    Okay, everybody listen up. This is like chopping off the whole penis by removing all external genitalia, thousands of nerve endings, just gone. And a lot of the time, done by people with no medical experience using pieces of glass. I'm very sorry about what men with MGM had to go through but trying to have a "who had it worse" game isn't gonna help anyone.

      Then you need to go and actually fact check this. In Muslim culture as well as in Africa, FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) is normal. Seen as a right of passage into womanhood and since the woman is worth less than the male in that culture, she doesn't need to feel pleasure. I'm saying both places practice this. You may want to look into what someone says before jumping on the idea that a different view point makes someone an idiot. Here, maybe you'll believe the Wiki. "Female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female genital cutting and female circumcision, is the ritual cutting or removal of some or all of the external female genitalia. The practice is found in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and within communities from countries in which FGM is common. UNICEF estimated in 2016 that 200 million women living today in 30 countries-27 African countries, Indonesia, Iraqi Kurdistan and Yemen-have undergone the procedures.[3]"

      @freeza3112 Před 6 lety +44

      Then why does it say, We will mount (conquer) the world, either through violence or through the womb? That doesn't sound peaceful to me. In the 1970's, Afghanistan dressed like they do here in North America. Then Islam came in, and started showing up with Sharia Law and taking control. I know we are not going to agree on anything here. Even with my buddy Mohammed here telling me he escaped Lebanon with his family to get away from the "peace" you keep talking about. He didn't want his daughter going through FGM like his wife was forced to because of the religion. So I'm just going to leave it. You can live your life and I'll live mine. I'm sorry we couldn't have an actual conversation without having to throw around insults. I leave you with, We shall agree to disagree.

      Well it's obvious you haven't even read the Qur'an fgm has nothing to do with Islam there is no mention of fgm in the Qur'an. Fgm is ancient African Custom, practiced by Christians, animist, and Muslims on the Continent of Africa. Muslim Countries have Criminalized the Practice but Christian African Countries such as Ethiopia and Kenya have not.
      Your confused with culture and religion. The vast majority of Muslims do not practice fgm

    To help men understand: FGM is like cutting off your penis. Definitely NOT the same as circumcision. Not saying that circumcision ISN'T an issue, but this video is about FGM. No need to bring up circumcision as an argument against Buzzfeed putting up this video. FGM is very serious business, and not on the same level as circumcision. Again, not that circumcision ISN'T serious (for all the potential butthurts out there).

      NOOO. What do you mean "thank you to the men"? there's nothing to be thankful for, men are the reason patriarchy exists and the reason women are mutilated, because apparently they are not allowed to feel pleasure like men do. We have to be thankful to the women who were strong enough to go trough this and still fight against misogyny, we have to thank this woman in the video, who is talking about the issue, sharing her story. We dont need to be thankful to men, they are not doing us any favor by being "understanding". A wonderful video about a empowered black woman talking about her fight and we still feel the need to thank men??? This is OUR fight. ALL PROTAGONISM FOR WOMEN

Having them empathize with women and acknowledge their struggles is important. and while I don't think they should be thanked for doing what they should be doing already, to say that their understanding isn't doing us any favors i just don't think is true

      Do you see it now or do you need some glasses?
      Something like being circumcised as a baby can’t give you a mental trauma, like you said they don’t remeber it. Physical maybe, while I know a lot of guys whom are circumcised and don’t have any problems at all.

      The amount of disrespect you must have to completly disregard the woman in this video to talk about a different issue.

      Mex cart Circumcision is different in regards to genital mutilation, my son is circumcised, women have no reason to ever have their genitals altered, however men with uncircumcised penis are much more likely to suffer from many infections, penile cancer, more susceptible to STD's including HIV, ect. Circumcision doesn't result in pain for the rest of a males life, unlike vaginal genital mutilation, because we don't have that extra skin like a penis does. To consider circumcision to GM is like comparing a venomous snake, to a non venomous snake. You're however allowed that opinion, and can easily just not have your son circumcised (If you have one or ever do have one) the idea of banning circumcision and ridding us mother's of that choice is essentially wrong, in the regards that, that is our child, and that circumcision is scientifically proven to give your child more protection and is healthier, and as parents that is what we must do for our children, to give them the healthiest options possible. Not to mention the fact, most all men prefer to have circumcised penises, rather than uncircumcised. Can't argue with facts.

    • @minun653
      @minun653 Před 6 lety +3

      Kimberly Hamilton penile cancer is even more rare than breast cancer, and the cases aren't common in younger males. And the claim that it prevents infection better untrue, it does the same thing that taking a shower and just washing yourself would do. There is risk of botched circumcision and that causing even more infection and the same permanent damage. Nobody, even a mother should have the right to make a permanent change to a unconsenting child's body. If it was suddenly proven that cutting the clit off would prevent stds would you still do that and be against it being banned?

    • @DD-jr3mq
      @DD-jr3mq Před 6 lety

      Jacob Khan if circumcision really did what you said it's supposed to be then most american men wouldn't be able to get erect and feel any sexual pleasure and have any children but they do. For males sexual pleasure is key to procreation but women don't need to experience it in order to get pregnant. The only purpose of fgm is to not cheat on their spouses. In cultures where women are sold to be brides for some cattle and beer nobody cares what they feel. Cutting them with razors, rusty scissors and broken glass then sewing them shut for her first wedding night when they would feel pain because it's raw scar tissue. Then probably cutting them open again when they give birth and many of them die of blood loss and unsanitary conditions but who cares right? The only positive thing about fgm is that these girls feel accepted by society but if they somehow escape it they are shunned from her parents and everybody else and she is deemed unfit to marry and all on her own

      Brenda Floodgate In the society she is from, women do this to other women, usually grandmothers do this to their granddaughters. Men have no say in the matter, if they try to stop their daughters from getting cut, the grandmother or sometimes mother will take the girl when he isn't around and do it anyway. It's based on an old fashioned idea that a woman should have nothing there, that it makes her less feminine, and that any woman who isn't cut won't be chaste and that her future husband won't have any guarantee that she's a virgin (since the tradition is to sew up a girl completely so that when she marries as an adult, her husband will have to literally rip her open to sleep with her).

    I feel like everyone in the comments is essentially coming from the same place, but because of semantics we all seem to have differing opinions, despite pretty much believing the same things.
    FGM - completely terrible, obviously. The clit is cut right off, the vagina is sometimes sewn up, it causes all kinds of medical problems and it's completely degrading.
    (Male) circumcision - also a huge issue. While it's not nearly as drastic a medical procedure as FGM, it's still wrong to force an infant/child to have part of their body surgically removed for no medical reason.
    While circumcision is a massive problem, it's not the same as FGM, so we should probably just be respectful to the woman in this video rather than arguing about it.
    Feminazis - stupid people who believe that men are idiots and women are superior, etc etc.
    Feminists - people of any gender who believe that people should have equal rights, regardless of gender.
    That means that FGM is a feminist issue, because it's designed to remove a woman's sexual pleasure. FGM is obviously a huge issue.
    However, this doesn't mean that other, 'smaller' issues (like sexual harassment, toxic masculinity/femininity or objectifying women) aren't also problems. The beauty of feminism is that we can focus on more than one problem at once.

If it was a case of bad circumcition it was a doctors negligent act, because circumcition is not made to cut of the penis nerves, it was a colateral damage (im not saying your case is nothing, its terrible), but the circumcision is not made to cut of nerves, and the female mutilation it is. For god sake, there are cases when the vagina is sew up, or even the mayor labia is cut down in order to ban sexuality to female, its not the same act because the intention behind them are completly different

So while your personal belief may be against circumcision, don't belittle the women who have and still do suffer because of this. Circumcised men loose skin, not their whole penis.

    • @jennynguyen7895
      @jennynguyen7895 Před 7 lety +10

      While it is possible for there to be complications post circumcision, it does happen a lot more frequently after FGM and (like the video mentioned) a lot of women who have had their genitals mutilated end up with HIV or other infections which can lead to death due to poor conditions and equipment (also a possibility with MGM but it's usually performed in sterile environments with qualified doctors at least in the US). Also, when the clitoris is removed the woman may end up never experiencing an orgasm if she is unable to have vaginal orgasms which is quite common. Not trying to say circumcision isn't bad, non consensual mutilation is awful either way but at least men would still be able to orgasm after.

      body modifications shouldnt be done to anyone who cannot give consent. however fgm is far more extensive and purposely damaging than male circumcision.
      mistake can be made sure, but mgm and fgm are far more serious. and to compare a mostly harmless (meaning that out of the millions who have ot very few are left with irreversible and life inhibiting damage) to the proceedures known as genital mutilation is ignorant.
      mgm or male genital mutilation comes in many forms, one of the more gruesome ones involves making incisions along the underside of the penis for aesthetic and cultural reasons. i do not have an extensive knowledge on this, but im pretty sure this is done later in life, as a teen or an adult. though this practice is not as widely practiced outside of indigenous groups in australia.
      fgm is includes the removal of the clitoral hood, clitoral glans, the removal of the inner labia (sometimes the removal of both the inner and outer labia). as well as the closure of the vulva through a procedure that leaves a small hole for the passage of urine and menstrual fluid. this type of fgm requires the vagina to be literally opened for intercourse and then opened further for childbirth. This particular form of fgm is often (99% of the time) dones in an attempt to control women's sexuality, under ideas about purity, modesty and aesthetics. this form of mutilation is was documented in 2016 to have been done to roughly 200 million women. with procedures having been done in 27 countries in Africa, as well as in Indonesia, Iraqi Kurdistan and Yemen, with a rate of 80-98 percent within the 15-49 age group.
      circumcision rarely leads to the health problems (and is done mostly with health befifits in mind, where as gm is done mostly for aesthetic reasons with no health beifits being documented ever.) and chronic pain of genital mutilation. circumcision comes with risks, and i really do hate the idea that parents and others believe it is okay to make body modifications on children. but circumcision simply isnt as dangerous or as in need of activism as genital mutilation.

    Why can't be just talk about the seriousness of the issue at hand? Why must we always make comparisons and try to downplay the misery of a women? The topic of circumcision has no place here.
    Also there are benefits to circumcision despite the risk, whereas genital mutilation brings no good and just harm.
    If you want to make a comparison how about you compare getting castrated instead of a piece of skin, that in the long run doesn't really make a difference.

      But the risk outways the benefits. And it's a functional piece of skin. Go read a bit of science on the functions of the foreskin, and on the statistics of diseases cured by circumcision, then come back.

      Najey Rifai Obviously I know the about circumcision and this "functional piece of skin" that you speak, if I didn't know anything about it I wouldn't have mentioned it.
      What I am trying to say is, at the end of the day you can live a normal life after circumcision, as long as you let it heal well after the procedure. It won't make a difference in the end because you're still a healthy functional male who can feel pleasure. Circumcision is a procedure recognised by doctors, whereas FGM IS NOT.
