    This video walks you through how to change the rear brake pads on a Polaris Sportsman 500. I'm pretty sure these instructions will cover other years and models as well. Most four-wheelers will be a similar setup to this Polaris ATV. This video should give you a good idea on how to repair the rear brakes on just about any four-wheeler or ATV unless your ATV has an oil-bathed rear disk setup.

    I honestly owe you about $800. The local Polaris dealer quoted me $300-$500 per set for two atvs. These videos were awesome and it took me about 30 mins on first one and 20 mins on second one. Easy peasy.
    I bought my pads on Amazon. Caltric brand, $11.00 per set, with free shipping. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

      +George Johnston I had to compress mine, yes. It was very simple with a c clamp.

    Pre 2000 there's a single shaft that comes out of the rear right of the gearbox with a single disc and set of pads on a single caliper, it has dual pistons which can be pushed back using the old pads and a big screwdriver, there's a large hairpin looking thing that retains both pads in the caliper. Pretty easy. Gotta remember to take the seat off and take the cap off the small rear brake master cylinder under the seat.

    Duh.... Sorry bout the brain fart. As soon as your video started, answer to my question. I was thinking "set" of pads were front, rear, and ??. Only one in back, that would explain why the one I looked at in the rear was so much more worn than the front... Thanks, keep up the great video tutorials!!

    Just did my rear, You only need to take out the top Hex bolt and "C" Clip. Loosen the two other bolts.
    Then remove the pads, install new ones. I see you didn't use the metal backing plates from the old pads on the new pads, I didn't either. I just use a flat blade screwdriver to compress the piston.

    hello ... if your still out there great video thanks for the help. i was wondering if you have any idea how to change the center rubber thing in the calliper

    Yes, there are only three total brakes but the back one is not the same as the front ones. Make sure you know that when you buy them it will save yourself a lot of grief you can’t make the wrong one fit.

    Will watch video and thanks for making it. Can someone tell me why they are selling 3 sets of pads for the Sportsman on many websites? Fronts/rears should be 2 pair, not 3.. I'm thinking maybe the ADC has pads?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Mark, thanks for the video. I was hoping to ask you a question. I have a 2006 scrambler 500 and the rear brakes have never worked since it was new. I had the rear master cylinder replaced and they worked for a few days at best. Any ideas what the culprit may be?? There is no resistance when pushing the pedal down. fluid is fine, etc. It's way out of my league. any ideas would really be appreciated. thanks!

    • @clinthemphill
      @clinthemphill Před 9 lety

      Yes, it does.

    • @clinthemphill
      @clinthemphill Před 9 lety

      Thanks Mark. I don't see it leaking anywhere but likewise, the brake assembly is not compressing. Caliper? sounds like it..

      The pins take a 3/8 inch allen wrench. Not a star socket.
