  • Anna Chan started making sculptures out of sand and seashells at the beach as a way to pass the time during the pandemic. Now, it’s become an artistic passion.

How on earth does she stabilize the sand?

Beautiful work! What do you use to hold the sand in place permanently?

I live on the Gulf of Mexico, in Florida. Every summer my husband and I, plus our adult children go to a beach house, in different places. Some seashells are only found on the Atlantic, some on the Gulf, etc…I always collect beautiful shells, as I’m a resin artist. I haven’t fallen in love with anything, to commit my shells to, UNTIL this! I’ve watched hundreds of videos, maybe even a thousand, but nothing inspired me, like this! I’m in love w/ this idea, and I can’t wait to go through my shells, and separate them. Like I said, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I didn’t separate them. I didn’t know if I wanted to go by species, color, or size. We just got back 3 weeks ago from our last trip, and being an artist, I have so many supplies, and my husband has begged me to organize the shells. 😅 I can finally sit down and tackle my biggest project thus far! It will probably take me 2-3 months to even go through the thousands of shells, but that will give me plenty of time think about designs, and experimenting on sand and resin. I’m so excited!!!!

Sand is such a beautiful medium and seeing seashells in it is so naturally creative, organic and graceful. Life is a jewel of love. Great vid!
