I have lived in Thailand for many years and decided to visit last year. I just could believe how deplapated it looked and lack of infrastructure, and the quality of food was questionable. The level of poverty shocked me
However, the people were extremely friendly and helpful.

The vloggers, I'd say, or at least many of 'em are selling the Ph. They sell the women and the possibilities of age gap relationships, spice it up with friendly ppl and low prices 'n you have the "clickbait".
Furthermore I think many vloggers simply record vids in order to have something to do, as well as many guys watch those vids for the same reason.
Thinking about Cambodia myself now btw, always wanted to visit, 'n at least I get a bit bored in the Ph. when I stay here any longer time.
As for meeting women in the Ph., it still works, but of course, with all western guys coming here for that or trying online from their home countries, it creates insincere ppl, which I believe is a growing problem.
When you "scratch the surface" of the actual culture, lies, deciet 'n toxic behaviour is in some ways more prevalent than in the west, which some expats, I believe quite a few actually, have learned the hard way. Smiles are great, but they often hide something 😅

The bloggers here in the Philippines all do it to try to supplement their income. They usually have a little money to work with but end up spending their whole life trying to earn enough to get by. With the Filipino people being one of the highest users of wifi time in the world the bloggers have a good chance of getting a piece of the pie.
If you want to meet a good quality woman here you almost always need to come here, invest the time it takes to meet the right lady then see how the relationship develops as you hopefully learn something about the culture here and what the lady is probably expecting from the relationship. If she ask you for anything financial, she is probably more of a hooker (which is fine if that is what you are looking for) than a good prospect of a good wife DUH 🙄.
My opinion after 5 solid years here (keep in mind I found the lady of my dreams in the 2 years prior to moving here for good) is this can be frustrating and paradise at the same time. Mostly it's up to the individual just like anywhere else.
I have zero sympathy for anyone that gets scammed here as it is ALWAYS their own fault.

The Philippine's has changed, my first visit to the Philippines was 24 years ago and it was a very friendly country. I found Vietnam a very friendly country recently, I've never been to Thailand so i cant compare that country. Philippine's has two main things in its favour, age gap difference and visa,

@@aaaa-pe1zi my first visit to the Philippines was 1970.. I got out of high school in 69 and I failed my physical for the army.. I wanted to go overseas and I'm glad I failed my physical because I didn't realize what I wanted to get into.. an older friend of mine I met through my father's work partner and myself started a import export business.. my first visit to the Philippines in 1970 was mind-blowing.. there was nothing to buy and sell in America.. great place to start a company because of the low wages and no Unions.. and it still is the same today because of the low wages.. after 2 years of traveling the world and buying stuff or looking for good deals I was tired of living out of a suitcase. we mostly ended up buying new Volvo and Mercedes cars in Sweden and Germany and shipping them to the USA and buying special order custom cars in the USA and shipping them to Scandinavia mostly..
. Bought lots of furniture out of some castles in Ireland and Scotland and shipped it to New York City and the furniture companies would buy the whole sea can without even unloading the whole can and looking at all of it.. the first few pieces they unloaded they were totally amazed especially at the price we were selling it..we got the furniture for next to nothing and it was cheap to ship back then.. we were wholesaling it cheap and it worked.
Got the furniture next to nothing by paying some of the taxes on the deserted castles.. made lots of under the table deals with the public officials also..we made some good connections and some good friends.. I remember in Ireland they wanted us to join the IRA.
We did not want to make them mad so we did not say no but we made some good excuses why we could not join at that time. that was really scary..in 1970 the Philippines was like something out of a Humphrey Bogart Casablanca movie or some of the older movies about southeast Asia.. Europe and Scandinavia was absolutely amazing and breathtakingly beautiful.. even though the USA was involved in Vietnam the rest of the world was relatively peaceful and they actually liked Americans everywhere I went.. the USA was a wonderful place to live.. if the world and the USA has changed so much since 1970 I feel so sorry for my grandkids and great-grandkids.. they will never get to see the wonderful beautiful world that I got to see when I was young.. I love my country but I would say the USA is unlivable especially if you are on a $2500 a month retirement budget.. the Philippines and my Filipino fiance / wife and her family are my home now.. I still have wonderful memories of the USA and growing up in the 50s and 60s.. like George Carlin said, the only way you can live the American dream now is go to sleep and dream it..hehe.. everybody should watch George Carlin skit on the American dream..🇺🇸😢👙😁😎

Great video Simon, concur with many of your views.
I am married to a Filipina since 2007 (actually married her twice) we have been travelling in and out of the Philippines regularly as we are expats working around the globe.
I have only recently (12 months) started to watch you tube (since my daughter has started watching along with her peers), so I can’t say I have been misled by the vlogers as I have pretty much made all the mistakes myself and learned the hard way.
But what I will say about other channels is that about 80% of the content I have seen is ill-informed & incorrectly portrays real life and of course the click bait channels just wanting viewers to improve their income targeting the sex travellers with constant references to meeting and dating. (present channel excepted).
Like you said everyone’s experience is different as no 2 days are the same in the Philippines, ( especially in terms of bureaucracy and process.)
Keep posting the facts and the truth about your experiences it is what sets you apart from the rest.

If you've had experience driving a real motorcycle with clutch and manual gears I'd recommend the Honda TMX 125cc, brand new 56,000 php. I bought the Yamaha YTX 125 over a year ago for 52,000 php but wish I'd bought the Honda. Mine is 4 speed, the Honda is 5 speed. Extra gear is nice on the highway. I know someone who bought one of the fancy automatics 250k php and he left the key on. His battery drained fast and he had no way to start it. No kick start and you can't bump start an automatic. He had to push it a couple of miles. My little Yamaha has been great, reliable and dirt cheap for a new bike. I don't mind shifting gears in Dumaguete traffic either. The two bikes I mentioned are also Philippine workhorses. They already have mounts to attach sidecars. Rusi are a little cheaper but Chinese made. Not quite as reliable from what I've heard.

    Shooting from your hip.
    Agreed 100%
I've been regularly viewing Philippine vloggers now for well over 7 yrs.
Plus I've been fortunate to have visited the islands from 1982 thro 2001, mainly for work with one longer vacation with an X European wife ( coals to Newcastle as they say...lol...)..totalling over 6 months in country, in addition I've worked in majority filippino work environments for several years.
Hence overall , despite not being in country at the moment, I consider that I'm qualified to make a qualified comment, combined with the fact that I'd been almost on the international xpat road from 1978 till 2021, spending extended periods of time in over 100 countries.
I definitely find some of the established vloggers not only misleading but often inconsistent...
Definitely agree that many of the afore mentioned vloggers don't have much in the way of previous international experience. ..
All in all your vlogs come over very well, breath of fresh air almost....lol..
Keep up the fantastic work ...
I'm with Ellen on the mac n cheese not my thing ...lol...
Definitely we spend a lot of our time choosing stuff, not like the good old days, when you saved your money , bought your product , choice black or black ...lol...

I watch vloggers' videos, such as yours, simply to see how other people deal with their lives in the Philippines. Some of the information offered is useful, some is just deceptive. I came to the Philippines 5 years ago because it is where my wife, whom I met in HK 10 years ago,, comes from. We have a child together - age-gap is 12 years, so nothing substantial - She just wanted to come home to be near her family, while I simply had had enough of the rat-race and just wanted to retire early and have a decent, stress-free life. I have been coming here intermittently as a tourist for 25 years anyway, so I am aware of the pitfalls/problems/negative aspects of living here, but the benefits outweigh the detriments. No one is going to fleece us because, where we live there are no foreigners and my missus is well-respected and active in our community. We have a family, property, a business and a decent income so we are quite happy. We live in the sticks, although it's not so isolated as to be problematic. We have regular visitors from HK and the UK so they bring us the stuff I can't get a hold of in the Philippines.

I do not know how old you are but I think if a guy over 60 gets on a motorcycle and rides around the Philippines he is a fool.. it is a good idea not to ride at night or in the rain no matter how old you are unless you have an excellent health insurance policy.
. after 60 you don't heal as fast from injuries and your eyesight and reflexes are not nearly as good.. I started riding and racing at 13 years old and I quit riding at 50 in USA.. sometimes your life and health is just not worth the risk.. just buy you a good used Toyota Corolla hatchback or Honda Civic hatchback with a good air conditioner and low miles.. put a camera in the front and rear to use in case of accidents and it will last you forever.. it is also like buying an insurance policy when you buy a decent car.. also I have a little $2,000 truck to haul stuff with.. I could live very well on a thousand or $1,200 a month but I choose to spend $2,000 or $2,500 a month because I cannot take it with me and I do like my luxuries.. $2500 a month in the USA including rent you would get no luxuries..of course I do not ever spend my emergency money.. I do not care what you watch on CZcams or on the news or anywhere else because you have to draw your own conclusions and use your brain to discern the fake from the real.. the CZcamsrs will say anything to make a dollar.. some of them even think they are Steven Spielberg or Tom Hanks.. who anywhere in the world wants to see a man over 50 years old without a shirt.. these guys get so pumped up on their ego they go plum crazy.. In fact sometimes their channels receive a massive boost by featuring a guest who has suffered hardship. Relationships on the rocks, desperate financial straits, these are the ingredients that make for intriguing viewing. Oh and of course let’s not forget physical altercations….another ratings winner

The reason these vloggers paint an all sunshine and rainbows picture of of the Philippines is to appeal to Filipino viewers. Its called Filipino baiting. Filipinos are the highest consumers of CZcams in the world. Many channels have exploded by doing it

Or maybe your expectations are too high. That's why you got disappointed. or maybe other vloggers whom you thought were not totally honest in what they say about the Phils., simply did not experience what you had, specially the bad one. Most of locals here have no intentions of selling the country to foreigner., we just wanted to be friend with you. If Thailand or other countries are suited for you or too good for you,, you can always leave the Phils & go back to where you think meets your expectation. Don't misread me anywhere in the world there're always people who try to take advantage of you., i mean you can make your choice, you can say NO, or walk away. , good Filipinos will always understand people like you.

The more i watch vlogs about the Phils, the more I'd rather Vietnam. I'm learning Vietnamese now. Cheaper accommodation. Better food and the only downside is English isn't prevalent. Ive been to Vietnam and i love it. And less likely to get a scammer or a disingenuous partner! Move to Da Nang in Vietnam Steve. Cheaper, cleaner and better. Don't waste too much time in the Phils! 🤔

If you can speak the language and you don't care about a lot of younger girls falling all over you,,you darn right Vietnam is a better country all the way around.. I am too old to learn another language and I have a Filipino girl half my age that really loves me so that is the reason I am retired in the Philippines..😮

You confused about loving you boy .
Filipina is perhaps the only woman in Asia can stay with you , without even having feelings for you , and even if she cooks, clean , smile at you and have sex with you , one day you will have a big surprise buddy, like poison in your food, another secret pinoy partner, the only reason Filipina marry and accept big age gap is the possibility to have your pension ,house after you die.
The another woman who do this is Russian girl is equivalent to Filipina in behaviour, they are practical when they marry outside of their race.
      Watch your back buddy.
