And he's spoken on what ILC did for his career. But nearly 30 years later after Ace Ventura made him a star, it's clear he had the goods to be an a-lister.
Even though you make a good point @throwdashaka5249, the time when In Living Color came out was a different time and the show worked in that particular period, the early 1990s. We're living in a super PC and cancel culture world that ILC today would be sooooooooo watered down that its cast members and writers would be walking on eggshells in production or when the show aired.

Eventually they started to get involved in the creative process of the show, not letting keenan ivory Wayne keep the show the way he wanted

My bro was born in 79’, my sis and cousin were born in 84’, then me in 85’ and my last cousin in 89’ so we watch a shit ton of In Living Color! It was our everything. I even have pictures of us play and playing dress up with In Living Color playing in the background ❤

I watched every episode of the first 2 seasons In Living Color during 1990 and 1990-91 on Fox on affiliate Washington, D.C.-based WTTG, when I was in Hyattsville, Maryland during that time.
I'm so glad I own all five seasons of In Living Color. And one of the reasons for that is so I can from time to time watch the opening credits of Season 1 and 2. I love Klasky Csupo's artwork in the Seasons 1 and 2 opening credits, the splash of colors and the late 1980s to early 1990s graphic stylings.

By 1990, Fox start HBO Independent Productions, which produced shows broadcast TV and basic cable networks like Roc, Martin, Down the Shore, Arresting Behavior, The Ben Stiller Show, the short-lived sitcom Daddy Dearest, Laurel Avenue, House of Buggin', the rebooted version of Get Smart, The Last Frontier, Everybody Knows Raymond, The Jury, The Bedford Diaries, and Lucky Louie.

They had a DJ, SW1(Shawn Wayans)....even thought they played the same single track for every episode.
That's funny, but Shawn wasn't even a real DJ, he was an actor which helped him pull that off (what you said) every episode.
It's amazing for a sketch show when almost an ENTIRE cast and hell even a back up dancer has a pretty good career afterwards.
This along with family matters Martin fresh prince and Living Single are the funniest shows in the 90s
