This was the very first time I ever heard Madonna. I was walking around the outside of my house, and passed by my sister's bedroom window (while she was listening to the song) and I asked her "Who's that?" and I remember my sister saying she thinks it's someone called Madonna.... Very vivid memory!

Borderline became Madonna's first top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number ten in June 1984.
The song deals with the subject of a love that is never fulfilled and was written as a rebellion against male chauvinism.

Other songs to check out Like a Virgin, Poppa Don't Preach, Into the Groove, Express Yourself, Cherish, Crazy for You, Justify My Love, Open Your Heart, Holiday, Lucky Star, and This Use to be my Playground from the movie A League of Their Own.

I’ve never heard this extended version before. Madonna was the 80’s queen, the IT girl. She basically ruled the pop charts. You had to live the 80’s to understand what a global phenomenon she was, it can’t be explained with just words.

This was early Madonna pre superstar fame. She exploded with her spicy "Like A Virgin" performance at the 1984 MTV music awards show. This, "Lucky Star", and "Holiday" I believe came before that jaw dropping live MTV performance. You should actually react to that video!!! It was on par with Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" moonwalk performance. All the girls in my JrHS class almost overnight started wearing the Madonna or Cyndie Lauper look.

Madonna debuted her 1st album in 1982 (she was 24), the first two songs were a club tune called Everybody and then Burning Up (really should check it out). Her first hit was Holiday (#16 on the Billboard 100) and then Lucky Star (#4) followed by Borderline (#10). Her voiced really matured when she starred as Eva Peron in the movie version of Evita. She had to train to be able to sing the musical score which was not in her normal octave range.

Please also do her songs “Crazy for you” and “Live to tell.” 2 more MEGA hits- (folks oddly seem to forget about “Live to tell” which was in the movie “At Close Range” with to be husband Sean Penn) Her songs are very versatile- 👆🏻those are quite different from this one that was quite early in her career- And she has one called “Justify my love.” Definitely do that one too! Be prepared!! 😁😉 Oh! When y’all can, y’all should definitely watch her Docu-movie where cameras just follow her around on tours,etc.. There’s lots of tid bits and info in the/ VERY intriguing! It’s called “Madonna- Truth or Dare.” She don’t hold back or give in.. She had to be one of the most hardest working artists of the 80's and she was very versatile. Her earlier songs (I think her song "Holiday" was her breakout song) and, like this one (she was maybe 25/26 years old here), she used her higher register voice. A few years later she had the Marilyn Monroe look going on (see "Material Girl" and one of my favorites of hers is "Live to Tell) with a bit lower register - not a lot though. My three top favorites of hers because it's hard to choose, is (as I said) "Live to Tell" - very emotional and sad song from the movie "Live to Tell"; "Papa Don't Preach" and "Isla Bonita". In the 90's, though, I think her album was called "Ray of Light"? That one had some good ones too. She's definitely a legend!

Yes! This track was off her first album “Madonna” released in late 1982. Her vocals for first two albums, “Madonna”, and “Like a Virgin” were very high pitched and had a very girlish timbre to them. At the time, critics described her vocals as sounding like “Minnie Mouse on Helium.” By her third album “True Blue” her voice got deeper and she had more depth, which would only increase the further her career grew.

I remember Madonna hitting the airwaves on MTV in 1983. This song BORDERLINE and another one called BURNING UP set the stage for her ascent up the charts. These videos got more attention once LUCKY STAR was released at the end of that year. It included her signature Boy Toy look that young girls everywhere mimicked as Madonna went on to dominate music and culture at 25 years old. We are the same age.
Her release of her next album, LIKE A VIRGIN caused a stir with its title to start with. Do yourself a favor and watch her upset and excite her going audience at the MTV Awards for her live performance of LIKE A VIRGIN. The only thing that comes close is her 1992 dance recital of VOGUE from the Dick Tracy movie soundtrack.
Lastly, Madonna has a song she made shortly after announcing her pregnancy with her first child, Loudes. It's called, MUSIC. She plays a bad- ass girl riding through town in the back of her limo snd having a great time. Enjoy.

You need to listen to the song LIVE TO TELL by Madonna, VERY POWERFUL and SOUL TOUCHING SONG. Madonna was a TRENDSETTER and BEFORE her time, she paved the way women that wasn't SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE during those times, DEFINITELY a DIVA!

Madonna fought a day to day battle, trying to get her name out there in the 70s,thats why she took on alot of "cheap" modeling jobs that really didnt pay her too well, but she did what she needed to do,to survive. And in the distant, her dream was to make enough contacts out there, and get her name known well enough to land a record label contract. Her breakthrough came in the early 80s (1983,and the hit was "Everybody" wich came on her self titled debut album) Some think its a song like Lucky Star, but the funfact is that Lucky Star came together with Everybody on the same album in 1983. But Lucky Star has 22 Million views on youtube, while Everybody "only" has 7,1 Million views,so its easy to think that Lucky Star was her first,as most dont really know about Everybody. (Apart from hardcore supporters of Madonna)
My absolute favourite female artist there has ever been. One of the reasons why my love for her is so great,is that she choosed to fight a battle on behalf on all socalled "minorities" out there. She mixed her male backup dancers with white, latino, black++ guys, and all of them but 1 was gay. And the 1 straight guy used to be homophobic he admits himself.... Madonna had a plan with everything she did,and like her dancers said: They knew that her door was always open for them, they could come to her with anything troubling theyr mind. She truly became like a loving sister to them. And the most touching part is that when 3 of them got exposed with having the HIV virus, everyone expected them to get fired by Madonna. (She runs business with an iron fist) But she didnt, she embraced them and made sure they were still in her future plans.
Theyr relationship sadly ended because of a business disagreement,i know Madonna wanted to use a kiss between 2 of the dancers, while they didnt want to have that in any documentary (something along thoose lines) And they drifted apart after that..... But i think they have had a reunion and talked things over after this. I recommend to watch the videos called: Madonna's ex-backup dancers Dare to speak their Truth. There is also one called: Strike a pose - Documentary on Madonna's Dancers | American Latino. Very heartwarming and inspirational videos, but Asia probably needs to keep a tissue close. (Not a reaction request this, you can go ahead and watch it when you can)
Some people say that Madonna is a crazy person and does alot of .....weird stuff. Well,i cant tell them they are lying. I got a friend that met her backstage,he was soo excited as he is a die hard fan,but when she saw him she was like "get that stupid kid out of my effin face!",she totally ignored him and disrespected him. But he didnt stop fanboying on her,as a matter of fact he thought she might have had a bad, stressfull day and she was obviously rushing to get somewhere,so it was okay he said. So that she was and is abit of a Diva? She most certainly is..... but she has done soo much for people with different skincolours, other female artists that came up after her,an easier life for gay/lesbian people after seeing how she specificly hired gay men as her backup dancers. I guess its no big surprise by this length that i am a huge supporter myself, they say i write ALOT about stuff im passionate about. Madonna is my favourite female solo artist,Prince is my favourite male solo artist. Somehow, both of them are accused of being abit extra, abit Diva-ish and "weird". But its alright, they are not doing anything really harmfull or too disrespectful in my eyes. (Long live Princes memory)

in the '80s they raised pitch on female vocals to make them sound teen-like. that was common. 'everybody' was her first hit, I believe.

That high girlish vocal register was a common trend of the period among female pop singers. It wasn't their natural voice, but rather a performance style.
