BMW has spent the last 20-odd years making a modern icon out of MINI. The whole thing is about to change dramatically soon though. So is this facelifted 2022 car the last great MINI of the modern era? Mark drives a John Cooper Works model to find answer that question.

Do you recommend the Cooper or the Cooper S?

Just traded in my 2020 and got a 2023 2 door S in Nubuq white with black roof and mirrors. I love this car and plan on keeping it for many years. It will be the last car I buy as I’m 72.

Im 72, and 6ft 2 tall. I fit really well. auto I don't care about rear seat passenger comfort, boot is good, sunroof doesn't intrude. Fantastic review. I will buy a new one in 2025 to see me out

    I have a 2017 Cooper manual, such a fun car, I’m upgrading to a Cooper S in 2023.

I’m 6 foot 6 but I don’t talk about it … lol … I completely get people asking if you can fit ergonomically it’s got so much adjustment in the drivers seat they are so easy to get comfortable in. The big 2.0 twin turbo engines old hat but I can see the appeal do the turbos whistle on that model my old countryman s did sounded alright for a four pot

Im 6:4 and own a f56 cooper S and i can say that for its class the cabin is very spacious and feels alot bigger then a polo or Audi A1,.

Trading in my 2020 Merc CLA for a new JCW Premium Plus in melting silver. Merc beautiful dash layout but so many issues with the electrics etc more in garage than with me. I’m nearly 50 quite ill atm and wanted something put smile on my face and on test drive in JCW I felt 18 again, stuff the interior space. Kids grew up need fun. Roll in September delivery 📦 😊😎🙏

Hey mate. They’re cheapies from Amazon. Screen glasses. Think they cost £7 from Amazon. 😂

I wish there would be a Mini subscription plan that allows me to get convertible mini electric on a Monday-Friday basis and JCW for the weekend. Seriously, Mini cabrio in total silence while enjoying Pro-Pain or Tool during the school run? Sign me in. This is my first on the list as a second car on the driveway after my family-friendly Enyaq to-be-replaced by R1T or Fisker Ocean.

I don’t agree about the flawless ergonomics… not with the switches which are invisible, or the gear lever which makes reverse too easy to select when you are going for first, or the hidden top of the speedo or the heavy clutch which is too far away

I want the new JCW should I wait for the next Gen? I owned a 2015 F56 Cooper S for 5 years.

You might be waiting 2 years for a next gen JCW and the current one is cracking. I say go for it. :-D Mark.

13:33 THANK YOU mate. for *** sake... if you live in the city/village you spend 60% shifting between 1-2-3 anyway. Manual? sure yeahh... it you are doing track days and you know what you are doing and you are not ordering heated seat to make your/my 40yo ass comfortable just to save 400g of weight. otherwise, order an automate and be chill and relaxed.

My next mini will be a 2019 countryman jcw all4 in a manual transmission. After that I'd probably go for the 2022 cooper jcw with manual transmission unless they release more combustion models with the manual. After 2025 though, I'll never buy a new mini.
