I think this is the simplest method on bracing the corner post I have seen so far. I have been hesitating with my fence project because of not exactly understanding how to do bracing on the posts. I get it now. Thank you for sharing!
You are welcome
For people who have lived in the country all/most of their lives, fence building is something you learn early. Some people where never that fortunate. Thanks to video's like this one and others here on DSH, it gives them the chance to learn how to do the every day things that others take for granted. Love your videos, keep up the good work!
@Growing Texas I agree with you, that those of us who were raised in the country (especially if we came from a generational farm), learned from an early age about fence building. Unfortunately, (IMHO), the ways to build those fences are numerous. And we all are convinced that the way we each were taught, is the "right way". I am no different.😁 Lately I have been watching a lot of these types of videos on fencing. Just for fun. I'm retired & haven't built a fence in a couple of decades. But some of the ways & ideas most of the people who are making videos such as this one... well, they boggle this old man's mind. Some of the things I can relate to, such as holes that are four foot deep. But then there are other things, such as people's insistence on using concrete in the holes...🤯😁😁
@@willhorting5317gimme that family farm, the govt gonna take it from yeh anyways
Hearing the wire tighten up with the crowbar is so satisfying.
Nice tip with a crowbar to tighten up the wire thanks for sharing
Easily the best H bracing video I have seen so far!
I came to Deep South Homestead to watch how Danny did hid corner posts. His work is always like a pro and now mine look like a pro also. Thanks Danny and Wanda for always a good show!
Great instructional video showing proper fence post brace installation using simple tools.
I always learn the most practical stuff for our property endeavours, from you and Wanda. I've read about how to fence, but seeing it done, adds a whole new dimension. Like, "yeah, I can do that".
Thank you for sharing a easier way to stretch the wire
This looks like one of the most simplistic and efficient methods I've ever seen with no 'jaw-breaking' twisting center wires with a pipe or wood stob! THANK YOU for sharing the experience. I will be applying on our little ranch here in NorCal Sierra foothills to keep cattle in!
So glad that you share these fence building skills. It's truly something so many people don't know and it's so necessary for the farm or homestead! Thank you (and good job on the camera AND passing the staples Wanda!)
I appreciate the knowledge you're sharing. One of the issues I have been worrying about on my "corner post project" is the issue of barbed wire. I've never seen "slick" wire before so I guess I'm going to have to make a trip to my farm service store. Fortunately I've got a heavy hammer, crowbar and know where to buy staples. So now I've just got to get started.
I've tried both ways and I believe this is by far the best way to brace a corner post. Keep 'em coming and I'll keep trying them. Thanks
I nearly always had to work alone. It is good to see things that are done by just one person
Now that is how you do it the frugal way. Great technique. Thanks.
I learn something from all your videos I have watched. Thank you very much.
still one of my favorite videos. this is how I found deep south homestead. just now digging holes for h posts. lots of clay and rock so using rock bar and going few inches at at time
with putting water in hole to help some. Not fast but trying to enjoy the journey in cooler weather now. thank you for instructions . carl
Excellent training video, a lot of lost skill in our days we live, bless you for sharing
Our corners are pipe but this video was great timing. We will use this for our wood post on our garden fence! Thanks!
We always use a stick, and sometimes the wire will even break doing it that way. We're gonna give your way a try and see how we like it. None of us should ever be so stuck in our ways that we refuse to try something differently.... that's the only way to really grow and gain skills with anything in life! Thanks for sharing! 🙄
I'll use this to fence in my garden, as soon as the ground thaws out! Thank you.
We always twisted ours and never had anything come loose, but I also like this method. Thanks for posting
Great idea using the crowbar. I’ll be fencing in a garden next spring and will definitely use these tips. 👍
Thank you for this practical and useful information!
Nice job, Danny. I am learning so much from you.
Good Man! It is Men like this that I have deep respect. Sharing his knowledge with others.
Thank you Danny and Wanda!
Great info! to save for when we start our fencing on the homestead! thanks for sharing this.
I enjoyed watching this simply because it reminded me of when I was a young tomboy girl helping my daddy build fences. For corners, he got hold of some used railroad ties for free and would always "lay a deadman". Working on the farm with my daddy, way back when, was good times! I learned so much valuable stuff until I had to go to school and sit closed up in a box of a room all day learning literature, algebra, speech, shorthand, worthless stuff I've never used.
Great video. This is a lot easier, using the crowbar, than many fence bracing techniques I've seen. This will be quite the asset to me!
Great information! The crow bar is genius.
Good info. Good views of examples with close in views on 2nd side. Thank you.
I'm 70 yo and I learned some new techniques in this video. Thanks, Danny.
U show that u r an expert no drills an machines, only you, Hamer, nails and wood. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing this. I tried your method today and it worked GREAT!
Thank you for taking time out to teach. Enjoyed video and will admit, you taught me something. I agree, I DO NOT like the twisting concept, it works but it can come undone.
Thinking of doing some fencing myself. Thanks for the help.
Very creative fencing!
Excellent video. Thank you.
Nice video my friend I like your idea of bracing your corner post
Very Knowledgeable even after four years. ❤❤❤👍👍👍
Thank you for showing this as I have never seen this done.
We use phone poles too! but we are on a list when they are in the area they just bring us a load and dump them. They are free but you get the good and bad.
That was a great informative video. Now I know how to do a good corner post. Thank you so much..!! Have a great day..
this is a great video, not having to buy all the special tools for the bracing! ... I used some high tinsel wire to do this. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the tips Danny!
Great tips! Thanks!😀
My Uncle Roger would build a corner like this. Nice to see that some folks still have a lick of common sense and don't need all the fancy store bought fence stretchers and what not. "Make it work until it don't" Uncle would say, "Then fix it!"
I just watched five different videos before yours. For some reason I didn't like what I saw until I saw yours. This I can do! The crow bar is original and seems a lot easier then twisting with a bar or fence stretcher. Thanks so much.
Thanks Danny, great job.
Boy I wish our kU sold thoses thanks for showing me how to do the corner post . What a good job! Now that will hold!!
Annie Farmer It has always done fine for me and held for the life of the post. Thanks girl
Very nice corner! I’ve learned the hard way in the past ya can’t skimp on a corner! Crow bar is a lot easier than a fence stretcher
Fluty Lick Homestead Country folks got to do things however they can. Thanks
Fluty Lick Homestead tenfour
I also use a crowbar to tighten wire. I'm glad you posted this because I just realized that I attached my tightening wire to the wrong end of my corner post, now to get that changed. Only a few more thousand feet to go. Thanks, Tim.
Thank you sir, now I get to go out into the pasture and re-do 3 corners that I braced in the wrong direction. Oh well
What a great video, very simple . Thank you
Good job!
This is an excellent TEACHING video. Thank-you so much for this Danny and Wanda.
Thank you for this video: appreciated it - I will follow your instructions - looks great!
Very informative!
Awesome, nice tips. I like your way of doing it. Just wire and staples. Looks like it will last a long time
I hadnt thought of using a crowbar, I use two hammers! I also use barbed wire since I have a lot of it! I use an old metal paint can for staples and tpost hooks with a piece of barbwire made into a hook. Makes it easy to hang on the fence when working so it doesnt dump! Hangs nicely in the barn too!
Great info. Thank you!
Yeah boy! You can play a tune on THAT wire! Hey from Big Creek Lake!
Finished .is very nice and neat
I believe I like this method. No additional hardware necessary!!
Very helpful thank you 👍
good video
Ty!!
Great tips
Nice job, nail bar good idea to tighten the wire. 👍👍👍👍 🚧
EXCELLENT video Danny and Wanda! Very important information. If you haven't got good strong fences on a farm/homestead you ain't got nothing! Cuz everything's gonna get out or IN for that matter! Excellent excellent excellent video.
good video and useful!
Thanks for video. Please show part os the fence build too
Great video. You made that look easy. I subscribed. You just need a simple tool belt with a hammer loop and a nail pouch and plier pouch.
10:35 Nice catch. Very informative video. thank you
Thank you Danny
great idea, never seen it done like that. i was watching you hit that wire and really hoping those staples didn't fall. ;) nice gshock, bytheway.
This fellow is the best.
Nice job
I like the crowbar approach. Gonna use that. Subscribed.
thanks for the great video. I think I'd like to try this method. Say...I read somewhere that using 4x4 square lumber as a horizontal member should be avoided as it's not as strong as the round posts. But I see you used one here. Is that a bunch of Malarkey? I hope I can because I can't even get the round posts right now with all the mills closed down
a strong magnet put in the pocket of your bibs will hold staples. fence is looking good.
Top video and good advice :-) Next time I run a fence I shall try this method instead of my normal practice.... I would be inclined to use a "easy wire puller" less chance of the wire puller slip on the wire than the crow bar...Like I said top vid!!
Loved the video! Do you have one on how you dig post holes? Do you have an auger for the tractor and any videos of seeing you dig holes with it? Thank you.
If you were to double the wire back over onto itself after the first staple and then put another staple over both wires on either side it would only be able to move if the staples come out or the wood rots or the wire breaks. Definitely like the crow bar idea though!
Any suggestion on how to keep the bracing wire from biting into a square post when putting the tension on it?
Nice. And the crow bar and hammer trick got the wire tight. But why not just put a stake in the loop and spin it to tighten the wire just as much as you'd like?
Cool channel subscribed Thank you!!!!
Thank you for the video sir. Somehow my posts always twist and I end up in a mess.
I would have made the top rail quite a bit longer, as that will tend to want to pull the corner out of the ground. Fortunately you said that you have a good lot of cement in the corner strainer hole so that should help to keep it in place.
I had to watch this twice You taught me something new today! Really good job!
Annie Farmer Thanks Annie your place looks so nice.
Looks pretty good, but how will you tighten it next year? Wire usually stretches some. There’s probably a way...
We use a 9 gauge brace wire and twist it in the middle. It doesn't come lose. We have done the same with barb wire and it doesn't come lose either. I would have used 6 in 8' pressure treated in the corner and 5" on the outsides. That looked like a 4" cause it shore gave alot when you were stapling the wire. Most folks don't get the next step right.
"Better to be too long instead of too short". That's what I told her last night.
Lots of good information. Should you wait a couple days after you set the posts so they're good and solid in the ground before hammering and pulling on them or does it not matter?
Brian Mattingly Ive always done it right away with no problems. Thanks
You could also use a screw driver and put in between the two wires and twist them tight.
Could I make a h brace fence with 4 inch diameter posts? I couldn’t find any 6in posts in my area.
Was shocked at how well the crowbar gripped that wire. I don’t think mine will do that, but I’m about to find out. Did you sharpen the claw somehow?
Thank you.
where did you get the slick wire thanks
How did you attach the brace to the posts
