    Basale leaves or Malabar Spinach is easy to grow in the comfort of your home and an excellent source of protein, Vitamin A, C, Iron, and Calcium. They have a number of health benefits; often used to treat ulcers including mouth ulcers, heal wounds, relieve constipation, improve digestion and treat iron deficiency.
    Varieties of Tambuli recipes are native to coastal Karnataka. These include Tambulis prepared from Doddapatre, Basale as well as Brahmi leaves. Additionally, we have Tambuli recipes that make use of Ginger/Shunti and Onions.

    Ingredients:
    Basale Soppu or Malabar Spinach - 15
    Ghee - 1 Tbsp
    Cumin Seeds / Jeera - 2 tsp
    Black Pepper - 8-10
    Green Chilli - 1
    Grated Coconut - 1 Cup
    Buttermilk - 1 and 1/2 Cup
    Salt
    Seasoning Ingredients:
    Ghee - 1 Tbsp
    Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
    Jeera - 2 tsp
    Sun-dried Chilli or Sandige Menasu - 1
    Method:
    1. Wash and chop the Basale Soppu or Malabar Spinach and keep it aside.
    2. Add 1 Tbsp Ghee/Clarified Butter to a pan.
    3. Once Ghee melts, add 8-10 Black Pepper and mix once.
    4. Add 2 tsp Jeera and roast them till they slightly change the color.
    5. Now add chopped Basale Soppu or Malabar Spinach and roast them in medium flame till the leaves shrink.
    6. Transfer the roasted ingredients to another bowl. Allow to cool.
    7. Add 1 Cup fresh grated Coconut, 1 Green Chilli, Salt and little water to a mixer jar and grind to a coarse paste.
    8. Scrape the sides of the mixer jar and add roasted ingredients and grind to smooth paste.
    9. Transfer this paste to a bowl and add 1 and 1/2 Cup of Buttermilk.
    10. Mix well with the help of a whisk or a spoon.
    11. Now we have to do the seasoning with Ghee/Clarified Butter.
    12. Add 1 Tbsp Ghee to a small frying pan.
    13. Once Ghee turns hot, add 1 tsp Mustard Seeds.
    14. After Mustard Seeds splutter, add 2 tsp Cumin Seeds.
    15. Once Cumin Seeds slightly roasted, add 1 broken Sun-dried Chilli.
    16. When the Chillies turns dark golden in colour, add immediately this seasoning to the Basale Tambuli and mix well.
