🍸 Drink Destinations explores the cocktail scene of different cities around the world, highlighting the history, drinks, bars, and amazing bartenders. 🗺️
This series was over 12 months in the making. 📆
During my travels highlighting/filming brewers, winemakers, and distillers, I was getting introduced to bartenders and bars to visit.
Each person had an amazing story and to listen to their passionate words about the city they were in and the drinks that they made was inspiring to me.
How to create an entertaining segment that people would enjoy?
I became a student of cocktails, binge watching every drink series on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and various streaming services I could find.
The result I came up with is connecting everyone to a "sense of place," a starter guide for the viewer of the best bars/bartenders in cities around the world.

Love this!! I grew up in old dive bars in the city that my grandpa owned. The last bar he purchased was Trad'r Sam. I grew up in it and have been there since I was 21. I even had 2 children with 2 different regulars that are adults now😍I love our little tiki dive bar! So many wonderful bars in San Francisco and I am so proud to be a native. Too bad it isnt like the old days though ❤

Irish coffee ties in to another lost SF institution, the Pan Am Clipper sea planes, as it was invented in Foyne, Ireland at the seaplane port there.
The lightly whipped cream (indeed pioneered at the BV) reflects the lower butterfat of American vs Irish cream. Then SF mayor Christopher (a dairy man who is also blamed for destroying the Tenderloin) suggested whipping the cream as it wouldn’t float otherwise, as it had in Ireland.

When I first came to SF, I stayed at the hostel at fort Mason. I was walking along the wharf and ended up in south beach/chinatown. Where Kearny intersects with columbus and ? , I went to the bar right next door to Vesuvios called The Grasslands. Now this was over twenty years ago and Grasslands was absolutely the worst bar I have ever seen in my life. Naturally, I loved it. It was so bad that in order to flush the toilet you had to poor a five gallon bucket of water down the shoot after you were done. This place was right across the street from where Francis Ford Cappolla lived. I would hang out there after work and play the jukebox until 2am. Good times there!

Rob, thanks for this comment. It is a classic bar and one I personally wanted to highlight because of that. You give me perspective on how to define bars moving forward and dive is something I need to consider, especially for classic bars like this.
