I don’t think this is as much for tracking kidnapped dog as much as it is for run aways. I live in the mountains and if my dog took off it would be actually impossible to find him up here without a gps and knowledge of these peaks and the woods that surround them.
apple tags don't use gps. sorry not sorry. your apple tags and samsung tags "piggy-bag" off other apple tags, i-phones, etc in order for their technology to work. on the other hand, gps works anywhere that usa gps is the standard (as long as you have line of sight).
There are trackers for cats. Tractive makes a good one where you don't need to pay monthly in certain situations, it just comes down to cellular reception.
