Memories of ''1983'' The Early days of MTv Bubble Gum Pop music was a fun time in the early mid 80s as a black kid i was very intuned to alot of white artist And groups with those british acents as well as white Pop music through out the whole decade of the 80s. When this song came out in 1983 life to me seemed so innocent And fun😎😎😎

"Human" is really nice too. Produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

"Why does that sound intentionally bad?" Haha!! It does...almost for contrast...like mid century pop art.

Done intentionally for sure, it’s very prog.

Gotta say I grew up at one of the right times. A simple investment of 99 cents got you 12 albums of your choice, and then you only had to purchase 12 albums (at regular club prices) over the next two years (plus shipping). This album was in my intro shipment, along with Prince's 1999 and Journey's Esc4pe. It was a good haul.

From my memory this is the first song I heard from them in I think 82. They reminded me vocally in this song of a UK Sly and the Family Stone LOL. That chorus is real catchy. Back then alot of the Synths sounded like that.

and nowadays, producers pay BIG BUCKS to reproduce that sound. Cool thing about The Human League, even though they were making music into the digital era in the 80s, they always went (at least on these albums) with Analog synths, meaning all parts were played out by people, no sequencing. I've seen a newer clip of them performing & it did look like one of the synth players were playing a modern Oberheim (digital) as well as a Nord (also digital). But, digital has come a long LONG way in sounding analog.

When this song came out I really liked it, because most of us were already intrigued after "Don't You Want Me baby" came out. But when this video came out I LOVED them because we got to see the band members individually perform and the video concept was a trip! One of those cases where MTV really did its job

The way beats were created in the 80s where they take once piece of music and then put it all together with other pieces to make a specific sound is incredible. Unfortunately they don't make hooks like that really anymore, most artists now just sample from these great songs from the 70s and 80s instead of coming up with their own original beats.

This was recorded in 1981 so the synths are pretty new technology then. The studio was shared on a 12 hour day and 12 hour night basis with former members who became Heaven 17.
Dare by The Human League and Penthouse & Pavement by Heaven 17 are absolute classic early 80s synth pop.
Check out Temptation by Heaven 17, from another album release in 1983 but a cracking single.

Keep up the good music man. Love the shirt btw that’s a great album. Since you seem to be reacting to classics that are under appreciated with a curiosity you made me a fan, subscribed. 80s especially early to mid eighties had a lot of hidden gems and groups.

I think they tried to get that out of tune synth sound. It really worked too, it's different sounding. I agree that it's a catchy song. This is my favorite from them.
