    Crimps work good for splicing rolls of wire together, very clean look. When you need to wrap a wire around a post a simple way to do to it is a Gripple T Clip.

      Thanks Cliff. Since it's the first thing you see when you roll up to our property, we really are glad we did it ourselves. Now we have 3 more sides to do.....but not as many posts! =)

      @@PineyGroveHomestead Just something satisfying about doing it yourself. We have 5 1/2 acres in Indiana. The property is a lot for me to take care of but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I built my own garden beds and everything I grew this year was started from seed -- it is just means so much to step back and say I planted that or I built that. I retired from my first job and only work three days a week and tell my wife I have to go to work to get some rest :) but I love it!! Keep working hard, the results are worth it!
      God Bless

      @@cliff5240 I complain a little when I do long days on the farm, but honestly I'd rather do 10 hours on the tractor than 8 hours behind the desk for the Navy!

    Looks good.👍 i did the same thing you did several months ago .About 500ft, just like yours but added 4 four board to all of it. I still have to do about 1500 more ft, but waiting until after we move in. You become pretty good at it after you do it a few times. Lol . It was hard work but there is a sense of pride that you built it.

      We're going to 4 rail the funnel....bought the wood over 2 years ago....just haven't gotten to it. We did another large section of the property this winter that starts on Episode 46. And yes, hard work...that's why you can't get anybody to do it at any price!! Thanks for watching. B&D

    You guys did a really fine job on the fence! I haven't done mine yet. I keep putting it off because I don't have all the tools and I'm trying to find an auger to rent or borrow. I need to get it done soon though! I love your property! Thanks for sharing, folks! :)

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  Před 2 lety

      I bought that auger from Titan (palletforks.com) delivered to my door and we've put in 120 posts so far with it. The cutting point is worn off as you'll see in upcoming videos, so I have to get that welded and hardened. Thanks for watching and stay tuned as the new side fence build videos start publishing next week! Brad&Deb

  • @tractortalkwithgary1271

    Was this really your first time building fence? You guys made that fence look professionally done. Great job.
    By going with 8 inch posts every 8 feet , that fence will outlast you guys. I like to overbuild stuff. I hate doing things twice.

      We've done some projects around our house (chain link) and helping friends with privacy fence but that's our first farm fence. Honestly, we were trying to buy our way out of the project, but we couldn't find anyone to build it and we wanted some front security! We just finished 700' down the side and we've got some more enhancements coming to the front area; hopefully in 2022! Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

    Two more questions and I’ll leave you alone. (Your channel btw has been very helpful for people with property like this)
    1. What gauge wire did you use on your H braces?
    2. Did you put anything in the ground for those small and fat corner supports to prevent the leaning? I am having a little leaning on my corner posts as well. 16:00

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  Před rokem

      I don't know the gauge of the wire for bracing, but the farm store calls it "bracing wire". Probably right at 1/8 in diameter. I wish we were doing YT when we put that fence up. If you are talking about those kickstand short supports, we pulled the post away from the lean with a come-along attached to the tractor, then cut a short post and put it in at an angle buried about 1'. We wedged it in and then bolted it in place with through bolts. Those corners never moved after that. In hindsight we would have used H-braces. • @charlotteboyett-napper257

    I appreciate this video!! We are planning a fence like this around our 5 acres. I want to use a combo of wood posts and t posts with sheep and goat woven wire. I’m trying to figure out how far apart to space them.

    You should be proud, the fence looks awesome and you guys did a great job. I'm fixing to take down a fence here at my property. I have to pull 50 4x4 post up and I'm not looking forward to it. I enjoyed your pond videos as well. I don't know if you're interested but here is a pond build from over near my area in south Alabama in Baldwin county. The guy is an engineer I think and he's documented his build. Plus there's ducks, deer, owls, back yard garden ponds with fish, huge aquariums and their cute little baby girl. Plus some neat fish feeding you may enjoy. I don't know the guy but I just really liked his pond build. czcams.com/users/BamaBassOfficialvideos

      Thanks Wade. I wish we took video when Deb and I pulled out the T-posts from the old front fence. She would hook up the chain and I would use the L3800 FEL to lift it them out....many of them would raise the back tires off the ground and the post didn't budge. I'd have to creep forward and backwards with upward pressure to work it out....that red clay when dry is literally solid as concrete! I have some T-posts that are actually embedded in oak and cherry roots...they ain't coming out! I saw that 5 acre bass pond build.....awesome and definitely done right. Thanks for watching!
