It's beautiful, was looking forward to seeing your review. This figure surprised me so much with how close it was to the animation as it seemed like it walked straight out of the anime. This would've HAD to be the best Dragon Ball Z release of 2023(-24).

This has been my most awaited figure for the year, specially cause i had always the awakening goku but could never get my hands on that for a decent price. So i was beyond happy when they showed this
The biggest fault of this figure is how fast it sold out. Tamashii should have line up re-issues immediately after the first batch sold out so that more people can get it. I had to resort to local retailers after it sold out instantly online, and just when it's released, my retailer said my pre-order was cancelled due to low stock, and offered me a outsourced one for a higher price. Safe to say I rejected that scam and asked for refund so that I could get it from Japanese auction sites at a higher price but at least it's not as ridiculously expensive (yet).
Damn this figure looks beautiful! The only thing that would've put it over the top is some shading on the skin but these are probably the best sculpted muscles I've seen on a Figuarts yet. Hope they keep this effort up with future releases as well, love that this Goku looks like he came straight out the anime! Thanks as always for the detailed review bro, really looking forward to messing around with this figure :)
If I have to nitpick, then the weakest part is probably the ankle range? I hope they find some way to improve on that. Otherwise, it's a really, really great figure, and it's made me even more excited for the inevitable updated base Goku. Hopefully, the faces on that will be just as accurate, and the necks will allow for face swapping between it and this figure. I appreciate that they've tried to work in backwards kicks a bit better compared to the Super Hero Gohan, but I honestly didn't mind too much either way, because the legs have far better outward range than the finicky 2.0 legs, which is more important to me. But good range every way is of course the best way to go. I know a Full Power Frieza is basically already on its way, to the point that they already basically said as much iirc. Personally, I hope we get an updated (slender) Final Form Frieza as well. He held up well for years, but was already was starting to look dated in recent times, but now, surrounded by all the other Friezas, the potential Full Power Frieza, the Mecha Frieza, Final Form Cooler, Meta-Cooler and possibly King Cold and 4th form Cooler in the near future, he's going to look really old.

The QC issues on Trunks are caused more so when it’s being assembled at the factory. The designer isn’t really at fault for loose legs and such unless it’s the actual figures design causing it. Also, just passing this info on the new Trunks is a 3.0. The numbers don’t tell if it’s the 1st, 2nd or 3rd release. It’s about the joint system. The new Trunks uses the 3.0 joint tech. This is meant to just be friendly information passed from one collector to another. Sometimes when I do this people take it as an attack. Have a good one bro!

Just got mine in too, and god damn this thing is a monster! The chest discoloration is not visible in person and I like to think I have pretty good eyes. I still gonna say Frieza 2nd form as FOTY, because I'm biased toward villains, but this Goku is dethroning Turles for 2nd place.

At last. A muscular Goku that fits with the anime... faces, muscles, proportion, articulation, sculpture. Perfect. It has details but they do not overshadow how well accomplished this Goku is.
Sculpt work sure is incredible, from the more angular sculpt to the ripped gi and bulkier sculpt. Face sculpts are amazing, yelling head takes the cake but I love that they made the eyes wider for the gritted teeth face & smile face, really makes it more expressive. Bang options too, whilst the main one is my favourite the others look great. I only wish his neck was a little taller, & the overall Goku being taller (idk why they changed that). For paints, absolutely love the shading on the gi but still disappointingly no shading on his skin when the Brolys, FP Jiren, Cooler, and Awakening Warrior ssj Goku show how good the figures look with it, add to that some minor discolouration too ain't great. The real sore thumb though is the incredibly shiny face, I hope in person that's less noticeable. Articulation looks good, upper body pretty much the same with ssj4 except the hinge in the shoulder is bigger and offers more range. The true highlight though is the softer crotch piece allowing his legs to finally move back again. Thigh cut though is worse but more seamless so tit-for-tat. Ankle articulation seems worse going forward than ssj4 but otherwise the same ankle rocker so I'm happy there. Provided the shininess of the face and body discolouration isn't too apparent this is probably the new best figuarts Goku beating out ssj4. I'd still say Turles is my favourite figure of the year but this guy is a strong number 2 potentially. Only wish these figure released worldwide same time, just got Orange Piccolo and this guy ain't coming until February.
Both looks are accurate it’s just one is earlier in the fight with frieza and the other (no shirt) is later on in the fight. The boots though are more accurate and the other is manga based (2.0). He’s such a lovely figure though!
Figure looks great, but to me its a little too bulky specially those huge shoulders and to looks even more strange, it looks like they have no neck and any head looks to small in that huge body and thick neck😂. I think not even base Broly have such bulky look. Anyway except those different skin colors all over the figure, it looks great. Great review mate, and thanks for showing us all those head swaps

Articulation is better than what I expected. Still not keen on the 3.0 crotch setup, but I'm glad we get *some* backwards movement in the legs. Plus, Goku finally gets good ankle articulation! The ball joints just felt dated, and Gohan didn't use them and was so much more fun to pose as a result. Keen to get mine in the next few days.
They changed the pelvis and hips of the 3.0 design when they shouldn’t have, though. SSJ4 Goku and Super Hero Gohan had the perfect engineering for those parts. Then Trunks came along and they changed it for that for that figure and it doesn’t work as well.
The ankles on this Goku are still the only 'issue' I have with the figure, if I can even call it an issue. The knot of his shoelace thingies kinda gets in the way.
It’s a OKAY figure. I just don’t like how overly buff it is. It makes the figure look kinda weird and a little awkward, but it’s honestly really cool and I’d probably just buy it to pose and that’s it.

You're not wrong. But this is not the first, we already got a few of them in the line on popular characters like Gotenks. (That's an extreme case.) The shiny chest is very much visible on the MUI Goku, and the shiny/oily face is noticeable on the 3.0 Krillin. Even SSJ4 has multiple different colors of red, but it's almost inconspicuous on camera. The finish could've been better, and any shading would've made it look more premium. (Those are the reasons I think that the Full Power Jiren and Dragon Ball Super Broly didn't have these aesthetic issues although the plastic colors are distinct.) We know modern Bandai, P-Bandai release or not - no shading unless it's an overpriced exclusive edition, and no matte finish until they randomly chose to pick a character and apply. The QC inconsistency in this line since 2019 or so is why I'm not invested in the line anymore. (I'm glad that this isn't a QC nightmare like the 3.0 Future Trunks. I'm waiting for my copy to arrive later this week, or the next.)
Actually all the hands are reused sculpts. They're based on the ones from Jiren which I think was the earliest figure that had them. Both super brolys, raditz, cooler, turles, 3.0 gohan, beast, ssj4 goku and more all had them. Although ssj4 vegeta and the new trunks have the slighly different open hands as well.
does it bother anyone else that bandai isn't matte coating their figures anymore? It's just a simple thing but that shine on the faces looks really bad and we shouldn't have to do it ourselves..

Sorry if this sounds dumb but ive never ordered anything online, how do some people get theirs before others? Does it just have to do with where it is being shipped? Cuz i kinda wanna order it but am unsure of when it would arrive.
I live in Japan so we get it a little earlier than other parts of the world. It’s usually Hong Kong, then Japan then the rest of the world. People buy from online import stores like AmiAmi which are based in Japan. So they ship when it releases here.
Sadly it's sold out on BBTS now, I pre ordered then thought about saving my $ and cancelled...I went back on that decision again and by a stroke of luck I pre ordered it again and it was 2 day's later last week it said "Sold out" I was like Damn!!! Im happy I went back on my word he's in the mail for me right now.
So the guy who was in charge of Future Trunks was in charge of this guy too and did decide to make Goku smaller than Trunks? that sucks, figure still great tho but damn that short neck really screw up the scale again
The unfortunate thing about using muscular figures like goku for muscular MUI and Tien, is the fact that they are using the 2.0 internal framework. The 2.0 for the chest is the same for almost all DB figuarts that involve wearing a gi. Which is unfortunate cause of having used some muscular conversation kits for a muscular goku or Grade 3 super saiyan trunks. Upon seeing the limitations of the 2.0 internal framework, I ditch the idea of using the 2.0 frame and used either barbock or Piccolo internal chest framework for the conversion. Since they both have slightly wider butterfly joints that give them broader shoulders.

Sorry if this sounds dumb but ive never ordered anything online, how do some people get theirs before others? Does it just have to do with where it is being shipped? Cuz i kinda wanna order it but am unsure of when it would arrive.
I live in Japan so we get it a little earlier than other parts of the world. It’s usually Hong Kong, then Japan then the rest of the world. People buy from online import stores like AmiAmi which are based in Japan. So they ship when it releases here.

The unfortunate thing about using muscular figures like goku for muscular MUI and Tien, is the fact that they are using the 2.0 internal framework. The 2.0 for the chest is the same for almost all DB figuarts that involve wearing a gi. Which is unfortunate cause of having used some muscular conversation kits for a muscular goku or Grade 3 super saiyan trunks. Upon seeing the limitations of the 2.0 internal framework, I ditch the idea of using the 2.0 frame and used either barbock or Piccolo internal chest framework for the conversion. Since they both have slightly wider butterfly joints that give them broader shoulders.
