You are such a great resource to the indie anamorphic filmmaking community this module is just the most recent installment you have chosen to share with us. I truly appreciate the knowledge you share and the detail you apply to your explanation/ evaluation. The range finder set up will extend the usefulness of so many budget friendly Anamorphic lenses. As an early adopter of LiDAR for this very purpose I am pleased to see the current iteration. Breathing new life into vintage manual lenses excited me from day one, making that process more nimble is indeed icing on the cake. As always thank you for creating this video and sharing it here on CZcams.

Great explanation Tito, thank you! My RS3 Pro/Lidar just showed up, and waiting on my set of Remus. This video is going to be hugely helpful when setting that all up.

Excellent video! I'm really impressed by how throrugh, informative and well-shot it was.
Do you know if the setup: would work, or if the speedbooster will throw the Lidar off?
Or might it be better to get a MFT native lens like the DZO Linglung?

Been using the Dji’s rangefinder on my Vazens with my Komodo for about a year now. It’s worked fantastic for me. May switch to the PD Movie Live air LiDAR if it works as good as the DJI has. No cables, smaller, lighter and you can map 5 lenses instead of just 3.

They should make this a standalone product.

Just fyi, there is Axoncine BM3DF-g2 that works with DJI 3D focus without gimbal, totally independent, but you need also Tilta Nucleus Nano motor/control wheel. I use it with ZCam + anamorphic lenses/adapters. It is not perfect and doesn't have any face detection or tracking, but follows focus well when subject in 3D "eye". You can store 5 lenses calibration data and can be switched by button when swapping lenses without recalibration. Not very pricey either. Works for basic shoots within 10 m or so, ie what 3D can see.

They just announced it as a standalone product today! DJI Focus Pro

a standalone for next version is a must and would be cool that integrates with Tilta Nuclues 2

Thanks for the video, great as always!
Did you try the DJI Focus Module with the DJI transmission system and the monitor? Apparently, with that you can have access to a looot more features once you detach the RS3. You can have a real depth map, the focus plan and the distance (that you show at some point in this video, as a previously 4D-only feature), change focused subject with the DJI handles, toggle autofocus on and off, draw focus areas live, and other cool things that could only be done with the gimbal before. The lens map is something that could be done only with more expensive systems like CMotion, costing 10 or 15 times more.... quite impressive.
Oh and, a little tip: Nitze makes a clever bracket that allows to mount the Lidar module exactly in the best position you want, and even to tilt it when you have to focus very close subjects. Particularly useful when shooting in 2.4:1, as the head of the subject is generally lower than when shooting 16:9.

Great content. I am a new subscriber. Can you specify which mark is actually infinity on the Sirui Venus lens set. Is it the actual Infinity mark denoted on the lens....or is it at the very end where the focus ring can not turn any further?

Would love to know more on your take with adapter setups on parfocal zooms! All in one zoom lenses are neat, but there’s so much untapped zoom potential out there, especially in good vintage glass!

Can you please do a review of PD movie live air smart lidar? It seems superior to Dji

If i dont own any manual lenses - should i keep my lidar ?
I hav only sony GM lenses.
So lidar is useless right ?
Better sell it off and wait for Dji RS4 !!!

yeah, if you don't need manual focus and the camera is doing all the work, then you don't need it. :)

I'm sorry to bother you. I just bought my first Sirui anamorphic apsc 24mm lens but have encountered a diagonal flare issue. It's supossed to be a straight line but it's not. Do you know what may be happening? Thanks!

So, basically it’s still tied to the DJI gimbal. Hopefully Tito will review the PSMovie.

    • @ForestCinema

It’s not technically. As someone increasingly working 1st AC gigs, I added up what a full “stand-alone” kid would cost with pro battery adapters from Tilta… totals over $6K.
      Rangefinder $660
      Cable Hub $90
      Transmission $2500
      Grips $700
      Motor $150
      Monitor plate X2 $80
      Transmitter plate $140
      Reciever $1700
I REALLY hope they do one that doesn’t require their transmission system to be usable, and skips that “octopus” box with cables all over the place.

Also USB-C is a laughably idiotic cable for this application. It should be LEMO

What is the boxy cable vs regular cable? Why does it need the boxy one ??

    • @AnamorphicOnABudget

@@AnamorphicOnABudget i found some stuff online that said the box is for cleaning the signal from interference but regular cable should work… but I notice my unit is finicky… and I wonder.. box? Haha.. where the heck to mount that stupid box !??
