Cor anglais (aka. English horn and member of the oboe family) seems to be the specific instrument used to produce that amazing, melancholy sound. Thanks to the person in the prior comments for pointing this out.
We need more classical covers of Boards of Canada like this. Their music is absolutely worth it and very suitable to make a whole classical cover album.
they even did the whole batshit intro, i'm stunned this was an early fave of mine when i was in hgih school, seeing and hearing this now in 2022 20y after that first listen is.... like many have said, an experience. i love a cover with a slightly different feel. i don't think i could drive for hours and hours through the countryside to this. i could absolutely clean, or make art, something more active. glad these two versions i like so much.
I have absolute chills. This was a gorgeously composed and performed version of one of my favorite songs. Putting this on repeat from here to eternity!
This is fascinating. As a lover of both orchestral music and electronic music, i'd love to hear more of this kind of thing. Though i confess I do miss the warmth of the bass. A Studio version of this cover where they could mix the double bass a bit louder would be gorgeous. Come to think of it, a third option could be a studio version combining the orchestral and electronic elements. Possibilities for music are endless!
This is fantastic. It is such a tribute, so close to the original yet so sublime in its own way also. You should all be so very proud of this, what a fabulous thing to do!
Years and years this track has been my go to from BoC. When I need calm, and beauty it never fails. This classical take makes me cry tears of literal joy. The brothers are musical geniuses.
I’ve came back to this iteration a dozen times and have shared it with other BoC fans. I think this is genius. If only there was more of it to satisfy this new love.
Yes, B.O.C. are an interesting EDM outfit and the video to EYDIAB is both thought provoking and dark and fits well with the tone and style of the song.
this is basically what a remake of this song would sound like if you gave Ludwig van Beethoven a mp3 player with this song and told him to remake it lol :P
Such amazing cover! Can't believe that it was possible to do such wonderful cover of a BoC's song this way! Truly otherworldly cover! Congratulations!!
Me too but there's a limit to how clean a recording I can make with a cheapish camera and sat on the front pew of a small church whilst trying to film from my lap! You might find this a little cleaner though www.blogotheque.net/2016/06/27/fractured-air-x-blogotheque-s01e06-june-mix/ Track 4 (13m38s in). Better yet just go and see them play somewhere. They regularly cover BOC at their gigs we-are-stargaze.com/
Agreed on that. Ambient meets classical actually works. A new era in the making - it was only a matter of time. I think BoC is an easy supreme choice despite their own technical difficulties in retro failthfulness. Autechre would be another, if not so emotionally deep - still deep, but technically more challenging perhaps.
Love this song and rendition so much. Any idea how I could get a copy of the sheet music they used? I'm learning to play and want to make phrases from this piece one of my practice goals.
I've never seen actual human beings playing boards of canada music, if this video brought tears to my eyes, I can't imagine watching the duo live...
It's that warm, ethereal oboe around 4:20 that brings such a tear to my eye.

" brought tears to my eyes" yeah you could say that lol

@@threedeemelodies great recommendation.
I wonder if BoC has heard this cover, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
whatever the style, this music stays beautiful.....that's why Marcus and Mike are pure Genius....
David Verlinden called absolute music in technique of composition. Like late J.S. Bach composed mathematical musique (Art of the fugue)
Perfectly put 👍
when the clarinet comes in ... wow
Yeah, that brought tears to my eyes..
Agreed. Put chills down my spine
Only in London do classical musicians do covers of Warp artists.
Stargaze is from Berlin, though...
What about Alarm Will Sound?
@@deferlow They're English aren't they?

Loving how BoC´s music is translate to a classical atmosphere instrumentation, that´s sublime. Love
Absolute magic.

Fabulous.
You've brought tears to my eyes.
It possibly is the greatest piece of music ever. Thank you for covering it.

Absolutely loved it. Perfect in its own right, and true to the feeling and depth of the original. My favourite BOC cover... So far.
Wow. Just. Wow.
Just found this cover. Such a breathtakingly haunting rendering of one of my favorite songs.
absolutely stunning! Very, very cool!
Des frissons à travers tout le corps. Des larmes qui coulent. Je n'ai pas les mots.
Unreal. Whoever scored this, you are very clever 👏🏾👏🏾

My god. 4:22. This is so beautiful, even more beautiful than the original ...
This is a great cover idea, for a classical orchestra.
It's a noble effort and tribute, heck even lovely but you are out of your fu*king mind if you think this is more beautiful than the original.
TheWinterShadow agreed!!!! Better than the original???? Say what!!!!!
Does anyone know what instrument plays the melody here?
That would be a cor anglais (part of the oboe family). czcams.com/video/TpSwkoR0Dlo/video.html

Same, it sounds so good but it could be amazing. And I mean that as a compliment lol.
