Mint compost? Can you tell us more please about why you used specific amendments? Thank you 😊
Mint compost is exactly what is sounds like - compost that has incorporated mint as part of the composting process. The compost provides nutrition, but also helps repel insects. Aged cow manure and bone meal provide organic nutrition to the rose over time and build soil health. Bone meal specifically contains phosphorus, which is the "P" in N-P-K, which is listed in a fertilizer's labeled numeric value (e.g., 10-10-10). Nitrogen promotes good leaves and upper growth, phosphorus promotes strong root growth, and potassium (the "K") helps keep the plant health but can also aid in some flower/fruit production.

Cocoa loco rose looks very "antique or vintage-like".
Very unique and would suit other softer whites and subdued pastels, with other foliage.
Like the way you have considered the size from shortest to tallest and shade from each rose. Very clever idea.
I'm sure they will be extremely happy with the nutritious soil.....adding that the soil holds water well gives them an even better start.

Deer devour my roses. I have kept six, three and three together which makes it easier to spray or cover with netting. Unfortunately, we have great weather for roses, and I cannot take advantage of that simply because of the animal life. Much good luck with your heirloom roses.
The Impatient Gardener sprays Liquid Fence for deer, but I know that’s a pain.

Your rose selection is beautiful! I love roses but do hate the thorns. However, we have a terrible Japanese beetle problem. This year I did use a product that you pour around the base of the rose just when it starts to come back in the spring - I’ll see how well it works.

There’s no plastic/tarps in the bed. The tarps were removed after the grass was killed off and then wood chips were added.

I enjoy your videos so much and learn a lot. Your roses are stunning. I gave up on roses a few years ago because I had a lot of problems with Japanese beetles. Do you have problems with that pest and if you do what is your solution to keep them from eating the plants.
I did not have significant Japanese beetle issues at the old home. I’m not sure what this new home will bring. From what I’ve seen there are no good ways to control them organically at this time. There are inorganic treatments available, but they generally harm all insects, including the good ones.

GreatGardenPlants.com doesn’t appear to carry it, but I’ve also ordered from NewGardenPlants.com once before. The plants may be smaller, but they were healthy when I got them and the prices are reasonable. I ordered Geum and hosta there two years ago and probably a few other things.
