Very Nice max i just picked up Musc Ravageur! cant say i love this yet! Kind of weird smell! Guess i will try it for awhile and see what goes down! I am coming back to you max to say......I love it! Its awesome! just took a few hours of hanging out in the air conditioning! Smells great!
Smelled Music for a while and was blown away; bought it and then tried the Musc Ravageur sample I was given and now I love that too... my poor wallet.
Heh.. yeah... All I can say is.. stay away from their desert line. After sampling it was inevitable... ouuuch...

You're right on Max. Portrait of a Lady is good, but I was expecting a little more complexity from it. Didn't really live up to the hype for me. Luckily, VEx kicks butt. Gotta be on skin though. Little too mature on clothing, just like Guerlain's Vetiver edt.

OK! my favorite is Le Parfum de Therese Edoumond Roudnitska to say he was brilliant is a huge understatement , That man had the ability to see the beauty that was hidden between the stars. I know that almost every perfumer in this group pretty basically worshiped the ground he walked on.

My favourites have to be Carnal Flower, Lys Mediteranee, and especially, Superstitious!
I tried POAL and Une Rose and Musc Ravageur, but they were all very sweet for my tastes, especially since I live in Southern China where the temperatures are around 30-35 degrees C and humidity can reach 100%.
Overall I think Superstitious is the most creative composition of the house, but I will also look to try out French Lover.

I have POAL, Une Rose, Musc Ravageur and Carnal Flower. Im contemplating getting Lipstick rose and eau magnolia. Difficult to choose a fave amongst them because they are all quite unique in their own way.

French Lover is without question my favorite from this house and it's not even close.
Outstanding composition for sure!
My favorite is the night layered with portrait of a lady. It turns that rose into a very animalic rose and very masculine.

I appreciate the work of Frederic Malle and his extraordinary collection with a great group of top noses, but I think all them are too much unisex a little bit oriented to feminine side, including Musk Ravager. And in my opinion the projection is shy in the most of cases. I prefer other houses such us Nasomatto, Orto Parisi or Creed.

Very interesting video, Max. In fact, those GBUUO vids of yours are the one I enjoy the most because of their teaching character. I love learning about frags. One suggestion for you: Please try Malle's L'EAU D'HIVER by Jean-Claude Ellena. It is a very luxurious and distinguished fragrance. Truly special. Suit and tie elegance. In short: It smells like money & success ;) Try it, you'll thank me later.

I own portrait of a lady and if the package tracking is correct i will receive carnal flower wednesday :) I blind buyed POL and i like it but don't love it ...with the large amount of review i was expecting more a spicier or darker rose...but to me it's a very clean rose with a bit of spice in the backgound...almost fresh to me. But i d'ont just like it ...i like it a lot anyway !

I own POAL, French Lover and Monsieur.. Monsieur. is just my signature scent, and it is a melancholic scent, definitely not oriental, classy, and I love its performance. What do you think about the sillage and projection of Monsieur.?

Noir Epices is one I really enjoy. Also Geranium pour monsior.

Hey Max, great video. I was wondering what your take on Bigarade Concentree is? I love the scent but performance on my skin is abysmal.

I believe that the fragrance you mentioned as promise is actually the Night not Promise, I know Arabic a little bit and what it says on bottle is Night. Thanks for great work

Hi Max nice compilation! Are you familiar with Superstitious by FM? I received a generous sample from a kind salesperson at Neiman in L.A. but I haven’t worn it enough yet. Seems like they may be marketing it toward women but it seems unisex so far. Also are FM’s French Lover and Bois D’Orage the same fragrance? The same fragrance?
sandy winfield yes they are the same fragrance, it was marketed as Bois d'Orage in the USA for some reason and French Lover in Europe

i’ve been wearing musc ravageur since 2005 i’m on my 3rd 100ml bottle it is one of my favorite scents i’ve ever owned, and will always have a bottle.
i really would love to try out the whole line of frederic malle but i don’t live anywhere close to wear they sell it, and my last purchase of musc ravageur i asked to buy some samples and i was declined they told me they didn’t sell them and i would have to go to a place that sold them, i was disappointed! i really like frederic malle and don’t understand why they don’t just give samples out but can’t even purchase them! kind of sucks because i like to try out and purchase different fragrances, oh well have to wait until i go somewhere that sells it.

How does the new formulation of Musc Ravager compare to the original formulation?
the original was darker and had a bigger warmer clove spice note, it also had a bigger animal musk note, however many of these materials have been regulated however the new version is still loveable.

Just Acquired The Essential Collection As I'm Just Curious For New Scents To Try Out, And Wow, I Was Blown Away With Monsieur So Much I Bought A Full Bottle, And This Is From A Guy Who's Very Picky To Buy Something, As I Love It Or Hate It Type Of Guy. Close 2nd Would Be Musc Ravageur From The Essential Collection.

I’m a woman and Portrait of a Lady is my all time favorite. I get so many compliments from men when I wear it. The women fragrance CZcamsrs I watch never have any Frederic Malle scents.
I can’t believe guys wear portrait. I’d like to be able to pull it off because it’s lovely but it’s really feminine. I bought a bottle for my wife nearly ten years ago. She still has it. I will try it out and see what happens.
I still do not understand why musc ravageur is so liked by everyone and so overhyped. the first thing I got when I first smelled it was the smell of urinals... :l

Lots of reviewers seem to hate Music for a while. I Bloody love it. It’s the only full bottle I bought. I also have and enjoy Noir epices, french lover and portrait.

Musc Ravageur new formulation vs old formulation, how different is it? Longevity?
Old form is most definitely darker and stronger - they toned down a bit on the initial cloves blast that you get with the original form... I get 2 + hrs longer lasting performance on the old.

Tried 14 Frederic Malle fragrances(most known), and nothing touched me. All the fragrances well blended, but non of them has wow effect or at least something new in it. Considering the price I really don’t understand the hype over this house. But the video is classy as always!

Idk what people’s obsession with musc ravageur is. Like yeah it smells nice. But it’s smells pretty much of a gourmands sweet musc. And I consistently see it as people’s absolute favorite. Maybe smelling like a cinnamon roll just ain’t for me

I don’t want to be negative BUT.... I feel the smells are highly overrated. I have smelt the top 20 of the house.
At least 3 times each, and honestly I wouldn’t feel I need to get my wallet into them. Carnal flower, French lover, Musc raveguer, portrait of a lady.... all I’ve smelt before.
Please someone help me out.! Why buy this house?
Hey Joshua, I completely understand your point. Having said that, remember that fragrances are subjective (to each its own) and you don't have to justify or find validation - if you don't like it, that should be enough not to buy or wear! Thank you for your input.

really! The I am a perfumer and have been for more than 20 years. In my opinion this line was and still is revolutionary.
I am not a perfume collector but I discovered FM before it was sold to Estée Lauder. I feel that FM perfume got different layers and under different weather, they smell slightly different. I have Noir Epices, lipstick rose, Iris Poudre. A few times, I noticed people around me leaned towards me (both males and females) when I have Noir Epices on. I just noticed the difference when I spray FM perfume. It's worth the price in my opinion. This house is able to interpret classic perfume in a modern way. When you smell their perfume, you get a familiar memory like you have smelt it before but yet you know it's not like the same as the older generation. They add modern twist to the old-fashioned scents. To me, Tom Ford is not long lasting and it's a fashion scent. But Guerlain is nice but the new CEO might not respect the heritage that much. Still, Guerlain does not disappoint.
