I have the Trekker model which I keep in y survival kit. Pretty cool knife. It’s interesting that the Alox Farmer model wasn’t issued to the military since it has the wood saw.
That's the first time I have seen the '54 vintage knife, very cool. I have an '83 soldier and was considering buying the updated soldier but I'm not sure I want the serrated blade, so while I'm thinking that over I bought a Rangergrip 78. Not really a pocket knife I know but kind of a cool knife. Thanks for showing your soldier collection.
Thanks man, great basic overview of the Soldier! I think it’s cool you have the 93 with the hollow rivet. Another interesting one I have been looking into lately is the 87 with the little spot for the stamp but blank since they no longer required it as of that year.
awesome vid Dan, Thanks. Im still rocking my Climber. I do have the one hand trekker, but it lives in my truck. The climber has scissors and I just got to have scissors......lol.
Thanks for the video Dan , great stuff as always. I prefer the alox soldier knives, much more pocket friendly. I’m using a cadet at the moment, lovely size and great for my nails I just miss the scissors ✂️, take, care and greetings from England 🏴
It can also double as a glass breaker in certain cases, but wear a glove or wrap a towel on your hand before using it in such a manner, or alternatively, it makes a very fine striker for the magnesium rod,
I carry my Soldier 2008 111mm with me on a daily basis, just a red nylon fibre cord with lock and in my pocket it goes but I waiting on getting a nylon sheath, not that I am expecting any trouble, but like having with me, makes me feel confident and calm, plus it helps when I get beers with the lads and gals, Really wish I could get a 1961 Alox Soldier Model,
Love that 08 update version awesome EDC. My question is why didn't they put one handed opening way back then like 80 yes ago. It's a solider knife just saying awesome knife.
Hi nice video. I bought the alox soldier (without the lanyard hole) in 1996 when I joined the British Army. The British Army knife was crap in comparison. I've heard many people talking about the switch release on the new model and that it's on the wrong side or for left handed people. This is actually incorrect. It's a safety feature. It means when using the knife under pressure in the right hand you can't accidentally push the slide across. Really nice review. I love my knife but can't understand why they took away the lanyard hole, I've always missed not having one.
The corkscrew and mp hook are the ONLY tools that have any business being on the back of a knife and opening to 90°. All others should on the front side and open to 180°. They had that figured out with the soldiers before 2008, and then passed on the sinful ways of the officers knives. :)
I had an 08 Soldier and I grew to hate the blade. Don't know why Victorinox made it not only a combination serrated and straight edge blade but put them backwards. Serrated blades are difficult to sharpen. Great saw, etc, but I ended up selling it.
the first swiss army knifes were made in germany, cuse in switzerland there wasnt a cutlery maker\blacksmith that could make a swiss army knife to issue the military, the man who founded victorinox organized an association of cutlers in switzerland then they started making the swiss army knives, wenger is older than victorinox actually
to close the blade on the trekker model with your right hand you dont need to use 2 hands... i have the german surplus version, which is the same as the one in the video
I enjoyed your video Dan. Nice job ... I can't decide between the SAK and the GAK. Both are cool and basically the same knife but the GAK would be something different since I already have 40 SAK's lol.👍👊
I haven't counted them a while but I got rid of quite a few, mostly duplicates and ones I just decided I didn't need. I probably have less than a hundred now
I am not an expert on adherents but I've heard of people using very tiny amounts of glue to keep the scales on. I emphasize a small amount, just on top of the rivet.
@@swissarmydan9354 But considering I want to do this what type of Poxipol would you suggest? i.dedeman.ro/media/catalog/product/cache/dedeman/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/5/0/5000445.jpg or should I use these i.dedeman.ro/media/catalog/product/cache/dedeman/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/1/2/126718_big.jpg and i.dedeman.ro/media/catalog/product/cache/dedeman/image/1320x1320/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/5/0/5000146_3.jpg
There's another Victorinox, the Forester or something, that's pretty much this exact knife with a corkscrew on the back like you wanted.
Finally something for lefthanders!
Yup! Thanks for watching! Cheers!
Nice video Dan. I have the civvy version of this knife, the Trekker, and love it. Yes, it IS an awesome saw! Thanks for sharing!

Cool to see the evolution of the soldier knife. In my case I think vintage is better. Great vid buddy!!! 👍👍👍 cheers!!! 👊👊👊

I just love those soldiers 👍
Received this a week or so ago and it’s a pleasure to use.
the awl in 91mm models is 2mm thick in new 111mm models is 2.4mm thick.
Thanks NikGyver! 🤘🍻

They should have put the Philipps screwdriver on the end not the middle.

the frist saks were made in the 1800s
I guess they discontinued the blackout US Army knife version

suh-weet!!!
I have one from 1990. I have a new one too.
I came ur channel, really how many Swiss army knives do you own. I have 3 the I started to carve with. Great knife

Hello , do the new soldier models all have a year date stamped
I have two. One 11 and one 17. It is on the blade base like the others. One of my favorite knives by far.
@@MrAnakin1996 yes they are cool, I got a 17 stamp on mine, love it , was going to try and collect them all, but decided not to 😁 would be expensive
If my nylon scales/grips are somewhat loose could I use poxipol to better secure them?

is WD40 oil good as lubricate or not for this sort of knife!?
WD40 is safe to use from what I understand but I prefer oil... mineral oil is very inexpensive and works well. Tfw! Cheers!
You don’t happen to have a kL Dutch army knife you want to get rid of or a oc cadet
Sorry for the late response, but no :( I want to get another DAK. Cheers!
No no corkscrew is pretty useless
