Very good analysis. I’m from the West Indies and I too agree with everything said in this video. I was afraid that you weren’t going to cover the fact that players only want to play domestic tournaments for the big bucks, but you did an amazing job. Keep it up!

Greed? What the fuck you are smoking man? The players have bills to pay and ofcourse will pick up the team that pays them the most. Atmost the players can play till 35 and therefore they have to earn more money. Even for 10 percent hike creatures like you will run away from the current company to another company.

My opinion, they are too influenced by American culture. Players just in it for money and they think wearing gold chains, looking like a rapper and having an arrogant attitude is the pinnacle of achievement. As soon as a guy calls himself “Universe Boss” his head isn’t in the game anymore and many fans no longer want to see him do well.

WI players no longer play county cricket which was the nursery of the WI players for decades. The last two batsmen who played county cricket were Shiv and Lara and both averaged 50. Now, no WI batsman averages even close to 40.
The downfall started long before the 1990s. The WI production line stopped in the early 1990s and never found quality replacements for two strong openers, a wicketkeeper/batsman or even three fast bowlers who could think how to get batsmen out. There has been failed leadership on and off the field for the past 30 years with successive unyielding insular boards who chose poor captains. Bad attitudes and contention wirh the board also permeated the team especially over the past 25 years. Just my two cents worth.

Their priorties to league's finished the cricket in WI and also the politics and poor development in the Carribean along with their poverty.
Yet in the 1960-1992, they dominated Cricket as a whole. Still 1993-2006, their cricket wasn't bad, they made finals here and there and snuck in with a champions trophy in 2004.
Also during the 1996-2001 period, the continuous change of captains made WI succumb.
Lucky for them, the 2010-2016, their T20 Prime was dangerous... they ended up winning 2 T20I WCs!
After 2016 triumph, most West Indies players focused on the franchise leagues.
I suggest you to cover why Cricket doesn't have as many countries as a Football World Cup. 😢

Westindies went to the Final and lost to South Africa. Kaliis got 5 wickets and Philo Wallace got a hundred. Slight correction.I agree with , the windies players donot have the professionalism or the mindset to finish of games , when teams play against they realize that the windies are not going to fight it to the end , we just have to change this in our game and I know we can do it , its not a question of talent or skill , we just dont have that professional (stone cold killer attitude ), everything is lackadaisical.

There are two areas I think WI cricket team needs to improve on. What I find specifically is that West Indies cricket team are not able to produce world class bowlers like they did before. This is something the board needs to focus on. They also have many quality and hard hitting batsmen but all batters primarily focus on hitting big sixes which is the major problem. Not all balls can be hit for sixes. Batsmen need to know when to hit a four, six or take singles. This is how most WI batsmen are being tricked by opponents in international cricket. Forced to play big shots but ending up losing their wickets.

Viv might have been the greatest West Indian batsman of all time (either him, Hedley, Sobers or Lara), but no one argues he was the greatest of all time. Apart from a few fanatical Indian supporters everyone agrees that was Bradman.

I believe it would be tendulkar. Yes, Bradmans test average is incredible, but sachins overall style and exemplary performances in Odis as well make him a good “greatest batsman” candidate. Tbh tho I don’t think people who say Bradman is the greatest are wrong. It’s purely opinion based.

International Cricket sadly, currntly, is in a downward spiral, as larger ICC members keep most of the funds to themselves, the cricket in smaller nations will continue to degrade, and eventually die.

Money chasing in 20/20 leagues for sure... the point that wasn't touched on was so many Caribbean athletes going to American sports these days

  • @ahogg5960

You undersold how much the money aspect of cricket is hampering them. Many of the top players in the West Indies command much much higher play in the T20 leagues than they would playing for the the West Indies - so many choose not to. Chris Gayle could have continued playing Test cricket for the West Indies for a few more years but chose (and rightly so) to secure his financial future by getting paid millions on the T20 league circuit - more money than he probably ever made in his career for the West Indies.
Add to that, many young West Indians are being scouted by American colleges to play other sports (basketball, track and field, baseball or American football) where the money can be much, much more lucrative. So you don't have the next Lara, Ambrose, Richards or Walsh because those players have been lured to the USA to pursue sports over there.
Add to that, the WICB doesn't have the funds to secure the services of the best coaches, support staff, analysts or grounds staff. Without these, grass roots cricket at the level below the international circuit suffers as well.
And this isn't just solely a West Indian problem. Pakistan, South Africa, Zimbabwe and the associate nations below them also have the same issues. Which means there needs to be a better split of the money in world cricket to help them out. But that's just not going to happen with Australia, England and India bringing in most of the money with TV deals that they essentially keep for themselves.

Another Chris Gayle is not the answer. We need quality test players who can bat long and know how to make runs plus bowlers who can take wickets. Do that and you will be good in all three formats.

It is obvious that players are keeping an eye on league match tournaments. So, they do not get time to focus on international tournaments. So it's my sincere request to all the boards of cricket to stop such league matches.
