    Applies to every hole on approach. I recently started planning my tournament rounds this way and it helped eliminate blowups. At hcp 18, finishing with the same ball you started equals a win.

      That is so great to hear. Most golfers will say well I’m not good enough to have a strategy I don’t know where I hit it. My response to them is that’s the reason why you’re not as good as you want is because you don’t have a strategy you have to have some form of plan to be able to follow so that you can start to drop more shots by taking away the blowup holes. Keep up the great work.

    Another measurement I would have taken but I didnt see here, was how far it is to carry the water. I would have then taken a club that would go that distance as it does present the widest area of green on the whole dispersion wise. That way if I do pull it slightly the club should still carry the water and leave me between the water and bunker or just in that back bunker which would give me a sand shot away from the water that I could get on the green and 2 putt from there.

    • @Coach_WillRobins_PGA
      @Coach_WillRobins_PGA Před 2 měsíci

      Totally agree that you should always pick a target from the flag to the back of the green when there’s water in the front so even your miss will carry. The water on this hole though is to the left of the target so there is no actual carry here, but as we said, hitting it to the back right corner, is the mess avoiding all the trouble.

    Great stuff! Where can we find dispersion statistics for different handicaps and distances?

    • @Coach_WillRobins_PGA
      @Coach_WillRobins_PGA Před 2 měsíci +1

      One of the best stats that I can share with you is the focus of covering 90% of the shot in one. What I mean by that is if you have 150 yard golf shot you wanna be able to hit this shot with inside of 15 yards of the hole, so 45 feet, if you use the basic math, it’ll really help you to start to understand what a good shot is and how much risk you should be taking. A PGA TOUR player covers 95% of the shot so from 150 they’re expecting to hit it inside of 7 1/2 paces so 23feet. This will allow you to have almost all the stats you need writing your fingertips when playing golf.

    For anyone trying to break 90, a bogey on a par 3 is a great score. A 4 is 1 under 5 and an average of 5 for 18 holes is 90.

    • @thescoringmethod
      @thescoringmethod  Před 2 měsíci

      Michael, you are so spot on it’s simple math that is destroyed when we add ego pride and high expectations and with that recipe we can turn an 85 into a 105.

    • @trondgjertsen8765
      @trondgjertsen8765 Před 2 měsíci

      Sure one should be satisfied with 4 on a par 3, but the rest of your statement is clearly not correct... If we are supposed to follow your logic then a 5 on a par 5 is just an average score when trying to break 90... if you look at stats then par 5's are where the 20 hcs lose most compared to par... which is of course because there is more shots.

      Just keep it short of the bunkers, pitch it on and 2 putt. Where can you not go? Left right or long. Where can you go, short. It's always the same principles

      Great to hear that you’re enjoying the videos. I can be sure to continue on with the par three info on how to play the most successfully. I think the key thing for anybody who’s an 18 handicap is to realize that part threes are actually part force, and all you need to do is avoid the bunkers get on the green and into 2 putt . Make your bogey for a net 3.
      Most people using their handicap at the end of the round, rather than each hole to remind them not to play aggressive and use the shot. They have on the hole to help them make net par.

      That put a big smile on my face. This game can be extremely frustrating but truly if you take the plan to play that this is a powerful for you as you get a stroke on the hole all you need to do is keep the ball dry on this hole you’ll be inside of 50 yards of the green pitch onto the middle of the green two part and you’ve got yourself a bogey, now we just gotta show you how to repeat that 18 times so you can start shooting 90 or lower.

    • @johnnorth9514
      @johnnorth9514 Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks Will, excellent advice. Unfortunately, 30-50 yards is my least favourite distance, about 10% chance of hitting green from there. Perhaps 2 full wedges is the way to go; prefer to be approaching from 90 yds than 50.

      Great, Will, will await that. My problem is an inability to control club head height at the bottom of the arc, so about 70% fat and 25% thin (after several perfect practice swings) so no chance of controlling distance. This is the same for all clubs from driver to sand wedge. Cheers!

    Son took up golf 9 months ago, built a simulator running GC3 and I now know all about GIR numbers as he can hit better than pga GIR. He just turned 16 and carries his 46 degrees blade PW 140-160 at 2600 feet elevation. What he hasn’t learned is how to hit 80 yard shots. He jokes with me now that winter is over, and he can finally play a real round, he can easily get on at 194 yards and then fats a 80 yard shot. Golf is such a hard sport, and especially for mere mortals like myself, who doesn’t come close to pga GIR numbers. My coaching to him is golf is not about your best holes, it is about your worse holes. At best, you get an eagle, at worst: infinity. His last 3 rounds he got an eagle and had two just lip out, but all three rounds he shot over 80. Today, he worked on 100 and under, tomorrow: putting.

      That is some serious power, but as he starting to learn, now it’s all about getting the ball in the hole in the shots that means hitting the ball closer and making more putts. I have all of my high school players using The Scoring Method and is transformational to see how much confidence they gain once the scorecard is in the hand and they’ve been shown how to keep the ball in play and score.

    • @thescoringmethod
      @thescoringmethod  Před 2 měsíci +2

      I would say yes if you’re able to hit a consistent draw with a miss that’s a push right and now a hook left. You have to be able to take out one side of the course and on this hole that is left.

    Covering 90% of a shot seems like a very high bar for an average golfer. In the video, it appears like you tell the 20 handicap to expect to cover 80% of the shot while the 10 handicap should cover 87% of the shot. Am I understanding this correctly?

Do you remember the initiative from the PGA of America called “ play it forward” that was actually meant to be called the tour experience.
