The arrogance of her children is disgraceful . They walk into a world they played no part in building and screw over their own mothers life and standards .
Imagine if they were very very rich! It would be worse in arrogance and entitlement. Her husband should shut up, no mingling in his wifeâs inheritance. Heâs like the Meghan Markle of the Windsors
Thereâs an old saying âsometimes you bear your enemiesâ.
@@fredziffle5219 many do indeed !
They're about to lose that castle if they cant make any money for the upkeep of it. What is the point? Sometimes you need to put your emotions and feelings away and look at reality. Either you turn the castle into a money making business, or you just don't make any money at all and lose the entire castle.
The lady's game plan is not a solid one as she already admits that she's bleeding money and doesn't know what to do about it. If that's the case, step down and let your son take over. She's just an old woman stuck in her dying ways when everyone else who is smart and rational can see that this is no way to sustain such a property.
I could be wrong of course, but Lady Ashcomb comes across as a very spoiled woman when she is about to lose the castle. She is stubborn inflexible and disagreeable. Everything will go straight down the crapper if they donât allow events, especially weddings on the weekends. They need a new roof ASAP, if you donât keep it dry, that is the end of it!
Nice to know that Burton Court is still going and that Edward is married with a little girl. I wish them well.
Was rooting for Burton Court, he actually deserves to inherit the place. Hard worker! đȘ
Maybe if Henry and Molly have to clean the bathrooms, sell the gate tickets, pick up the trash then they might find sharing the estate with tourists less distasteful. What spoiled brats.

Sudley castle is beautiful. Hope they can work together to fix it. David their manager is doing a wonderful job for them. All the best for it's upkeep.
How about a follow up to see how these places are doing now in 2022?
Burton Court family is so adorable! There's so few families owning these estates and not showing this ridiculous, ostentatious, bad-tasted and pretentious manner of being. It takes courage to not be afraid of who we really are. I wish them best of luck!!
Edward (Burton Court) is a valiant man. How broken-hearted would his parents have been to have to give up the estate? This was around 2003, Cdr. Simpson just died in 2018 at 95. Burton Court still rocks.
Howâs your day going today my friend?
Just checked their web site, was delighted to see that the Burton court is still led by Simpsons. Would love to have a son like Edward, his heart is in a right place, what a lovely son for parents, who I also just adored, nicest folks ever â€đ again my happy thoughts with them! Well done!

Son david at kelborn needs to either get a job or get to work around the bouse. I donât see him as an asset to the longevity of the house either. I think he may be a dolt.
I was thinking the same thing. Completely lazy and uncaring.
Welcome to the majority of aristocrats..not all but plenty..particularly the next generations as you see here..HonestlyâŠ.they donât have a clue about the real worldâŠI feel for the mother but she created those monsters..Clearly in the hay day when she was raising them money was of abundance..So she raised very privilege childrenâŠlikely because she was..

They still own and son Edward is running as wedding venue - website photo features him & lady and baby The content seems father has passed away. But mom Helen and his wife is also named Helen. So glad to see they pulled through a success
Mine too
Wish Edward would show his mum Helen empathy around the loss of her museum.
I think the mum would be an asset to that company. Her wandering around chatting is very endearing.
The pain of the burton court owners when she had to sell her collections their son is brave and a hard worker
I would think the best way to keep roofing costs down on such an enormous ancient structure is to have regularly scheduled and thorough inspections of the roof to identify the weak spots and take action; some of which are easily repaired and donât cost a lot.
A simple cage around that drainage hole and regular cleaning would have prevented thousands of pounds in household damage of property and repairs.
Prevention is always easier in ever way, than to fix a damage.. I work as a nurse, we always go with the prevention prevention prevention. bcs it will cost less, it will mean less suffering for the patient, shorter time in hospital/care more time at home that affects on their life quality..
It's something I've also adapted at home..
It makes life easier & you have less stress..
A pine trap and rerouted rain water could have saved thousands of pounds in fixing the roof.
Laziness. Itâs that simple.
@@pommiebears Edward had waaaaaaay too much to do, so it's understandable a random drain hole could get plugged. I don't think he's lazy.
Maggs Bufton those who have stately homes do have regular building inspections

This modern art idea is untenable. The daughter with her artistic vision belongs in a big city. There is NO economic future in that ridiculously niche market. Add the outside elements to that and she will have created an economic disaster.
Profits are in numbers and numbers are for long lines of regular people paying to get away from their ordinary lives to experience the gardens and to be in an enormous house and home.
The daughter needs to wake up to the realities and those are that common people built the castle in the first place, paid for it indirectly in the first place and and have maintained it through their fees for visits in the second place.
She doesn't seem to realise that the upper class of this sort relies on the public for their status. Always have and always will. Therefore she must serve the public as does even The Queen as she and Charles have said over and over for decades.
Maybe the daughter should realise her last name isn't Sotheby and wake up to reality.
The older couple at Burton castle really hurt my heart.
I hate to see them have to part w their "treasures" in order to keep their lovely home......she looked so sad to see those display dioramas loaded up in the moving van.....đ„....the older gentleman is so humble and cute....that circular staircase is stunning!!!đČ....imagine the bride coming down the staircase.....đ„°đ€.....I love the sounds of all the people enjoying themselves w their friends.
But, why did they buy a house who need 23 servants???
I've looked up Burton Court and it's so lovely to see it doing really really well, as is Sudeley Castle and gardens. Congratulations!

The Spencers and the Devonshires and many others have successfully combined their family homes with the business of having their stately homes open to the public as well as having special occasions in the grounds and other buildings. The Spencers still run a commercial farm on their lands. Others have hunts and activities. Many are used for movies and TV series....

Iâve been to all three homes. The way they combine business and home life is amazing. The Cambelllâs in Scotland donât even live in their castle. They live in Africa, and yet they manage the estate and business. I grew up in an old house, I grew up with scaffolding, it was embarrassing as a teen but Iâm glad now for the experience.
And your comment about no screening over drains is spot on.
Standing in a lineup and being disappointed not to see inside the castle, isa deathknell for Sudely. What will happen when the money runs out? A bad attitude by the daughter and son-in-law .
Exactly. That IS the reality. Unless the family has inherited an endless supply of money, it's the only way for them to survive. I've watched a documentary on Althrop. Earl Charles Spencer is very realistic. He, his wife and staff all work on the beautiful property. I loved what he said (paraphrasing) "I'm just the custodian of the house and it's up to me to keep it up and hopefully pass it along in better condition than I received it"
I guess it also helps he's a wonderful historian and author. đ
I'm sure praying for everyone
A woman from Kentucky? Well, she has the credit of surviving the years without a husband and apparently didnât remarry. kudos to her!
But she raised two very spoiled children, specially the daughter.
The daughterâs husband should not seat on these family meetings, and if he does, should keep heâs big mouth shot.
How come he doesnât go off to work and support HIS family the proper way instead of leaching off his wifeâs trust?
She did remarry her 1st husband who died was Mark Dent Brockenhurst her 2nd was Lord Ashcomb.
The fact that she comes from Kentucky means nothing. She probably came from Kentucky with a large dowry just like all the American dollar princesses.
Sheâs put decades, most of her life into that home.

Helen is a gem. No matter what, she tries to smile and shrug it off
Helen was so beautiful in those old photos, and she is still a lovely person. (I'm a fellow MillAr)
At the second place, Burton Court, Helen seems a lovely lady. I googled the place and I saw their website advertising weddings by them and their son, Edward who is now married to another Helen and they have a daughter, Rosabelle. I'm glad it's working out for them but I sincerely hope they've got rid of those last stuffed animal heads, fiercely looking down on wedding diners.
Omg this is what always happens,If this was my home I would always deal with the roof first because if it doesn't have a roof it obviously then have no floors then no walls all gone.
Right! Exactly fix the roof first!
FYI, In the Middle Ages I believe Sudeley Castle was the home of the Seymours. Catherine Parr married Thomas Seymour at Sudeley castle. She's also buried there.
Love getting inside info! Thank you.
No, Wolf Hall was the family Home of the Seymourâs. Sudeley Castle was given to Thomas Seymour exclusively. Yes Catherine Parr married Thomas Seymour there and did her confinement and died of childbed fever at Sudeley. But when Thomas Seymour was convicted and beheaded for treason for trying ostensibly to kidnap Edward VI, all of his lands and titles were attainted (seized by the crown) Sudeley Castle itself was returned to Thomas and Catherineâs daughter Mary Seymour, but when she died in childhood, Sudeley reverted to the crown again, ending the Seymour connection.
Fascinating! Even the additional info by the other person who responded here, just to know Seymour, Parr (and I assume the future Queen E as well) who walked those very walls and yards, hundreds of years ago. So cool.

The ownership, operation, maintenance and repair is not the problem; itâs the inverted snobbery, petty, poisonous jealousy and abuse of power from the pinheads that donât own it but devote their careers to acquiring positions of power from which they can slowly plot to destroy it. They will be its eventual undoing. That is its legacy: to fade away at the hands of the rotten underbelly of modern humanity that wants to destroy what it canât have. On the other hand: âThe family ownership should be maintainedâŠ. without intrusive businessâŠ.â is the voice of entitlement by those lacking the ability to run what they own. To be fair, it will take great management ability to survive the relentless attacks from poisonous, jealous, petty little have-nots, but thereâs a certain justice in that: strong, well-run entities should survive, and poorly-run things should not. Itâs a Darwinian issue: survival of the fittest; but with the need for some humanity - let the current family live out their days without being bullied, but with the commitment to end their entitlement and become ACTIVELY value-adding.

Families in these huge estates really only have 2 options. Either you have a way to make enough money to support the estate and keep it as a private estate or your estate makes the money to support itself. It's very odd to me that these families don't seem to grasp this concept. Bottom line if you want your estate to be a private home you better have a very successful enterprise support it.
Massive roofs covering so many square feet, some roofs semi flat & some with steep slopes and odd angles & all sheathed with centuries old moss covered shale/stone shingles & surviving for so long, especially in a wet climate is an amazing testament to enduring materials & craftmanship in putting it all together, long lost art in todays world. One can only imagine the mold growing on the inner timbers & unseen framework from roof leaks that seep & are absorbed never appearing until its too late huge. Buildings that could be considered as castles were constructed in the US in the 18th and 19th centuries, many were private estates & many more used as schools, prisons, mental asylums & institutions & factories. Almost all built from stone or brick. Most those historic buildings or castles were razed many years ago due to the extreme cost of upkeep & maintenance & taxes, or the fact that the land they sat on was worth far more than the old building itself. An old 15 bedroom house built in 1900 in LA or San Francisco is torn down and in its place are built 150 2-3 story apartments and parking for all the tenents cars. The Apartments may last 40-50 years using todays shoddy building materials before they are out dated and due to be razed again for future use.
I canât imagine having a historical home as large as these are, passed down through generations and it consuming your life because of its importanceâŠbeing so overwhelmed and under budget with little hope of being able to do major structural work, only being able to apply band-aids to it all. My heart goes out to them and the love and dedication they have towards these grand homes.
throw on top some ridiculous inheritance and estate laws and it gets far worse.

If the daughter and son in law want to close the castle to the public, then I assume they have the finances to pay for the loss in income. Otherwise, the son and heir to the castle needs to come back to take over.
These houses are HISTORY. They should be kept up by the historical society. Lose these stately homes, lose your amazing history. It all tells a story. A rich story. Breaks my heart the troubles the owners/caretakers of these beautiful places have to deal with. Sad
What 'historical society'?
I am quite impressed with the family at Burton Court. The hospitality industry is a stressful business. I really hope they make it. The parents are very humble and gracious.
A lot of the noise is escaping the wedding reception venues because they are being held in a tent.
They should build a large soundproof reception hall.
If I was her I wouldn't hand the castle over. I would select a corner of the castle and have sound proof windows installed.
How about offering weekly or monthly elegant teas a go on these castle and large estates? They could have them outdoors on the terraces or under large tents on the lawns in fitting weather. They could have additional small tent to have private princess birthday party teas, bridal shower and baby shower teas. They could also rent out the terraces or lawns on weekends for venues the customers would have catered from outside that would include table and chairs, port a pots/loo and clean up. Basically the owners minimally would supply the site, to include parking and electric,
What a good idea.
They think they are too good for public outings like this.

They finally found a good balance and the place is doing well even without Molly's husband. Prime has a series on successful old English estates and Sudeley is one of them.
Don't know the tale of what happened to Molly's husband [forgot his name already] - but he definitely came across as the most 'up himself' of the cast of characters. Good if he is off the scene : he was definitely the most arrogant person in the family.
the contemporary sculpture garden was so pretentious..c'mon Molly grab your Hunter's and load a wheelbarrow already.
Spoiled children should move or pay up to run the home.
Some suggestions would be for the neighbors that complain about the noise at night, is to provide incentives to the entire community whenever there is a concert or musical event so that way the people that live near the castle are also benefiting from these events. You do not have to provide a whole lot but it can be done where everyone feels is benefiting from these events. You can also create a group of people where a percentage of those gains are put toward the community and the group of people that belong to that community can decide where they want those incentives to be put toward. If the people that live around the castle feel they are not getting anything in return but noise, they are going to make it very difficult for the castle to have big revenues. You must include everyone around, that is how you get people to work with you not against you. Just my humble opinion...
Really? I feel for them. It is a beautiful estate that should be preserved and kept in the family. You sound like you have sour grapes. I'm an American.
@@toniam.2080 I am an American as well, from California to be exact. I am providing a solution to the road block that they are encountering. If the neighbors get some incentives they will be more willing to let the musical events happen. Right now the neighbors are not getting anything so their thinking is "why should I put up with all that noise?" but if they felt they were also benefiting, these neighbors might be more in favor to allow these events in the castle. I do not think this is being sour, I see this as doing proactive solutions where everyone can feel they are getting something in return.
Excellent idea Jackie.. Huge expensive weddings bring in lots of revenue, a small percentage of that going to local charities, etc. would help bring the neighbors on board! Also, some small events a few times a year just for local people by invitation helps people feel included and respected.
@@jeanhind8198 Hi Jean, you nailed it the solution! we need to start thinking more of inclusiveness rather than exclusiveness, if we are to get people to work with us. If they were to include the neighbors, bring a senses of inclusion, appreciation and unity, even the neighbors would be advertising to get more musical events or weddings in the castle. When we are able to get people to work for a cause,a goal and they feel there is something bigger than their own selves in this case, the whole community would be benefiting, people are willing to give their all. Thank you Jean, you totally nailed the solution. :)
I was thinking the same. Promote the hotels and restaurant businesses and have them cater to the events.
Its so difficult to keep these old places going. Just to keep the roof from leaking is hard enough let alone try and keep everything else going too. And when it's been in the family forever it makes it harder to look at it in a straightforward manner, it's too close.
They need to be jack of all trades, a businessman, a bricky, a glazier, a roofer, wallpaperer, a cook, a cleaner you name it. I think they need to get their children, the next to take over, to learn these skills just to keep costs down.
I wonder how they went thru the pandemic

I enjoyed this documentary & history of this estate. It shows how difficult it is to maintain historic castles. I donât understand how the townspeople are not benefiting by the tourists & visitors. It creates jobs. The castle is huge. 1500 acres & noise travels that far that people are annoyed? They need to open it up as a bed & breakfast. So what is the problem with Lady Ashton having to share this huge castle! The rooms are antiquated. Who wants to live there anyway? Is there a historical commission that could take over? Itâs sad but this is the future. God bless those trying to preserve this treasure.
While I do know I'm late to the conversation... I have to agree with you. While they were talking about renovating the farmhouse and creating an extension towards the back for honeymooners. I thought that was a fantastic idea. While they are at it, the farmhouse can be its own farm and store, selling its homegrown produce. Towards the other end, the extension could have a bedroom, build-in closet, an en suite bathroom, and perhaps a sunroom attached to it (they can see outside but no one can look inside). We have the glass and technology for it. The land is quite big, they could in years to come build a small cottage home for Lady Ashcombe, where she can live quietly and happily. I do understand back then 2009 they were barely making an income but years later she could recover an excellent income if they allow guests to have the full castle experience. I wish there was a part two 2021 the after.
Also, they can in fact hire the townspeople to help with the castle outside and inside, they earn, the land earns, and minimal complaints.
I saw another place and he build a big soundproof building for the party's instead of a tent and some kind of wall to block the sound from travelling and disturbing the surroundings. And they have a part of the castle as bridal and guestrooms. They live in the castle themselves too. He's doing great. I forgot his name , I saw it on YT.
My heart goes out to these people trying to save a huge bit of country history as well as family history. Hope they get the help they need. If I had anything I would be glad to donate.
Dude there's homeless people
The son-in-law and daughter, but especially her husband, are tearing the place apart trying to pretend they can afford the upkeep on the property without the business, which they absolutely cannot.
The son is the only one who has the best interests of the property at heart.
"To limit the noise, David is staging the concert in a field behind the castle." Cue fly over, fireworks, and concert. đ
They should call The Mappelton owners, Julie is American too and a very hard working woman helping the Earl of Sandwiches with a lot of renovations and wonderful projects.
Sudeley⊠some people have no self awareness, do they? No concept how what they say and demand resonates with the world outside. And to me, the children as well as the Lady are equally detached from reality and snobbish. I donât envy the manager, I hope he gets well paid at least for all those headaches.
Duncan and Molly are terrible brats. I couldn't imagine them being my family muchless living with them.
I understand abt the privacy of the sudeley Castle, especially with children around... But seriously, how blind are the parents? You're bringing your children to live in a castle! It's a wonderfully gorgeous castle with tons of people wanting to pay money just to see it or have weddings there. Just have a wing for private living and put up the rest for public scheduled tours and events. And honestly, the guests weren't even that rowdy imo. Unless molly and Duncan can afford to pay the castle expenses themselves (not with govt support), they really have no say in this. Live with the castle viewings or move out đ
There can be a lot of options and ideas on how to make a profit from these castles & also use the money for upkeep & provide an income for the owner. Such a shame to see these places get so neglected for so many years.

One site states, The current owners are Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe, wife of Henry Edward Cubitt, 4th Baron Ashcombe, who owns 50 percent of the equity, and her two children - film-producer Henry (married to Hawaiian model Lili Maltese at the castle in 1998) and Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst - who each own 25 percent. This situation arose when the children's father, and Elizabeth's first husband, Mark Dent-Brocklehurst died intestate in 1972.
Beautiful estate, sad it divides the family. Duncan and Molly should stand down and go to Berlin or New York wich can offer the vibe they're looking for and leave things to Henry, he's got it right. You can't have it both ways nowadays, the Estate in the family AND privacy... I hope they find a liveable solution before it totally crumbles. Can't the National Trust help them? I wish it's open by the time I visit.
They should have taken every opportunity to share the last dying glory of the aristocracy in England. Share it with some humility as their illusionary concept of aristocracy is on it's finally breath. Really, once the Queens death is finally announced and the last Monarchy's wealth returned to the people, it's over. The 8 billion enslaved commoners worldwide will eventually have no respect or interest in up keeping such nonsense in their country as we slowly see it already materials. I sincerely hope the beautiful castle gardens of England will remain and perhaps become gardening centers and turned into agriculture schools for the future.
The National Trust gets many requests for saving. They only want homes that come with a foundation.
Blenheim is run by the family, the former druggie son lost his fatherâs favor and put the foundation in the hands of the trust and the Blenheim trustees.
I agree đđŸ
Itâs hard to feel sorry for these people trying to hang onto their large estates when ânormalâ people are just fighting to provide even the basics for their familiesâŠ
They are struggling, and feel entitled to maintaing the standard of living that they are accustomed to. Not sorry.
urghhhh I can see who you are without even knowing . . For Gods sake, you sad little creature
@@showmeyrkitties2335 , . ugly comment
When you make dinner for inner city kids, who promptly eat them on the floor of the hallways because their older siblings will steal their food, youâre right. I canât feel sorry for them.
Itâs an honor to have a history and a legacy. Just get on with it and donât moan.
Are you jealous? Sounds like it.. itâs just a different type of struggle for survival - apart from living in these houses, Iâm sure they have to live very modestly, because they canât afford more.
They have a large responsibility to the estates and history to keep it up, apart from the emotional attachment.
The sums involved for this Iâm sure we canât even imagine!
While I understand where youâre coming from, I would ask to also put yourself in their shoes. Youâd rather that all these historical buildings fall apart and are lost for future generations????
I THINK THATS SO BEAUTIFUL, I WISH I COULD VISIT A CASTLE, NOT ALONE LIVE IN ONE, I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE SPACE OF EXISTANCE WITH PEOPLE WHO LIVE THEREđđ
For the couple who closed the castle to the public, I know it was the husband's doing. His wife grew up there and had fond memories of the place. He just saw it as a cash cow and didn't mind tearing the family apart in order to bleed every drop of money out of the place. I guarantee he'll sell it later.
OMG! Kelburn looks EXACTLY like a crackhouse/brothel you would find in the Bronxs, NYC!! How shameful! 1000 years of heritage destroyed by someone with really horrible taste & judgement. If they were not putting the money back to do repairs over the last 30 years what did they spend it on? I wouldn't let a mosquito live there it is SO messy inside, run down and unloved! The government should make them move out, clearly the don't care about the castle. DO any of them have a real job?
I agree with you, they all just seem completely out of touch with reality, that Lord needs to get a haircut and you dont see him doing much except laughing and what I also cant understand is how do they let the places get into such a bad state of repair??? You can see that in some places it has been left to rot for years and years.......
They didn't cause they hadn''t the money.
That lazy Viscount of Kelburn is suppose to be an Architect and his familynseat looks like That? And making his old Nanny work like a dog and the poor old butler/event planner etc.!? AND what about the rest of the useless extended titled family, why have they let their family Castle fall into ruins? They really pissed me off and I don't even know them, Thank God!!đđ
A lot will have jobs , many of which don't pay well & with most estates having sold their land , they now have very few options to generate income - like in excess of ÂŁ50,000:00 per annum just to start catching up on the maintainence .
I thought they were joking and photoshopped that graffiti on there, I'm shocked and appalled he did that to that beautiful old castle! And what for?! What a full on idiot!
It is so lovely and inspiring to see the success of the Spencers and others. This is to Burton Court: Congrats to the hard work of the son. In terms of the color of The Red room they were setting up, itâs truly a wretched color. (Just to be blunt & I say this with respect). Change the Color of this lovely room.
Helen is absolutely adorable â€ïž
I cannot for the life of me understand how the historical society could let Viscount David's grafitti project go ahead..............
Exactly, when I heard this I thought to myself "What has this idiot been smoking?!" Yes, go on and grafitti the walls of tour centuries old castle....
I cringed when he said that. Sigh.
Especially when you consider, I had bought an old miners house, and the slatted terrace end was âlistedâ and I couldnât even paint it without permission. And, if I did paint it, it had to be black! đł
@@pommiebears Very understandable in your situation. Historically listed properties are a pain to restore (even in the US the red tape you have to go through to even make structural improvements or repairs is INSANE!). The worst part was reading that they PAID $20K pounds (USD $24K) for it and the village only allowed them to have their installation up for a 3 year period. They have to remove the graffiti since it's damaging the façade of the castle and are fighting the village to keep it up. I mean, here you have a cash-stripped castle owner who fiscally can't operate or manage his estate, then you spend more money on top of this for a hideous graffiti style art, on top you'll have to pay someone to remove the graffiti and restore the façade because the paint is ruining the stone. Rather than making this a tourist hot spot, he's made it into a bleeding monetary faucet. I feel like if you were to inherit an estate such as this, all of the heirs should be obligated to take several courses in business, finance, hospitality and management to not end up in the red and make their home a profitable business venture.
A very old show. Kelburn has a big equestrian centre, a place called the garden party and the castle is obviously open for visitors. Old things around. Clothing, very old computers, early 90s
2006. The manager mentions it.
WOW! it reminds me of the movie Bucchaneers (1995) where men with titles married American socialites so that they could keep / restore their stately homes... and it was a win win situation because the Americans wanted to marry their daughters off to dukes earls and viscounts, while the so called gentlemen who never worked a day in their lives could sell their titles off to the wealthiest bidders... They should have themed parties like Pride and Prejudice, Sense and sensibility, Emma, Bridgerton, Downton Abbey etc ... where the guests come in COSPLAY for the London "season" where debutantes find their perfect match...or a medieval re-enactment of Lady Godiva.. Game of Thrones? Or better yet, an offline dating party of sorts with themes like Jane Austin, Charlotte Bronte, even Barbara Cartland?...C'mon be more creative...ballroom dancing with Mr Darcy? not just weddings for rowdy guests... but more cultured and respectable ... jus sayin' ...
Wonderful ideas !
I love your ideas!
I totally agree. If I visited a castle Iâd want it âfeelâ the history and savor every precious moment. Iâd be sadly disappointed to see another persons vision of modern art distracting from the integrity of the entire experience.
Great ideas!
My Fathers mother's father was James William Brocklehurst. His Father immigrated to USA from England.
so that would be your Great Grandfather then?
@@patriciakidd8661 Yes
You just have to know when to let go!! Unfortunately, money is needed far more than love of the property.
2022 update on these castles:
"Mummy" still lives in and insists on running Sudeley Castle. Lady Ashcombe's children and grandchildren still all live on the grounds. Apparently they came to some sort of compromise because they did expand to 10 gardens and the main castle is open to visitors daily.
Edward proved to have quite a head for business and his parents were foolish for not listening to him. Once Burton Court was handed over to him and his wife they've turned it into quite the destination wedding venue and hotel.
Patrick Boyle still lives in Kelburn Castle. They've increased visitors by installing a car park and allowing walking passes for hiking on the grounds as well as a camping area. Changes are slow and guests regularly complain about the food, cleanliness and of being "bored" while visiting. Apparently it has become a fun daytrip for kids.
I guess everyone wasn't fortunate enough to give birth to an Edward.
YES! I think that Edward was just nervous and worried in the early years. I believe his parents may have both passed, but his desperate venture has blossomed nicely.
The reviews from the guests are stellar.
He has a wife and two children now, and has really built up a nice business. Plucky man, I say.
As an attorney, I would be interested to see the contractual agreements for the estate. I get that Lady Ashcombe has a life interest in tne castle, but how is it that promogeniture did not kick in when her husband died, thereby leaving Henry as the only son, the sole heir to the estate? What kind of testamentary arrangement has 3 family members in control of the property? Very strange.
Avoid 40% of value of said property in now called Death Duties that the government puts on them? Perhaps the aristocracy should just except they are a dying breed? Apply for " endangered status " as monarchy is dying everywhere ? Also speaking as a non-socialist or non-communist, I don't think even the 8 billion enslaved peoples are backing them up in anyway in the future, especially from the British Monarchy as all their hidden evils keep dripping out every year.
Itâs not strange actually, the Biltmore estate is done the same way
I thought her husband died when the children were still quite young ?
Where is the son anyway ? They hardly mention him at all.
well obviously then, there was a will and it was specified who would have control or ownership.
The old man said buying the Burton court was the best thing he ever did and its 100% reality
Excellent documentary.
Beautiful photography and production
Absolutely gorgeous homes
I đ love the unique personalies and charm of the older couple at Burton Court ! The son is a hardworking guy but he should be absolutely ashamed of the way he treated his parents. They were kind enough to invest their whole life savings into a business venture that may not work out so he could have a future at Burton. Of course they would benefit too but they could have lived off their Savings! The way he treated his parents was shameful and especially hurtful to his dear Mom. He should have found a special little job for her to do and involved her just to make her feel useful and needed. After all....They are the real personalities of Burton Court that make it so special to begin with. It broke my heart to see her sadness. Where was his compassion for his sweet Mom when she was selling all her precious antiques and her memories to get the money they invested in his risky business idea ??? I hope he sees the show and says he is sorry to her and gives her a big hug. I wish I could! And the Dad is hilarious. Everyone loved him when they gave the tour. He should take advantage of his parents charm not push them out ! đŠđ·đ»ââŁ
Howâs your day going today my friend
I agree... his disrespectful behaviour had me swearing đ€Ź
I enjoy this topic, the video is very much appreciated
Instead of just selling fresh berries they should think about making jam or jelly operation and charge more for their product itâs called value added in a longer shelflife for the product they do can
My instant take on this Sudely Castl e..was make some family space...slightly away, do the events, make smaller very elite ones the norm.. maybe, take pride in the castle, the gardens and the absolute privilige. It comes with responsibility.
music events starting early and going late? what is wrong with these people. just start later like 1 pm, and close earlier, by 10 or 11 pm. Most people aren't going to stay that long anyway. And turn the volume down so it's appropriate for a relatively small crowd ( from what i saw).
There are a lot of things to do to make this profitable. You need a secretary Molly and her family can live in one part of castle, ad well as lady Ashton. Having weddings, birthday parties and business meetings
Have companies rent areas and do seminars. You can have Xmas parties fashion shows and New Years eve parties.Hire a bus service to pick folks up and take them home. You don't want drunks on the road. Have Tupperware parties, bridal parties and dinner for people getting married at a church.Hire a Manager to oversea everything. Some of that land that's way from castle you can build 1 bedroom apartments. When I think of more stuff you can do I will comment again.
It seems as if molly wants her cake and eat it
Well said! There's plenty of ideas!
*Real Royalty appreciate your videos Listening đ from Mass USA TYVM đ*
I would use Flex seal tape to patch the holes in the roof .
Lady so-and-so of Sudeley Castle ... She was FABULOUS with Sir Robert Hardy, in the Learning Channel's 1995 blockbuster series, "Castle Ghosts of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales."
I felt as though she--of all the Owners, had the most to say, out of the 4-part series.
[*Edit She had the most to say in the series regarding a paranormal "atmosphere", and brilliantly worded.~ ]
What lovely people. So sad to see their homes falling apart. Good luck, folks... hope things improve soon.
đđ
Oh,she loves Suttley like she did her husband that died so young , I think Mollie's idea for the sculpture garden are wonderful.!
They act like castles havenât ALWAYS been epicenters for parties. Like they have always been that way, since the Middle Ages and even before.
And what exactly does David, Lord Glasgowâs son do?
He said he's an architect and too busy to deal with the castle. Doesn't stop him from having time to complain and joke about everything though.
not much except laugh it seems
Whinge about coffee
Drugs drugs drugs and more drugs!
Rich kids can they just be kind to their mom ask her what can make her happy đ she seems a nice lady.
If the last family was smart they would set up those glamp camping tents...the dome style near the waterfront and could have charged massive amounts. It's unreal. They have literally squandered what they were handed by not thinking outside the fucking box
Makes me sad about the couple in Burton court. It's just too much for all of them. Heartbreaking. They definitely have tenacity.
So many were lost. Great doc !
Howâs your day going today my friend?
I would have sold it an moved back to Kentucky long ago, the kid's need to move out and buy their own homes, the sister with her goofy art needs to buy a hairbrush instead of smoking the helium she uses for those 'art work' balloons, good grief..
Thank you so much for the wonderful documentary to our wedding traditional event occasion featuring love ever much love to all my future families.
Very amazing gardens and very spectacular view.
