- Watch a collection of phenomenal wave rides by world bodyboarding champions Pierre-Louis Costes, Joana Schenker, Ayaka Suzuki, Amaury Lavernhe, and Claudia Ferrari.
Pierre-Louis Costes is one of the most popular and influential professional bodyboarders of the 21st century.
The French won his first world title, aged 21, going into the last event at El Frontón in contention with his idols Jeff Hubbard, Ryan Hardy, and Guilherme Tâmega.
Joana Schenker is the queen of European bodyboarding.
Schenker won four back-to-back European Tour of Bodyboard (ETB) titles (2014-2017) and seven consecutive national titles (2014-2020).
Ayaka Suzuki was one of the first Japanese female bodyboarders to make it to the world stage.
Despite all the challenges Suzuki faced to compete at a world-class level, the long path to glory culminated with an unprecedented and historic world title in 2018.
Amaury Lavernhe is one of the most well-rounded professional bodyboarders in competitive history.
He won two world titles (2010 and 2014) and also runs the Amaury Academy around the world.
Claudia Ferrari was one of the first women to own and ride a bodyboard in Brazil.
She won the GOB World Tour in 1995, the Women's Pipeline Pro in 2007, and the USBA Tour in 2008.
The waves ridden in this compilation were shot in Hawaii, Mexico, Portugal, Texas, the Canary Islands, and several other locations.
There's also an extra wave pool section by drop-knee pioneer Jay Reale.

I am a 55-year-old bodyboarder I started when I was 12, I remember what made me want to sell my skateboard to buy a bodyboard... It was the ads for Morey Boogie on surfing magazine around the late '70s. The rider on those pictures? Jack "the ripper" Lindholm. He rode the biggest Pipeline monsters on a board that many of us today would consider totally inferior to today's high-tech equipment ( I'm riding a Snyper these days) In 1985 left Puerto Rico and I joined the US Coast Guard to become a Rescue Swimmer. Lucky for me I got stationed in Hawaii and once had the privilege to surf with Jack the Ripper at a break called Pyramid Rock at the marine base in Kaneohe, the waves were some of the heaviest I have ever surfed, but Jack destroyed every single monster that popped out of the depths...
Back then, McDonald's Hawaii Kai drilled holes in the serving trays to keep from being taken to Sandys and Makapuu. Went to grade school w/Jack not knowing he would turn intonJack 'the ripper' at Pipeline.
Yep great story I'm of similar age body boarded in oz saw a TV show called, just for the record about Mike Stewart surfing pipe and the championships he had won and it inspired me to bodyboard and years later I met him on a signature visit at a local surf shop he still in my opinion is the goat of the sport nobody has done more for the sport...
I have issues of Bodyboarding mags from the late 80s early 90s Lindholm, dropknee, cover shot, arms outstretched barreled and an ear to ear smile!
Awesome story 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
When I replied to the video …I was like wow no mention of Mike Stewart ..lol.. definitely shows that a big chunk of time has passed😆🤙🏽🤣
They had their moments in different times of the evolution of bodyboarding.I started in mid seventies when they just had the kit and it had to be put together yourself.I went to high school with Jack lindholme in Honolulu ,went to the beach many times in
"Sassafras" his van.He was the most humble person,he would drop knee the biggest and nastiest pipe had to offer
with style and grace equal to Jerry Lopez.Another fearless big wave charger of that time was Daniel
(Kaniala) Kaimi who was the only boogie boarder who reguarly show up when the Bay would break,he was also known for his 360 spinners. There is those who do them and then there are those who do them in the right place at the right time, with flow, that was Kaniala, then there was the Haole boys from Sandy Beach Pat Caldwell and Ben Severson. Also coming up a few years behind was Kainoa Magee and Fred Santos, then there was this Haole boy from Kona who showed up and the rest is history,Mike's the best of all time in my opinion because he came around at the right time and put boogieboarding on the map,and thats
when it took off and Mike had a big part in it.Thats why I consider him the greatest.I am proud to have known and been friends with every one of
them. Thanks for letting me share my manao from the 808,aloha.
P.s. "Old Guys Rule"
Sheeeeesh
Was that a lie?
To much
You forgot to mention that Daniel Kaimi had the best collection of Hendrix in his car of anyone you would ever know.
Ryan Hardy, Mitch Rawlins, Pierre Louis Costes all have textbook perfect style
Dieguito Cabrera is MAD!! Pure style ! From Canary Islands, North Afric
Started bodyboarding Walls Waikiki over a decade ago and have been hooked ever since, It feels like flying. I used to be a slow chubby kid, so going fast was a totally new and exhilarating experience. Thats probably one of the reasons I love rollercoasters and cars so much...on top of having Adhd and the tism.
Eppo, Mike, Ryan Hardy, Jacob Romero, Andrew Botha, Ben Holland, Hubb, GT... ☺
You're right. They've been contacted, but not all have replied, and not all have clips they can share.
@@surfertoday ah.. Makes sense! Keep it up 🤙
1:40, that was rad connection!
As an old guy, I have to agree Stewart was the man!
Keith Sasaki???
Stewart has set the standard from 80's till about 2000 knows pipe so we'll, its crazy to watch his old footage he was so far ahead if everyone else just flow with the wave, later guys like Jeff hubbard, ryan hardy, andre Botha, ghillereme tamega started catching up, but even all the pro surfers know and respect mike Stewart
im 14, and i LOVE bodyboarding so much. but i would cry if i was near some of these waves 😭
You will learn how to handle them buddy :)
You’ll learn to love them haha
Bodyboarding , Great experience, hopping on air 👌🏻😅💯
Jay's prone riding is super sick! great vid-THX!
I loved watching this!
Excellent, thanks for posting this!
Ohhhh! That's the first time I've seen bodyboarding since it was all the craze in my high school years in the 90's and all my mates and I would go bodyboarding every weekend!
This is the first time I thought to search it on utube - and this is the very first video I got.
It. Was. *AWESOME!!* 🤟😆🤘
Interesting.
Melhor vídeo de body board q vi nos últimos tempos.completo !!!
PURE. SURF.
Idk about greatest...but if there is a great it’s hands down Mike Stewart☝🏽
I Second that! Mike Flows the best and appears to be so connected to the ocean! My childhood idol growing up in Huntington beach.
Seen mike barrel roll pipe at 10ft😪
I agree but the greatest in competition to me is GT(Guilherme Tâmega). He was unbeatable in his prime and he was the guy that dethroned Mike Stewart and make the game different by putting on aggressiveness in his manouvers.
Yup funny mike Stewart. Ben severson. Kainoa mcgee. Gt. Kauai classis and the rest of the first genetation bodyboardets not. Mentioned.
@@papiofisher thats what was my point but after I then realized that’s the new generation 🤣I guess I’m getting old
This was rad, make more "Greatest Bodyboarders" edits.
Definitely the Hubbs, Mike Stewart, Ryan Hardy and etc.
I was waiting for more of the old timers too... Jack Lindholm, Pat Caldwell, Ben Severson, Kainoa,
Jacob, Sasaki, Botha.... And the G.O.A.T Mike.
This is just volume 1?
@@AMOKIAN and Guilherme 6x WC Tamega.
Tamega was the hardest charger !
Mike Stewart. But all pros that hit the lip like Tamega did deserve respect. Alistair, Ben, Hardballs, and me. Still pullin in at 51.

Excellent surfing performance congratulations to all wonderful surfers 👌👌👌
Awesome,,,,,,,,i have always like boogie boarding more than surfing,,, i used to live i Mexico in the 70's, we would go to San Blas,,,,,most went for the long surf,,, i went for the short boogie board breaks, i would come flying off huge waves,, the Mexicans heads would be ducking everywhere when i came flying by,,,, i got some good sand burns,,,, but man is this FUN,,,,,,,,thinking about going to Escondido this winter,,,,,,, 61 now,, Lord i hope i dont drown,,, naw,,,, i'm in pretty good shape,,, we will see
You’ll be alright big dog, go have some fun
Greatest of all time?? Where's Ryan hardy, Damian king,Mike Stewart, Sean virtue,Mitch Rawlins, jeff and Dave Hubbard,Guilherme tamega, Ben and Toby player,Dave Winchester,Lilly Pollard, kira llewellyn,Andre Botha, Michael eppelstun?? Plenty more I've missed. So glad I grew up as a grom in the golden age of bodyboarding
All these names bring back so many good memories
It’s not a list without any of these names on it
My son goes to the same school as Chris white’s son so I see him all the time
So glad to be a grom in that time period as well
“The source” vid with the teauhpoo competition is up there with one of my all time faves
this looks so cool
Mike Stewart is a legend. Kalani Robb is a straight up GOD on boogies and beater boards.
god, lol, calm down
Some sick moves in here!
But why isn't Mike, Tamega, Eppo, Kainoa, Danny, Ben Severson...my list can go on & is personally biased haha but surely some of those names are in the GREAT catalogue🤔 anyway, I enjoyed the content. Sending sick pits your way from New Zealand✌
They've been contacted - some of them have not replied, and some of them haven't got clips they can share.
@@surfertoday Hardy is always keen to share the froth, hit him up on instagram
Great mix! Can't wait for more, maybe an exclusive DK one down the track to?
Looking forward to Vol 2, thank you.
un truc de malade est il fait fort ce mec
This makes me wish i didn't live in a cold country 50 miles from the coast
Im45now, still love and practicing it till i die. 🌊
Pat cadwell, ben sevenson, mike Stewart i remember those three kings of bodyboard
Never bodyboarded, only grew up surfing and the BB where I was were not hardcore. My favorite out of these rippers is Ayaka Suzukie.
Nice.
Ive been in a tube the rip curl....its cool
Mike, Tamega and me lol. 53 and still hittin the lip.
So rad !!!
Excelente trabajo 👍👍 Rock and Roll High School ll ZONA VIP A-1 saludos cordiales AQP-PERU
Happy 50th to the bodyboard!
"Greatest" video but missing pretty much all the greats.
Have you read the video's description?
Hah! Used to belly surf shore breaks, no board, just swim into it and go for it, like sea mammals do :) There's nothing like it. Brutal workout. I got old, enjoy it while you can. Cheers!
I only bodysurf. I love the freedom of swimming, I find surf boards too bulky and annoying.
Nothing quite like pockets full of sand, lol.@@tonyblast4592
Jp Peterson, Alexandre Pontes, Paulo Esteves, Kiko Herbert, Mariana Nogueira, Kainoa McGee, Ben Severson, etc
Leave it to Stoker!!!🤙
Mike Stewart, Hubbard, Tamega, Kainoa... man, soooo many of the greatests are not here!
Good surfing
no mike stewart, no jeff hubbard, no ryan hardy , you guys really need to communicate with an actual bodyboarder or a videographer that actually is involved with the sport to showcase the best tallent
Perfectly stated. Mike and Ben pioneered breaks before these riders were out of diapers. Reeves, Lindholm, Sasaki and other spongers followed close behind LONG before the "Greatest Bodyboarders of all time" ever set foot in the ocean.
No Isabela Sousa :(
Have you read the video's title? Have you read the description? It's Volume 1. We've sent the names you mention, and many others, a few messages inviting them to send clips for this highlight reel. We plan to release more videos as we receive more clips. All riders in this video were kind enough to send us the clips - more will follow.
@@surfertoday ahhhhh you got me there , I totally didn’t see the volume 1 , my bad , I’ll take that one on the chin . Thanks
@@progressionsessions99 No worries. Stay safe. 😉
My personal list:

How do I get started?
I miss catching waves
Fantastic video-and music! Who's the artist?
Oops-I see now that it's in the description.
I'm looking at buying a new bodyboard mines old whats some of best bodyboards?
I'm riding a couple of Hubboards currently, super rad! Hardy's range is killer as well, NMD make good boards, the list goes on bro, depends on your climate and waves you wanna tackle.
Belle initiative mais a ce ryhme la, il va falloir BEAUCOUP de volets pour vraiment faire le tour beaucoup de gros noms a venir j’espere (ps : si Mc Gee n’est pas la, vous aurez echoué ‘imho’) 🤙
I thought the ender was Barney... East Coast Aussie Legend
The greatest was to watch Jeff Hubbard in zicatela Puerto Escondido Oaxaca
Where is that
They're not bodyboards, they're boogie boards! Boogi-gee boards! boogie boards. Gawd.

can i get my section on the next vid??
Is it safe to go out quite deep when there are rip tides?
they have fins and are most likely strong swimmers
pierre is in another level
I need to get some flippers…
Bodyboarders can do some AWSOME manoeuvres just as good if not Better than surfers. The theme music accompanying the upload pretty good too thanks.
Of course bodyboarders moves are better than surfers.. who are you kidding?
@Aquatic Mullet "you're"..
@Aquatic Mullet oh, the irony.
The only thing sponges are better at than surfers is....
Nothing kook! Anyone can just lay down on a sponge and catch a wave. Whatever helps you sleep at night quitters.
@@danzo4354 😂🤣😂 yeah? Well First things First, this so called ‘Kook’ as you put it… has been surfing for 30 years. Probably longer than you’ve been on the face of this earth👈 🤣😂🤣😬
Roberts, Houston, Mcarthy
These are all dangerous as I have done bodyboarding before but still be carful when riding waves
А лобковая кость не отбивается при падении?
Seeing Ayaka destroy Padang Padang is something else! Tiny chick, massive airs!
Wheres Mike Stewart ????
In order to be great you need to do more then ride one style.
1. Prone, 2. Drop Knee, 3. Stand Up Boogie, 4. Switch, 5. Barrel ridding, 6. Air's, 7. Groveling, 8. Big Wave Riding, 9. Skimming.
If you only ride one style you ain't as good as you think you are.
.
One Team
👊😎
Man I haven't seen much escape the barrel
Matthieu Walbrou, Nicolas Capdeville
Mike Stewart =GOAT
GT o melhor de todos. Depois vem o resto.

Jeff Hubbard
Need to change the title to…One great body boarder, one good body boarder, one chick who’s really good for a chick, one chick who’s pretty good for a chick, and one old guy.

Have you read the video's title? It's Volume 1. We sent Mike Stewart, Pat Caldwell, and many others a few messages inviting them to send clips for this highlight reel. We plan to release more videos as we receive more clips. All riders in this video were kind enough to send us the clips - more will follow.
Ahhh, mike Stewart?
Amazing clips! The title, however, should be "greatest *modern* bodyboarders", as boarding is a traditional practice that predates modern video technologies. In reality, we really have no idea how many greats there have been or what they accomplished. Hopefully they would approve of these modern greats!
Mike is the GOAT without a doubt
Hauoli Reeves?
Why they no stand up on feet
Don't know about best of all time. Don't know or heard of any of them. Nice video just change title. Avagud1
Daniel Kaimi or Jack"the ripper"Lindholm. Oahu
