Review: Darth Maul Life Size Bust by Sideshow Collectibles

- Since his debut in the Phantom Menace, Darth Maul has become a legend in the rich Star Wars mythos. He is simply one of the most awesome looking characters from the beloved series, and that double lightsaber is just too cool! This bust is actually the second for the character from Sideshow. Does it top the first one? Watch the review and find out.

Your reviews are by far the absolute BEST on CZcams! Always such a pleasure to watch! Love the matching T-shirts as well 😁
Ha ha, I try to coordinate the shirts if I can, lol. Thanks for the compliments, and thanks for watching!
Geez he looks mean like that...he is really well done..Thanks for showing him.
Definitely one mean dude!
I agree this version is better then the first edition, with the hood on he looks sick. I would like to see glass eyes.
Yeah, unfortunately Sideshow seems comfortable being “entry level”, so I don’t see them ever stepping up with using glass eyes etc.
DAMN, HE LOOKS AWESOME, MAD CONGRATS. HE IS MY SECOND FAVORITE STAR WARS CHARACTERS. AFTER YODA.👊🏽
Can't argue with Yoda!
I agree about the eyes. Its a lot of money for a bust like this. I think $700 is a fair price. not $1000
Exactly. I think, for the money, they can push it a little more.
Glad I cancelled mine
So glad to see you do another review. And what a piece to pick! Loved your review...love the bust! Even though I'm late, going ahead and pulling the trigger on this. Otherwise, I know I will regret it later. Thanks!!!
Nice pickup, I think you will like it.
Awesome review as usual! I agree with your critiques. The skin texture has a muted look to it. Wish they'd do glass eyes as well.
Nice looking bust. Good honest in-depth review.
Thanks!
I have this...Great Piece and Great review as always!!!
Thanks, Victor!
lovely stuff
Thanks for watching!
Really cool. I don't collect Star Wars statues or busts but Darth Maul is one of the coolest characters to ever come from Star Wars. I completely agree about the skin texture (or lack thereof). You can get away with no textures on statues because they are smaller and don't have as much space to fill but on a life size piece you really need it or else it comes off looking more cartoonish and less realistic. Other than that its a really nice piece.
Thanks for watching!
great and hones review, i like it.
really digging for dis one and i think it looks good to pair with the kylo ren 😎 which one do u prefer kris the old one bust or this one?
The new one, 100%.
I have had this fir about a week now and agree with the critiques esp regarding glass eyes and the smoothness of the skin /lack of skin texture. Also imo the hollowness (?plastic) of his head is disappointing . Tailoring and overall sculpt/presence is lovely. But I do agree with those who say he should be a little cheaper . As a counterpoint to those saying QS would do a better version . Undoubtedly yes BUT at a MUCH higher price point . I guarantee that if SS do add acrylic / glass eyes to their LSBs they will go up to meet the QS in price (as they did with XM). Its amazing as retail on OG busts like Grievous (which I would argue were better) was 400. I am someone who cannot see this “race to the top” as sustainable long term (or hope it isn’t)
Prices are definitely getting out of hand. Definitely starts to take some of the fun out of the hobby.
Could you elaborate a little on what exactly makes glass/acrylic eyes so much more realistic? I've never seen any to be fair, but I don't really see the problem with the eyes on this one at all.
Acrylic/glass eyes look like a real eyeball. Queen Studios, for example, use medical grade eyes that would be used for people with glass eyes. A factory painted eye can’t come close to matching the realism. Look up the Queen Studios T-800 life size bust as an example (I have a video of it from NYCC 2019).
Man if queen studios did it, they would kill it.
They most likely would!
Bravo
Thank you!
