    I always use a tee on Par3's, with the tee poking up perhaps 1mm above the grass. But if I'm playing on a dewy morning I tee it up just a little higher so that I don't pick up too much moisture from the grass as I come into the Ball and get a Spin killer.

Are most player more accurate stepping on/deloft the higher lofted club or choking down/ball moved up/smooth swinging the lowered lofted club? My dad taught me to always tee it up when you can. It's the only time you're guaranteed a perfect lie. Tee it right down for a normal shot and with the top of the tee showing to take a bit off the shot for the exact reason you mentioned. Less mass a bit more loft.

  • @pdxwilliam
    @pdxwilliam Před 3 lety +1

    A tip for some of you out there is to play with tee height. If I am between clubs I will take a bit off by teeing the ball up a bit so I can hit it a few mm higher on the face. Similarly if I have wind on my back and I want to add some dynamic loft, than this works as well.

    Nice. How about a 'Shaft Length' video? Give Matt -1/2", STD, +1/2" and +1" irons, with the proper lie angles (and swing weights?) and see what happens with his ball flight? Should show the value of a proper length fitting?

    • @ImanoffGolf
      @ImanoffGolf Před 4 lety +4

      Would love to see this too. Will a half inch longer or shorter really affect a swing? Also, a bit upright or flat could affect the swing as well?

    • @edgamblejr
      @edgamblejr Před 4 lety

      Personally, I'd be static fitted to +1/4". Given the same swing weight, I can't imagine that it could matter what with the unevenness in a course's fairways, rough, bunkers, ... You get fit for STD or +1/2" (from the shaft wall) and then buy a build at +1/4" - does that matter?

    • @dylangray6931
      @dylangray6931 Před 3 lety

      Fitting definitely impacted my game. I was playing stock irons, everything standard. I am a lanky 6'2 just a hair under 6'3. Decided at next upgrade to pay for a professional fitting. What a difference. Fitter found I needed extra length and more upright lie angle for my irons (unsurprisingly given my build). My swing became more upright, the times I topped the ball all but went away, and on level ground shots a lot of stuff that tended to drift off to the side started straightening out. If you're an above or below average height/proportioned, getting fitted makes a big difference IMHO, but you'll have zero excuse for blaming your equipment anymore! :p

    Interesting vid! When I hit a 6 iron shot well off the fairway vs. a well struck “perfect lie” tee’d up par 3 shot, it’s the same result. To me it depends on turf conditions. Some well manicured tee boxes allow the ball to kind of “perch” up on low cut stiff blades of grass. Hit the ball well and then it won’t matter…haha. See, golf is easy!

    Many years ago I was part of a small group of folks taking a lesson from a pro named Gary Player. When asked he said in his somewhat abrasive way "Why would you not give yourself the advantage of a consistently perfect lie when striking the ball with an iron." He then proceeded to show us how to tee it (low) and made two hits 1 with a tee, 1 from ground. Without a shred of doubt the answer has been clear to me ever since, but if you can answer the question of teeing up for an iron any better then Gary I would like to hear it.

    My uncle does the super high tee thing and still manages to thin it. 😂
    I've always used tee height to impact launch, spin, and shape. If I want a draw i'll tend to tee it a tiny bit higher than normal and sweep it a little more from the inside. The opposite for a cut; lower tee height and a more neutral path.
