Chairman Fred Hampton was 21 years old when he was assassinated by the FBI, who coerced a petty criminal named William O’Neal to help them silence him and the Black Panther Party. But they could not kill Fred Hampton’s legacy and, 50 years later, his words still echo…louder than ever.
I am a revolutionary!
In 1968, a young, charismatic activist named Fred Hampton became Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, who were fighting for freedom, the power to determine the destiny of the Black community, and an end to police brutality and the slaughter of Black people.
Chairman Fred was inspiring a generation to rise up and not back down to oppression, which put him directly in the line of fire of the government, the FBI and the Chicago Police. But to destroy the revolution, they had to do it from both the outside…and the inside. Facing prison, William O’Neal is offered a deal by the FBI: if he will infiltrate the Black Panthers and provide intel on Hampton, he will walk free. O’Neal takes the deal.
Now a comrade in arms in the Black Panther Party, O’Neal lives in fear that his treachery will be discovered even as he rises in the ranks. But as Hampton’s fiery message draws him in, O’Neal cannot escape the deadly trajectory of his ultimate betrayal.
Though his life was cut short, Fred Hampton’s impact has continued to reverberate. The government saw the Black Panthers as a militant threat to the status quo and sold that lie to a frightened public in a time of growing civil unrest. But the perception of the Panthers was not reality. In inner cities across America, they were providing free breakfasts for children, legal services, medical clinics and research into sickle cell anemia, and political education. And it was Chairman Fred in Chicago, who, recognizing the power of multicultural unity for a common cause, created the Rainbow Coalition-joining forces with other oppressed peoples in the city to fight for equality and political empowerment.
“Judas and the Black Messiah” stars Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out,” “Widows,” “Black Panther”) as Fred Hampton and LaKeith Stanfield (“Atlanta,” “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”) as William O’Neal. The film also stars Jesse Plemons (“Vice,” “Game Night,” “The Post”), Dominique Fishback (“The Hate U Give,” “The Deuce”), Ashton Sanders (“The Equalizer 2,” “Moonlight”) and Martin Sheen (“The Departed,” TV’s “The West Wing,” TV’s “Grace & Frankie”).
“Judas and the Black Messiah” is directed by Shaka King, marking his studio feature film directorial debut. The project originated with King and his writing partner, Will Berson, who co-wrote the screenplay, and Kenny Lucas & Keith Lucas, who co-wrote the story with Berson & King. King, who has a long relationship with filmmaker Ryan Coogler (“Black Panther,” “Creed,” “Fruitvale Station”), pitched the film to Coogler and Charles D. King (“Just Mercy,” “Fences”), who are producing the film. The executive producers are Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, Kim Roth, Poppy Hanks, Ravi Mehta, Jeff Skoll, Anikah McLaren, Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Cloth, Ted Gidlow, and Niija Kuykendall.
The ensemble cast also includes Algee Smith (“The Hate U Give,” “Detroit”), Darrell Britt-Gibson (“Just Mercy,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Dominique Thorne (“If Beale Street Could Talk”), Amari Cheatom (“Roman J. Israel, Esq.,” “Django Unchained”), Caleb Eberhardt (“The Post”), and Lil Rel Howery (“Get Out”).
The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Sean Bobbitt (“12 Years a Slave,” “Widows”), production designer Sam Lisenco (“Shades of Blue”), editor Kristan Sprague (“Random Acts of Flyness”) and costume designer Charlese Antoinette Jones (“Raising Dion”).
The film is a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, in association with MACRO Films, Participant and BRON Creative, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. - Zábava

For me ... I didnt understand a word
When you watch the movie you see these men in their 30s...but the actual people were teenagers and in their early 20s. That makes it more powerful to me...and shows 1. How educated they were able to be that young and why "they" attacked the education system. And 2. How desperate the situation had to be for the youth to feel it dire to put their lives on the line. My God
Don’t worry sis recompense is coming for every move the heathen has made against our people…keep watching ❤shalom
So true, I just watched the movie and it's amazing how incredible these young people were. I was shook when I learned at the end that he was only 21. We've lost so much self awareness and passion as a community. Thank you to the story tellers for reminding us how far we've come.
The youth are always the freedom fighters. Young men fight the wars of old men.
and the conditions for it are returning
All before the internet too, and that is what makes it crazy, imagine if they had the kind of information we do now with the power and drive to be something. We have all lost out, lost out on getting to know who we truly are, no one knows how to an be individual anymore. Being yourself is easy when you know who you are, and when you can help yourself you can help others.
Kaluuya sounds like he’s about to win an Oscar for this role.

Man the way he captures Hampton’s speech pattern is insane, man that takes skill.
I’m not trying to sound like a hater but he did not capture Fred Hamptons speech pattern he tried and he failed. He tried to sound like a stereotypical black man from the 60s and 70s and it was obvious he didn’t know how to imitate his speech pattern. There were times where I couldn’t even understand what this man was trying to say. When I listen to speeches from Fred Hampton the only time I couldn’t understand him was when there was poor audio quality. I appreciate the acting, the story, cinematography, and the overall message. Please don’t mistake my honest critique as hating.
@@ezanakassu I mean, I respect your opinion but I totally disagree. Im no expert but I’m willing to bet Erik Singer would share my same sentiment.
@@TonyTana9905 Erik Singer is not the authority on black American speech pattern. He brings in black people to speak on that subject because he doesn’t know nor can he imitate us without sounding disrespectful and offensive. I bet money he’ll say he did a shit job. Just take the time yourself to listen to the real Fred Hampton and compare it to the movie. Even his famous line “ you can jail a revolutionary but you can’t jail a revolution” was distinct and he fucked that up. He didn’t even say the right words he said “murder” instead of “jail”.
I was thinking the same thing.
Plus his British , which makes it even more impressive .

This is a story LONG overdue that needs to be taught to our youth. Fred Hampton was uniting black and white working class; really scaring the establishment swamp creatures.
Rational PoC Triggered?
Rational PoC Fred Hampton was not “funded”. He was a broke 21 year old college student.
@Rational PoC someone who was "funded" would've been able to afford actual protection instead of just having a friend stand at the door with a shotgun during party meetings.
@Rational PoC That's really fucking stupid so no, that's not something a rational person would understand. He could've had more guards, but that would've guaranteed police harassment, whereas with one guard he was subject to a planned raid by multiple municipal, state and federal agencies. He was 21 years old. Really fucking think on what you're saying right now on a college student that was brutally executed after being incapacitated for committing no crime. No he did not fight back or try to run, he was in bed.
And he was a young man. Imagine what he would have done at age 40, 60. He had it right. They murdered him in his sleep !
Dear Lord! This is the best trailer I've seen in a while.

"Judas, you will betray me." - Jesus Christ
The thing is, he was literally referred to as a "black messiah" figure in government documents. They feared he would do exactly what he said he wanted to do, unite oppressed peoples against the government and corporations. That's why they murdered him.
But the messiah want black... I get the message and all but that’s like saying, “White panther on the scene.”

@@nestleblack9468 how was it ??
A film right on time!!! Every story has an angle. And this side needs to be shared. It shows how young men of color was forced not only into chain gangs and other forms of punishment, but forced to become informants. Facing five years in prison, it's hard to say how each of us would have acted, especially in the turbulent 60's and when we were being chased home by mobs of people (yes, my sister and I dealt with this in our young lives) and other acts of violence. But sadly O'Neals choice led to the death of two rising leaders, something that he had to wrestle with until the remainder of his life. RIP Angels. Kudos to Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith, and the producers for sharing stories that need to be told!
This movie is about Black history but doesn’t feel like race/Oscar bait. Trailer makes it seem like a thriller. I’m in for sure.
This caliber of trailer is what happens when you care about the movie rather than leaving it to some Hollywood production house with some guy in a dark room who doesn’t really care about a perceived “black movie” and is doing the cookie cutter thing.

"I'm going to die for the people because I live for the people. I'm going to live for the people because I love the people." Learning about Fred Hampton for the first time in my life, has singlehandedly brought me out of the intense depression and activism burnout that I've been experiencing for months now. I now have hope.
That's great to hear! Listen to this to learn more about Chairman Fred. All power to the people!!! ✊✊✊

Glad you're doing better. Remember it's ok to take time for yourself. Self care is important. Sending you hugs 🤗

Armon Williams The FBI is the worst terrorist organization of the “black” community
Haaaa! No bullshyt
0:38 I just realized they timed his feet with the beat. This was a good trailer.
wooooow this is what i call a gooood eye))
Fred Hampton was an incredible figure. So interested to see this.
Strange how as soon as Malcolm, Fred, and Martin all started ideologically leaning left and forming multicultural initiatives, they were killed.
one_Pang Media I’m pretty sure malcolm was a nationalist chad
MLK's house was fire bombed way before that.
Yeah.. The white elite in the US have historically always benefitted from painting Black people as a threat to middle and lower class white folks prosperity (since the 1700s)
@Rational PoC LOL. Soros, if he funds anything, are only nice "civil" organizations. His donations are a tax write off. He does it to co-opt and control.
It's the "radicals" like Fred Hampton that get killed off because they threaten capitalism itself. Either they try to co-op radical movements, or like Hampton, MLK, and Malcolm they are killed. Soros, Trump, Clinton... they would all unite to make sure no one gets their wealth.
@Rational PoC Sorry man. Cant take you seriously.
Hampton was a socialist, and was uniting every radical organization in the rainbow coalition (Young Lords, Brown Berets, Black Panthers, etc.), even white workers. I don't see how that was .... being a puppet. Try doing that these days and your bound to get outcries everyone on their identity politics. But instead, he was killed off. If he were successful, I'm pretty sure this coaltion would have gotten rid of capitalism... not sure how (probably through the state, tbh not my preferred version of socialism). But. We'll never know.
Seen the movie over and over.. STILL GET GOOSEBUMPS WATCHING THE TRAILER😢👏🏾👏🏾🔥🔥
Just watched it. If you're still contemplating, don't. Just do it.
Right powerful watched it a yr ago still shook up from it so powerful!!
If 'shaka king' isn't the most badass name i've ever heard as an african...
King Shaka was actually a terrible person lol
@@michaelmataranyika8434 Hehe, he was. But that name tho!

Are u sure about that? Who's your source?
For being British, Daniel Kaluuyas American accent is really good.
Rohan Ramani English**** if your talking about accents he has an English accent. No such thing as a British accent
@@ladies_man217. Since we are being pedantic, he does not have an English accent per se, he has a mixed up South London accent :)
Oluwaseun Adegbenro each to their own 🤗✊
@@ladies_man217. 😊
@Brum Man I see your point about how it’s an English accent and not a British accent but across the pond here in the states, British and English are used interchangeably.

This is enough to get goosebumps...
Agreed.
That eyebrow raise from the fed is so harrowing. After Hampton saying "you can't murder freedom" its almost as if the gesture is saying "can't we? 😉"
Its kinda funny nowadays whenever they say 'Only in theaters'...
Old school !!!
@@Wolshanze Aaaand Looks like you're still in 1944?

I hope it comes out on tv. I’m not tryna catch corona and become a black panther at the same time. I really don’t want corona at all.

"Deputy Chairman Fred Hampton of the Illinois Black Panther Party"
What an introduction! I always find my way back to this trailer, always!
Best trailer ever!!
Straight CHILLS from that line alone!
The way he embodied Fred's accent!
I keep finding my way back to Fred even after learning about him over twenty years ago. The Rainbow Coalition lives.
Kgaogelo, you are so amazingly beautiful! I was wondering, would it be possible for us to be able to connect and talk? I'd love to get to know you.
