I come across handball occasionally, and I used to think the keepers were completely useless, no point in having them at all. But after seeing this video, they look so good with every save! Given their response time, they can be monsters if playing for football teams. :)

I'm a keeper too, and I agree with you on this. Positioning, recognizing hand and arm movement and reflexes are what you need to be a successfull keeper. Sometimes luck helps though, for instance when you're facing a penalty, some goalkeepers face people who shoot as fast that they can be almost impossible to reach, so they must do a wild guess, or let reflexes help you :p
Some of those saves are reminding me of the legend Cecilie Leganger. Very impressive!

I have to comment on some of the things being said about handball keepers. Some of the saves are a bit lucky, but that's only because they manage to position them selves correctly. The greatest keepers in the world, omeyer, Hvidt, Fritz have an amazing ability to position them selves with the best angle between the goal and the shooter, and because they force themselves to keep their eyes open as long as possible so they can react towars the ball, that's why they save more balls than all others
@13auer You should try´n put yourself back there..! There are so many technical details in their play that seperates them from less genius goalkeepers..:)

good remarks from your point of view, but logically in football or hockey water-polo........ players are trained to aim to far angle of goal keeper either low or high edge of the pole to ensure to execution of the shot. the goal keeper in hand ball is trained to block the target with a forward jump as they open hands and legs to distract the player and minimizing the distance of maneuvered shot. thank you

@Ringmaste016 I understand your point, by the way I know practically nothing of this sport, but why does he jump with his hands in two seperate corners and his feet in the air in two other corners ? It seems to be he is jump covering his corners and hope the player aims there.
Please reply if im wrong, but it looks to me like he is just guessing where the ball is going to be, like a goalkeeper on a penalty shot in soccer (or football as you call it)

@ski4life19 Well Australia Beat Uruguay to get into the world cup. Schwarzer saved TWO penalties. He said in an interview he waited and watched for it. The one's that guess are the one's that don't save them :P
one of the first things you are taught as a handball keeper is positioning.
and I have to disagree with the "luck" involved. keepers do they're best to read the players movement, aka, the players position, hand position, hand movement, etc. and they act accordingly.
you are obviously not a handball goalkeeper if you call that luck, or a bad one

Most of the good ones wait to see where the ball is going.
as any players goal keeper therefore cannot be described as luck that is WRONG, GOAL KEEPER is trained from day one how to react to the hand positions of the players from the elbow to the wrist. each one of these goal keepers are brave to take it as it comes believe me it hurt too, and use their training with their experience to predict the ball direction with a quick judgment and make his move to save the ball with pride in the name of the game that all folks the rest of the story.
In the UK we play handball with our feet XD

omg you just dont understand handball. It's Fritz and normally the keeper moves down by a penalty or tries to save his face but he just keeps stay and uses his face to save... this is handball
