I think Robert Lamm is such a freak'n lyrical genius! "Can you tell me, please don't tell me" is exactly like something me and my conflicted, confused self would say! Love Robert for writing this and Peter for singing it so beautifully!
These old videos of Chicago are great. Especially watching Peter sing whether it is from 40+ years ago or a week ago. He is an excellent musician with much talent still at the age of 73. And to further add, he looks as good as he sounds!
listen how the audience roars every time Peter comes in on another soaring verse! Edited to add; they could have been roaring after an amazing run from Terry doing his intuitively perfect guitar work. He knew just how to set up his band, be it the horns or whoever was doing vocals. Terry was always the perfect counterbalance. A man one with his instrument. Such passion and such heart. A rare gem! Peter's vocals were perfection the entire concert. All players excelled. We who grew up with this band were lucky to have such a band growing with us.
Absolutely beautiful masterpiece, great music & memories of life, solid gold standard of excellence for 50 years, phenomenal sound, one of the best band's of all time, top of the line music, Peter is truly unbelievable, 100% pure premium talent, magnificent memories, priceless music & video, legendary performance from one of the best singers in the history of music
I could never understand why this song NEVER made it onto their Greatest Hits. It is their ANTHEM of LIVE Performances. Consistently receiving Air-Play her on three diff Classic Music Radio Stations. I dont know if the typical music listener could really Appreciate what Chicago was at the time, had it NOT been for their VOCALS aside. Musically (w/out vocals), they were at the top, Creme-de la-Creme. There will prolly never be a band quite like them. KUDO's for sharing this Video. Thanks :) J.
Good lord, everyone is on fire here! Peter is singing the hell out of this, Kath is just ripping it up at the beginning and during his solo, Lamm and Seraphine are their usual stellar selves, and of course, there's that awesome brass ensemble. What a great tune!
"This song is sung by Pete Cetera, it was our first boss hit bound single that never was a boss hit bound single, Questions 67 and 68!" Terry Kath introducing this tune on the Chicago at Carnegie Hall four disc album.
I bought this album in '69 when it came out and still have it. This song has been a constant in my life over the the bumpy years. Still get goose bumps when I hear it. One of the greatest rock 'n roll songs ever! These guys were phenomenal.
Ohhhh... this is the pC that made me go Ummmmmmmmm... they will be playing in my heaven. With the late, great fantastic guitarist Terry Kath. :). Love it love it.
This is music that came at a time in my life when my consciousness of things around me was just developing, guitars, cars, girls - everything that leaves in indelible imprint in your soul. What a fantastic experience it is rediscovering this wonderfully talented group.
yes. He usually is at perfect pitch. Non-vocalists have no idea how special it is to hit practically every note with such ease & perfection. I think I have heard all versions of this out there and he really was Epic in his delivery. This song is pure platinum. The punctuation of horns paired with Peter's voice and the reduction in tempo leading up to last two verses is one of the best part of this magical song.
I feel sorry for folks who never got to see the original line-up play. They were always great, laughing and joking with each other which created a great mood for the audience.
Just ordered two DVD's - one of this concert in 72 and another of early 70's footage. Just sad we don't have that magic anymore - the original - band members, attitude, rawness, etc...
Hi Rickobear - He is a lifelong Cubs fan - he was a 'longhair' at the Dodgers stadium at a game in 1970... he got involved in a fight with some military guys - three got him off by himself and put him in intensive care. His jaw was wired shut and he went on the road like that! ;-) He also wrote 'Where Do We Go from Here' while convalescing... he was watching men land on the moon and thought... where do we go ... from here?
Damn, in all the times I've seen Chicago in concert and watched their videos this is the first time I've ever seen Danny and his drum kit up front and center. Pretty cool. Must have been one helluva show to see live.
Au60schild Seraphine was often nicely positioned front and center between Kath and Cetera in their early years, before the horns took that spot, probably at the insistence of that stage attention hog, James Pankow.
I think the thing with the camera was someone's idea of fancy camera work. Just like when they keep going to the hippies in the Caribou Ranch stuff. It's great that someone thought to save this forty years ago. Thanks for retrieving it and posting it Carlos.
juhkir123 ~ PC often chewed gum while singing to keep his throat moist... he still does either have mints, gum or water when he performs. Plus, he had just had his jaw broken in three places two years before this concert - says he still sings with a clinched jaw to this day :). Actually, its one of my fav things about this vid - when he leans back and chews the gum... lol.
@carina2244: Wow. I'm blown away. I'm at exactly the opposite end of the spectrum from you. This is not only my favorite Chicago song, It is my favorite song of all time. Especially this version. I can see how you like it a little more now. This in when Chicago was at their absolute best.
Robert Lamm, my greatest crush from Chicago Band, He’s such Talented, Good looking, freaking good musician, lyricist, master of all, Just Love Him So Much, More Power to all!🙏🙏❤️😘
With the Japanese subtitles (I believe), I'm going to assume this is from 1972, when they recorded their 'live in Japan' concert. It wasn't released here in the states til several years ago. Peter sang this song in Japanese too, as well as the song, 'Lowdown'. I didn't truly appreciate Peter's playing bass til I bought that double cd. Wow!
Aaaaa cómo me gusta ésta canción, bellísima.
PC is on twitter posts most every day if not several times a day he is the real deal! his website is fantastic! and yes he is allowed a private life! thanks! Aj
@H1wyStr Saw them in the mid 70s at the Lakeland Civic Center. It was my first ever rock concert, and I was floored. My little brother did get a contact high from the marijuana smoke that hung ominously over the crowd.
The list of new Hall of Fame candidates just came out (late Sept. '11) and Chicago is not on it. This band created and defined a genre of music (brass rock) and that's good enough for admission to the Hall imo. Hendrix used to pay to watch Terry Kath play for cryin' out loud !! They finally got around to Alice Cooper, now it's time for Chicago and Yes. I miss Terry and his style.
I bet I could listen to this song 24/7 for the rest of my life and still never tire of it. Just an outstanding tune.
Check out the Leonid and Friends cover band version

Me too! Love this song!
Danny Seraphine, the most underrated drummer of all times !! The older I get , the more I love this tune
I think Robert Lamm is such a freak'n lyrical genius!
"Can you tell me, please don't tell me" is exactly like something me and my conflicted, confused self would say!
Love Robert for writing this and Peter for singing it so beautifully!
Anyone who numbers their questions is cool with me.
Pete freaking Cetera. 'Nuff said.
Peter Cetera on fire ! Super camera work.
These old videos of Chicago are great. Especially watching Peter sing whether it is from 40+ years ago or a week ago. He is an excellent musician with much talent still at the age of 73.
And to further add, he looks as good as he sounds!
And don't forget the late great Terry Kath. Pure Magic
WOW!...Peter! and Terry!.......
And Peter Cetera is seriously floating my boat in this one... after that second 'together'... the 'ohhh' makes me wanna go back in time ;-P
RIP TERRY KATH! Love this song!
Peter was on fire here. That voice and his super good looks. He has it all!
SHARON LAFOREST He still has it all !
He played some amazing basslines on that first CTA album, that was his finest work as a bass player.

I love it. Great song. Peter Cetera, giant.
Love this song. Classic 70's Chicago music. Best decade for music of all time. And they were one of the best bands back then.
Good lord, everyone is on fire here! Peter is singing the hell out of this, Kath is just ripping it up at the beginning and during his solo, Lamm and Seraphine are their usual stellar selves, and of course, there's that awesome brass ensemble. What a great tune!

Bellísima voz de Peter, súper sensual este hombre🔥😋
That voice and that face, well perfection wrapped up in one perfect package. Can't ask for anything better.
Yes, I agree. Peter was one of the best looking musicians back in the 70's. He is still one very good-looking man at the age of 74. Still so cute.
"This song is sung by Pete Cetera, it was our first boss hit bound single that never was a boss hit bound single, Questions 67 and 68!" Terry Kath introducing this tune on the Chicago at Carnegie Hall four disc album.
Robert G. I love Chicago early years the songs are fantastic
magnificent masterpiece
I bought this album in '69 when it came out and still have it. This song has been a constant in my life over the the bumpy years. Still get goose bumps when I hear it. One of the greatest rock 'n roll songs ever! These guys were phenomenal.
That GLIMPSE of the guitar god Terry Kath at 3:30....
Ohhhh... this is the pC that made me go Ummmmmmmmm... they will be playing in my heaven. With the late, great fantastic guitarist Terry Kath. :). Love it love it.

Luv this song!
This is music that came at a time in my life when my consciousness of things around me was just developing, guitars, cars, girls - everything that leaves in indelible imprint in your soul. What a fantastic experience it is rediscovering this wonderfully talented group.
Chicago is above the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!
Peter's voice in this whole Japan concert was perfectly awesome, but isn't it always perfect.
Chicago Fan it is always , he's a master !!!!!!!!

One of my top 5 favorite Chicago songs ❤🎉
Wow...did they ever nail this song....awesome...Thanks to CZcams and Upload.
CTA was great writing
Many have tried, but none sound like Peter Cetera! Wow all that talent in one band! I took it for granted as a teenager in the 70s until Terry......
This is priceless video.....Thanks to everyone who allows it
Just ordered two DVD's - one of this concert in 72 and another of early 70's footage. Just sad we don't have that magic anymore - the original - band members, attitude, rawness, etc...
tell me he doesn't have the most beautiful hair.
Except his beard. Not for him
One of their best songs, soooo glad they were finally inducted in the R&R Hall of Fame!!
Hi Rickobear - He is a lifelong Cubs fan - he was a 'longhair' at the Dodgers stadium at a game in 1970... he got involved in a fight with some military guys - three got him off by himself and put him in intensive care. Cetera hitting on all cylinders
I feel this song was always one of their best hits, but they don't play it when I've attended their concerts over the past ten years.
Seraphine fan here, enjoying the crisp sound and the camo pants -- fashion forward!
Isn't that Peter Cetera vocal gorgeoso!!!
I love seeing these old concert clips Great band

It is on the Rhino 2003 CD compilation "The Very Best of Chicago: Only the Beginning"...
I wonder if terry was still alive if the real band would get back together. They rocked!!!
