview 2 days before he died
awesome singer! "Every Kind of People" is one of my favorite songs : ((((
Didn’t he have a heart attack, I thought I heard? Maybe didn’t know he had heard disease? Too bad. Great songs.
i loved the "Clues" album...especially that weird track he wrote with Gary Numan: "Found You Now"...
oh, and the albums version of "Woke Up Laughing" is very cool - (a mashup of 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures)
@@Melinda8162 yes, he had a heart attack; such an awesome singer and so handsome!! Gone way too soon 😢😢😢
I know! He was so awesome!! That’s great that you own all his albums! 😢😢😢
Toy and Tommy Caldwell from the Marshall Tucker Band, Hughie Thomasson from the Outlaws. Too many greats left us too soon.
The Outlaws also lost Billy and Frank three weeks apart in 1995. Both were in their forties.
Good call.
Also George McCorkle. Got to know him when he moved to Conway, SC in the early 90’s and had a stained glass studio there. Still have several custom pieces including a set of miniature lamps and a horse head. Super talented and nice guy, gone too soon.
I will always appreciate the smooth, soulful voice of Ronnie Hammond. He highlighted every rock and roll song within his reach. Such a talent, may you R.I.P. Ronnie.
Incredible talent. I attended Nicolette Larsons Tribute Concert.. I think it was Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.. 1998 , the list of performers was huge, but CSN , Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown and her hubby Russ Kunkel played drums for everyone where standouts for me. She and Linda where like sisters and to hear Linda eulogize, lots of tears. I wasn't aware of many of these passings. Gifted musicians all gems ! Thx John.
And she was married to Paul Simon.
@@briancollins5117 Uh...no. That was - and remains - Edie Brickell.
Shannon, thank you. I knew she was special to Linda Ronstadt, who I love, but never knew she was married to Russ K. So pretty, and Lotta Love special stuff...
I Can Dream About You and Gloria? Those songs take me back to the days when life was new and full of optimism. Laura's death reminds me of how Sandy Denny died.
I didn't know Alvin Lee had died until I watched the grammys that year
Great guitarist!
@@andrewscigarboxguitars2213 Huge fan of Ten years After. he was lightening fast, Saw him a few times in Sydney. Sad news when he died. Great guitarist.
Awesome guitar played with Ten Years After
His singing and guitar playing on I'd Love To Change The World were impeccable. It remains one of my 5 favorite rock songs ever.
Greg Lake, Michael Stanley and Benny Mardones would be good for a part 3
Benny mardones always gets a bad rap because alot of people think he was talking about himself at his age with a 16 year old instead of his teenaged self with a 16 year old. The comments always galled me because so many people misunderstood that. Wonderful song though, always liked it and still play it from time to time.
@@douglasdepirro8364 I met a good friend of Benny's here at YT during the social media site's earliest days. Her name is Marlene Roos - and she could tell you so many stories about the time she knew him. I did NOT know about Benny's death until very recently. So sad. One of the best one hit wonders...EVER!
Also tony Lewis of the outfield. I 've seen him on a utube video. But he hasn't been mentioned very often.
Thank you.
His bandmate John Spinks died in 2014.
May I add DAVID BYRON. The most criminally overlooked singer to pass away with hardly any fanfare or coverage by the press.
that was my first thought
David Byron? Never heard of him.
@@TCDL11 me either. But ok
@@TCDL11
Ever hear of Uriah Heep? C'mon man, one of the best rock voices ever.
He was never overlooked by his fans. Uriah Heep were a great band. Lee Kerslake was a great drummer and can now jam with Dave up there.
Surprised Jimi Jamison of Survivor isn’t on this list.
John Wetton - Asia
Eric Wolfson - Alan Parsons Project
I was devastated when I heard Eric Woolfson passed. He was The Alan Parsons Project.
Eddie Money's death didn't receive much attention :(
Got a lot of attention in the Bay Area.
RIP Mr Edward J Mahoney 😔
David Byron's death was a tragedy. He had the "perfect voice, original lead vocalist for Uriah Heep. I would rank him right next to Fred of Queen. Ken Hensley just recently died. The Byron,Hensley, Box years brought some of the greatest rock, in history. "Look at yourself" "Demons and Wizards" "Salisbury" ect. Alcohol killed him.
Saw them here in Sydney at their peak in the 70s. Great band.
Byron died alone, his death made few papers at the time.
Stephens Dygert.
Uriaha heep were absolutely fantastic, also somewhat underrated.
I would put them on a par, with Purple and Zeppelin for sure.
Absolutely loved Dave Byron, just listen to Bird of prey alone, his vocals were majestic.
R.I.P. all who graced the progressive rock world, their like will not come along again.
that era will never come again.
Does anyone remember the song STEALIN?
July Morning from their live album. A Masterpiece. Such a tragic loss at such an early age. For many, hard to be a rock star in the 70's. Many survived.
Great, short, sharp presentation of wonderful artists who now sleep with angels (the Neil quip intended). Another sadly missed without much ado is Leon Russell - at least down here is Aus. Still love his work.
Gotta add Jon English to the mix as far as Aus. representation. Complications after an aortic aneurysm surgery did him in. He was such a talent.
RIP to all so talented so sad🙏❤
Larry Hoppen was a gentleman and an exceedingly good guy. His daughters attended All Souls Catholic School in Sanford where he performed at school functions and was active in school activities. Most noteworthy was the graciousness with which he made himself available to children who wanted to talk about music.
You could have added James Ingram who died in 2019. Cause his death was like "Meh"
Meh? Not nice to say.
They were all great musicians..
James Dewar. Great bassist and lead singer for Robin Trower.
I didn't know about the Orleans singer or the Atlanta Rythm Section guy.
I don't think Jimi Jamison (Survivor) got much coverage
Larry, and Orleans as a whole, never got the big recognition they earned.
Natalie Cole a handful of years ago died with barely a whisper....I vividly remember how HUGE her Unforgettable duet mix with her father was....seems like yesterday.
To be honest I remember Natalie Cole dying with a bit of fanfare. Some of the singers listed here got at most a mention in a newspaper. As I recall Natalie Cole's death was announced on TV news and shows like Entertainment Tonight.
Greg Lake (Emerson, Lake, & Palmer). What a voice!
And Keith Emerson. Only Carl Palmer left.
Pete Way and Paul Raymond of UFO. One of the greatest rock bands in history! Most underated band of all time!
I agree...but NEITHER of them were singers for UFO.
I can name 10 Lead singers who didn't get much fanfare when they passed.
Rob Grill (Lead Vocalist for Grassroots) 1943-2011 (Multiple strokes due to head injury)
Alan O'Day (singer/songwriter "Undercover Angel" and "Angie Baby") 1940-2013
Darryl DeLoach (Lead Vocalist for Iron Butterfly) 1947-2002 (Kidney cancer)
Melanie Thornton (Lead Vocalist for La Bouche) 1967-2001 (Plane crash)
Mel Appleby (Lead Vocalist for Mel & Kim) 1966-1990 (Cancer)
Annette Snell (Singer) 1945-1977 (Plane crash)
Stuart Adamson (Lead Vocalist for Big Country) 1958-2001 (Suicide)
Cornelius Bumpus (Vocalist/saxophonist for Doobie Bros) 1945-2004 (Heart attack)
Andrew Gold (Singer "Thank You For Being A Friend" and "Lonely Boy") 1951-2011 (Cancer/heart failure)
Charlie Rich (Singer "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World") 1932-1995 (Pulmonary embolism)
Andrew Gold , drummer played for Linda Ronstadt's song , " You're No Good ".
I remember reading the obit in an Australian newspaper when Melanie Thornton died.
@@mardiluz Andrew Gold multi-instrumentalist
Sorry, but half of those people weren't that famous... and Charlie Rich was the biggest prick in country and nobody liked the bastard!
Rob Grill was amazing. ♥️
Actually, Laura Branigan had a lot of fanfare. It was mostly outside the US, where she was more popular. Her album Self Control went platinum. If she did lack fanfare, it was in her later years. Her earlier years had her appearing on American Bandstand a number of times, along with the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. She should have received better recognition here in the states.
Dan Fogelberg....2003
Actually 2007
Dan Fogelberg is mentioned on "5 Big Lead Singers Who Died Without Much Fanfare: Part 2"

“Longer” is one of my all time favourite songs. I was heartbroken. Surprisingly it got coverage here in Ontario.
Yep, that one got by me too until recently.
I love The Power of Gold. RIP
Many talented artists, on that list!...#gonetoosoon...
Russell Smith of Amazing Rhthym Aces, lead singer and main songwriter. I never heard anything about his when it happened back in 2019. I found out by accident in Dec 2020, when a post about a song by "the late Russell Smith". I was extremely surprised.
Ray Thomas, of the Moody Blues... January 4th, 2018
Self Control by Laura Brannigan is an absolute banger
My favorite Branigan song !
Thank you for including Nicolette Larson. I was waiting for the final artist hoping you inluded her. She was barely five feet tall. She had that sexy space between her front teeth and that incredible head of hair. I had a school boy crush on her as many us did. A part of me died that day. We still love, beautiful child.
Looking back Peter Steele who was the lead singer for Type O Negative and Carnivore died in 2010. The metal community were respectful when he died but the media ignored it. I don't if its due to Peter's politically incorrect lyrics but his death should have gotten more attention.
Peter Steele immediately came too mind. Such an amazing musician, songwriter and, damn, that voice. Pete was taken much too soon. RIP
Very respectful,and informative. Thank you.
You are very welcome
Let's not forget Walter Becker of Steely Dan!!
Not a well known name or solo artist
He had a fair amount of fanfare though.
What about Layne Staley? He died and nobody found him for almost a month afterward. Alice in Chains was definitely as big of a musical entity as the others mentioned.
A month?! For real?
It was a big deal
Tragic.
OMG, I didn't know it was that long before they found him.
It was 2 weeks, his accountant and manager noticed that no money had been taken out of his account for awhile so they checked in on him and found him dead in his apartment. Mike Starr was the last to see him alive a few weeks prior and took the death pretty bad himself and took his own life with drugs as well.
Jeff Healey should be on this list.
Agreed. A unique musician.
Gary Moore also could sing "picture of the moon, and that whole album seems forgotten
Absolutely. He was not just a highly talented guitarist but he had a voice that was perfect for blues/rock. He accomplished a lot in a short lifetime and was highly respected by many of rock and blues most prominent musicians.
Very sad that we missed some these great talents,
Thank you for this tribute!
No Ray Gillen? The guy sang for Black Sabbath.
A great singer....
Dan Hartman Rest in Peace . Free Ride one of my favorite songs.
Really good episode. After seeing Rock History Music for over a year now, this is the first Rock History Book episode I've seen - keep up the great work.

What a song writer!
Layne Staley Alice In Chains. Nothing, zero about his passing in mainstream media. He was one of the very best.
He sure was, got to see Alice n Chains open for Kiss, the girl from TLC, the one who painted black around her eye died in a car accident at about the same time as Laynes passing so the media and MTV were all over her death , which shutdown the news of Layne's passing in my opinion which is bullshit because he is one of the best.
So so sad to see such talented people pass on,that young! RIP💔😔😥
Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy
Listen to Angel of Death on the Renegade album. It’s awesome!
Glenn Frey should be on that list.
Glenn Frey dying hardly registered with me for a different reason.
Because he died the same day as my brother, and I was too upset about that to give Frey any attention when I heard it on the news.
I recall quite a bit of media attention for Glenn. He died right after Bowie.
There was an excellent program on HLN, “What Really Happened”, which aired on 4/4/21 that dealt with Glenn Frey’s death.
Frey’s death hit home with me. He died of the disease I had, but fortunately I made it. Sadly, he didn’t. ( Ulcerative Colitis).
I'll always remember Laura Branigan from "Self Control." Had to check how "Gloria" sounded like but while the song itself is familiar, I can't remember hearing Branigan's version of it.
her version of Gloria was the big hit in the US
my favorite of hers is Ti Amor
Thanks for researching and posting this! These souls performed the Soundtrack of my late teens/young adult years.
Dan Fogelberg too
Jimi Jamison of Survivor
Self control is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard
Benny Mardones I know he may not be the most popular but I love his music and it’s a plus we’re from the same hometown.
Well done as always John.
Michael Been of The Call died of a heart attack in 2010. I think because The Call wasn’t a mainstream band people tend to forget how good they were.
Hello! Benjamin Orr
Seems people forgot Dr. Hook as well..
He died too?!💔
Ray Sawyer (eyepatch), died December 31,2018.
