This video walks you through how to change the front brake pads on a Polaris Sportsman 500. I'm pretty sure these instructions will cover other years and models as well. Most four-wheelers will be a similar setup to this Polaris ATV. This video should give you a good idea of how to repair the front brakes on just about any four-wheeler or ATV.

Perfect, just what I needed to know,...easy enough, but way better when you watch someone do it first.

I just bought an oul Polaris and I find your video very informative. The camera work is very good and your are very good at explaining things. My bike was rode on the beach a lot and I have a very hard time with salt and rust, so every project is a chore. Very good video.

Thanks so much for the video.....my 2000 Polaris is almost identical on the front pads. I'm not a mechanic at all and your videos have been awesome....not difficult tasks, but seeing it makes a huge difference.....keep them coming if you have any more Polaris vids outside of the ones already posted.

Good video I like watching it a lot. I never got into 4wheeling until I was older. We form a group of ATVers to build a new trail system. Without the internet we couldn’t have this far. Have awesome day :-)

The shop manual for the Xplorer 300 mentions something about a brake pad adjuster screw. It says to tighten it until the stationary pad makes contact with the rotor then back the screw off 1/2 turn. I can't seem to find this adjuster screw on mine. The only thing I can think of they are talking about is that Allen head plug that keeps one of the pins from moving. I replaced the pads on mine like you did and the brakes worked just fine.
The idiot I bought this bike off of had ran the pads down to nothing. The fingers on the front calipers had ate into the front rotors! The backing plates on the pads were paper thin and pretty much gone.
So I had to buy some used calipers and take them apart and clean them. I was too cheap to buy new ones. The rear brake pad was metal to metal but luckily it didn't get as far as the fronts. But the piston pushed the rotor back so far back against the transmission, I couldn't get the caliper back on with new pads. But it was an easy fix. I just took a pry bar and eventually the rotor popped back into it's original position.
Then my chain came off on the trail and had to have a buddy pull me back 10 miles with his side by side and I kept riding my brakes for fear I was going to slam into the back of him. So I need to pull the wheels off to check to see if I burned my brake pads up.

Hey Mark - Great video. Thanks. Not sure the link to the pads still works. Do you happen to have a good aftermarket pad suggestion? 2003 Sportsman 500. OEM pads for the front are $70.00. Thanks!

I was wondering if you have ever done the rotors? I need pads and rotors now. I know how to do the pads but not the rotors. I can't find anywhere on the net how to do them.

(2001 Sportsman 500 ho) I bought it recently and sometimes after it sits in park it wants to pull to the left, I just switched break pads, if it still keeps happening is there anything else i should try before switching out the caliper?
