I graduated from Devil Pups the summer of 1975. It changed my life for the better. Tonight while having a flashback with my 11 year old son, I launched into right face, left face, about face, marching, parade rest, at attention, cadence counting some 40 years later, and I never went into the military after high school. This is an excellent program. I highly recommend it even today.

I did Devil Pups in 1988 or so but I didn't see any girls. They shipped us around in boiling hot "cattle cars" with little outside air but we got to see stuff blow up and some Recon guys did a rappelling demo which was pretty slick. We watched an amphibious exercise and went about one of the ships; toured the well deck. After, we stopped by MCRD for lunch on the way back. Did some pretty nice runs.... and a big wrestling blowout on the beach at the end. The 35' water jump was pretty gnarly, saw a couple guys hit the water with their faces.... don't do that.
    I still remember...
"From coast to coast we are the most, often duplicated but never imitated.
Rough tough romping stomping, barbwire walking, raw steel sex appeal,
    Fourth Platoon, hoorah!"
Corporal Stern was our platoon CO.

It was Sergeant Bennett and Corporal Amora for 5th Platoon for me.
The 35' water drop was also another highlight for me. I've seen a few that did fall nearly flat on their stomachs as well as a few (who ironically wailed on me and thought they themselves were tough as nails) that chickened out of the jump.

Yes, Devil Pups graduate here as well.4th platoon Class of 1993! We were all male class there were no females. It was beyond a tough experience and it does make you think about joining the marines. We ran every where non stop they would literally ran every we went! In the class room when the colonel was speaking, you would be so tired when sitting you would be sleeping and didn't even notice cause the amount of exhaustion, the Drill Instructors knew this and would look for sleepers, once they found you, it would be push ups! They did this ti build discipline! When you were at your breaking point, you somehow found it in you to never give up! Thank you Sgt Matrick and Corpral Teal for teaching me that you must never give up! "Improvise, adapt and overcome!" "HOORAH!"

I was a Devil Pup back in 61and 62 when I was in high school. It was the best experience of my life back then and I thoroughly enjoyed the program. I would highly recommend it for young men and women who want to experience a program that will provide them focus on spirit, discipline and respect for my country. The Marine Corps shares their experiences in making Marines at camp Pendleton in San Diego and you can see the pride in the members of the Corp. Later on I faced being drafted because of the Vietnam War and I decided to enlist in the Marines. I am a Marine and very proud of it.

I went to DEVIL PUPS 2 times. back in 1973 and 1974. I was in 8th grade, and only 13 years old. it was for 14 days BACK THEN, By the way I forgot to mentioned, I was a big trouble maker in school. But my experience in Devil Pups turned all that around. By the way, mount smoky was called MOUNT MOTHER FUCKER BACK THEN. I see they cleaned up the wording. Back then they were aloud to smack you push you. Pretty much beat you senseless. I'M proud to say at the time. Out of the hundreds of teen's that graduated. I came in the top 10 in the physical agility test. Of all the hundreds pups that were trying for the same goal. The harder the Sargent was on me, made me that much stronger. Stronger then the first day I arrived at Camp Pendleton. My goal was to come out of this with that certificate of achievement. And come out a better person then when I went in. If your wondering why I went twice. It's because my best friend SCOTTY dELREY wanted to go, and talked me into going again. I'M glad he did, because the first time I went. I didn't come in the top 10 pups. I wanted to be awarded so badly with being in the top 10 STRONGEST DEVIL PUPS PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST , and to get that certificate. THAT THEY ONLY GAVE TO THE TOP 10 YOUNG MEN and my first time I was not able to accomplish it. BUT THE SECOND TIME I DID. DAM I'M GLAD. I CAN SAY I EXPERIENCED DEVIL PUPS ! I ACCOMPLISHED MY GOAL. ILL LEAVE YOU WITH THIS. DEVIL PUPS IS NO JOKE. I DEAR YOU TO TAKE THE CHALLENGE, AND GO ! HELL IT'S ONLY 10 DAY'S NOW OUT OF YOUR LIFE. LIKE I SAID BEFORE IT WAS 14 WHEN I WENT. AND I CAN SAY TO THIS DAY MY LIFE IS BETTER FOR IT. IT'S AN EXPERIENCE YOU'LL NEVER FORGET!! HO RA !!

My buddy who was active duty in US Army and was a graduate of Devil Pups program, stated that Devil Pups program was harder than full army boot camp! As a graduate of the Devil Pups program myself I can agree with him. Devil Pups was to this day the hardest experience I had in my life. Ill never forget what it taught me to never give up! I barely graduated due to being overweight, however I learned one important lesson and that was to never give up! I graduated with the class of 1993! Only 10 days. I was a Devil Pup 3 years in a row about 35 years ago at GTMO Bay and it lasted almost all summer. We did almost everything the Marines did. Pt, drill, go out in the field and have war games. Shot real M-16s. And learned how to take them apart, clean and name every part. Drove a tank. Name it. Some of the best times of my life. Will never foget. But those bandanas have got to go. Just sayin.

I remember back in 2003 my boots were all stolen from my room by my SSGT to be lent to these pups.
I didn’t even know at the time that the pups were even a thing. They had my boots for only one week and were returned to me in such bad shape I was forced to throw them away. This led me to have to spend over 300 dollars for 2 new sets of boots thst my SSGT would not pay for after stealing them from Me.
Kudos to y’all for whatever SEAL ass training you must be doing out there on the daily though. Must be real hard chargers.
All past transgressions aside, seems like a good program. To this day I’ve never seen them in person, but it seems like a pretty good deal. Just brin your own damn boots 😆

My dad got me into this program during two consecutive summers in July 1959 and August 1960. It helped me to excel when I was drafted just after college in 1966. The army singled me out at the induction center at Ft. Lewis, Washington and sent me on to Fort Dix, NJ for special basic and advanced individual training over 16 weeks after which I gained the rank of E5. From there I was sent on to Ft. Benning, GA for 6 months of Officer Candidate School at which time I was given a commission as an infantry second lieutenant. From there I was sent behind the Iron Curtain to Berlin, serving as platoon leader, company executive officer, acting company commander and battalion staff officer over a two year assignment. When discharged from active duty I was "invited" to do my reserved duty as a leadership instructor for the Sixth Army's command and staff college helping non commissioned officers learn to be good leaders and teachers. I attribute these experiences to my further success and "can do" attitude in my civilian business life despite the difficulties I had learning in high school coupled with low self esteem.

@mr knocc down a flower chongo killa flower killa ..... I would like for you to understand one thing If you're going to go to a military school go there to learn. Not to pick up a firearm the only gun you need are attached to your Body already you have your hands to use a pencil and write down what you have learned the biggest cannon is your brain do something because you love to do it not because you want to go in to hurt or harm anyone. Believe me it is easy to shoot a gun and hurt someone but it's a lot more difficult to get the memories out of your head. Don't be stupid and ignorant like all of the military members The number one reason they are there it's because it's a job that they signed up for nobody owes you or them shit. If you go voluntarily walk into the office and sign yourself up that is because it's your choice. And one thing I want always trying and pass on to everyone else just because you learned how to kill or have a license to kill it does not mean the can pursue through it. Think before you act think before you work good luck on your future and endeavors and don't let nobody put you down but do not join the military just because you want to hurt someone if that is a fact might as well go to the closest prison... With this said just focus on your education and to move forward and strive and make everything into a better economy fight for what's right.

Nice to see the maturity exuded by someone who jumps straight to personal insults. And the intelligence that must lie behind it. If you think this is the only way to build self esteem then you are sadly mistaken. I must admit, the "unlike you" comment makes you seem unbearably stupid. As though you have some sort of special insight into a person life based solely on their youtube comment. It betrays a side of you that most would call a god complex. I simply refer to it as narcissism.

Military should be mandatory 2 years every 18 year old in our beloved country. The U.S. is headed down the toilet

    • @jbizzmore1878
      @jbizzmore1878 Před 4 lety

Negative. I like the idea of not having a mandatory service. Bc if anyone does decide to sign up, then it truly shows they love their country. If they are forced, where's the freedom? Although there are a lot of snowflakes in America now, let's keep them out of the military. Keep it strong. That's why we say thank you for your service. Bc they didn't have to sign their life away but they did.

@@jbizzmore1878 I prefer programs like this than scared straight programs for some of our troubled teens. For some, they can be given a choice of juvie, a scared straight program or 10 ten days with the Pups.

Yes, during drill. They teach you basic marching in preparation for review for graduation for the general. When on the parade ground you stand at parade rest for hours in the sweltering heat! They tell you to never lock your knees! I lot of guys did and were dropping like Flys!
