Women who are breast feeding are told to be careful what they eat, what they drink, what meds to not take, but a trans woman who takes so many meds suddenly it's okay to breast feed??? Something sounds fishy....

Bio-identical hormones aren't meds that are dangerous for the baby, they are identical to hormones that women naturally produce. Some trans women were able to successfully lactate and breastfeed through a combination of hormones of estradiol and progesterone, breast pumping and galactagogues. There was no evidence found that HRT is unsafe for the baby.
EDIT: For all the people going up in arms against me and my comment, I'm stating facts that have been documented, whereas the comment above me is asserting fear and assumptions.
What I am NOT doing is telling who should or shouldn't breastfeed, I'm not arguing that one's milk is better than the other, I am not and can not guarantee the safety of your or anyone else's milk. I have also not said that every trans woman can or should do it.
Decision to breastfeed should be made between the person who breastfeeds and the healthcare professionals.
Lastly, for those of you who want "citations and evidence and studies" I'll provide you with one, but you should also be a decent person and instead of spending so much time arguing points that I've never asserted or made, you could've used that to google it.
Search "Lactation Induction in a Transgender Woman Wanting to Breastfeed: Case Report" by NIH.

    • @VixenArt3
      @VixenArt3 Před 3 měsíci +8

@@kevincurr4641 I'm referring to documented cases of trans women who have lactated and breastfed their babies. Is that not proof enough, that it's real and that it exists? Also, do I need to emphasize the bio-identical part of bio-identical hormones? The op was comparing things that can negatively impact the baby to something that is natural and necessary for breast milk production. Again, no medicine that's harmful to the baby is used in the process.

@@VixenArt3 Show me the data. Show me the studies on the infants. Show me where these studies are legally allowed. I'm genuinely curious as many of the drugs allowed to pregnant and breast feeding women are old drugs that they already know the consequences and side effects of because that sort of testing is no longer allowed. This is just a gigantic human trial that they don't know the outcome of and they hope has no adverse side effects.

Exactly! Seems some sad people are forgetting all the employees at tesco, sainsburys, morrisons, etc. during covid19. If they had chosen to stay isolated, we'd have struggled. I worked in our local shop for the 1st 6 weeks of lockdown, and our customers were so grateful to us. I was close to 4 months pregnant when I chose to go on furlough, and that was only because they didn't know the effects covid19 could have on pregnant women at that point. I'd have stayed working, but I couldn't risk losing my baby girl. I wasn't going through that grief again

This message is for Liam: Every job has value. The jobs that are the most denigrated are the ones that, quite frankly, we cannot live without. As a society, this "need a better job" narrative that has infected our culture is ridiculous. Anyone who asks why someone works somewhere is a person saying they cannot fathom anyone being happy completing a necessary and needed job. It says more about the person making the comment, than it does about the person doing the job. All those older customers, if you engage with them, that is HUGE and may be their main contact in a day or week. Keep on doing what you love and ignore the noise.

I tried to breastfeed my daughter and ended up with a massive breast abscess, then when I had my son, he ended up in the special care baby unit, being tube fed. I'm in agreement with Alexis, I feel there's not enough data, and not enough long term studies, to say it's safe. It's always from the point of view of what it can do for the breast feeder, rather than the baby. All drugs have side effects, which concerns me. Also, just because the medical profession have okayed it, that still doesn't mean it's completely safe. I've seen a LOT of drugs used for a long time, which are now banned, because they've been found to cause major problems.

The danger for the baby is everything you put in your body ends up in breast milk. My husband made fish in lemon sauce when I was feeding my son, the effect that had on his nappy was awful.
I get migraines but avoided pain killers because it can get into the milk, fortunately I got fewer migraines.
Remember thalidomide children, those drugs caused disabled children.
Unfortunately it could be ten or twenty years in the future before the negative effect on children could show up.
My first child I had so much milk I could have fed every baby in South East London, my next I had so little milk, I therey had to bottle feed.
We are told dont drink , avoid medication, many medications mean you should not breast feed, I am sorry but a person stuffed full of hormones ( not naturally occurring ) is putting the babys health at risk, a healthy child needs to the front of a parents mind not the selfish view of pushing to breast feed to make the parent feel better about themselves, child must come first, if the child does not come first you should not have a child

It falls in the same roam as Trans Women getting pregnant or having a period. It falls in the same roam as "We accept your identity and respect you and give you a place to feel comfortable in what you feel but don't forget that biological women exist and you have to respect that". Trans Women are Trans Women, they will never be a biological woman. And I don't mean it as an insult, or to demean you, it's just a biological fact that no one can change and has to be accepted. It's not fair to us a women to have to acknowledge someone as a "real-woman" and at the same time seeing the meaning of being a women and it's importance being chipped away bit by bit with these kind of things. Know your place. You chose this, you knew that the choice of living like a woman would cost your things, not only money but also relationships with society as a whole. You can't expect the world to accommodate every single feeling you have. When I mean you I mean a collective you as the Trans community. There are cases of bio men naturally lactating due to issues with thyroid or pituitary glands and some liver problems as its just the hormone prolactin that allows the process to happen and surprisingly pretty much everyone will have the ability to produce the hormone naturally to some degree, it all depends on how much the parts of your brain that control hormone production tells your body to make. Bio men have nipples as in the womb, everyone starts off with the potential to be female (so potentially needing a way to feed future offspring) and what dictates your sexual organs are hormone levels from the mother along with a multitude of other things dictate how the fetus' will develop during gestation. I just thought them). Certain people need reminding that even a humble toilet cleaner saves more lives than a doctor does. Diseases found in unhygienic restrooms include influenza, streptococcus, E. coli, hepatitis, staphylococcus, salmonella, shigella and MRSA. Some of these can be fatal, especially if you are elderly or medically vulnerable.

@kate7413 with all due respect, I sincerely doubt you have an accurate, much less comprehensive understanding of GAHT. You're also ignoring that baby formula is manufactured with chemical ingredients that mimic the composition of breast milk. If you don't trust one, I suppose you shouldn't trust the other, and yet plenty of children have survived.

Liam...I very much appreciate the services provided by people who work in our supermarkets...in fact, all retail. It is not an easy job, not least because the public sometines leave good manners outside the door. I have also worked in retail.
When I lived overseas and even in the UK moving to a new area, it was often staff in local shops that provided the only social discourse I could have...it was often lonely, and Im grateful to all the people, like you, that were helpful, remembered me and would kindly pass a few minutes of the day, and eventually built a bit of friendship with me. Shout out to Sainsburys (sorry!) staff on Westport in Edinburgh...and supermarket chains should keep in mind that when they have great staff, it inspires loyalty to the store...value local retail staff well!
Id be delighted if you worked in my local shop.

There just isn't enough known about Trans women breastfeeding. I feel that it's more for the validation of the Trans woman than it is for the health of the baby.
Over time... from birth to weaning a child, a biological woman's breast milk changes to suit the needs of the baby. The nutrients adapt to a growing baby's needs as well as how much milk is produced. As a baby is growing and nursing more, and for longer periods, the volume and fat content increase. It's actually quite fascinating.
Milk can even change throughout the day. In the morning, milk has less tryptophan (helps with sleep) and much higher levels at night. This helps a baby establish their circadian rhythm.
If mom or baby is sick, antibodies are produced in the breast milk.
These are just a few things that change with breast milk. There's even more to it than I mentioned here.
A bio woman's body is designed for the breast milk to naturally adjust to the needs of the baby, and I just feel its unlikely that the milk from a trans woman will adjust in a natural way. It would be very hard to artificially adjust it to suit the needs of the baby.
There's so much more to breast milk than just lactation. A trans woman's body does not have the ability to react to all the adjustments needed to provide the right milk balance for a growing baby. That would be incredibly difficult to recreate.
Maybe someday that will be possible, but we are just not there yet

You two are a hoot,I really loved this, it is great to see a couple so into each other and can tease each other.
Ppl can be such assholes ehen ur comes to work. First thing ppl ask is what do you do for a living? Ppl use what you do to lord over you. If you are happy what you are doing and it meets your needs, that is all that matters. It is just plain wrong to judge a person by that, unless they are a drug dealer or a scam artist or an investment advisor pump and dumping stocks. Socrates used to soldier to make a living. Liam, i bet you are a great employee bc you enjoy what you are doing, that is to be admired. My son is a classical musician , & ppl say ' you kidding? When are you getting a real job, what a waste'. It is his passion and he and his group are doing well enough to support themselves and they give audiences a lot of joy, they interact with them, and really give theit all.
A true saying is that money can at best be neutral or negative, it is never positive. If it meets your needs, it is neutral, if it doesnt it is negative. Dont listen to the haters, they are miserable wankers.
With the breastfeeding i agree with alexis, I worry about the baby and the impact of the drug mix on the kid, these are at levels not present in a lactating mom. There has been zero studies on safety, this is all done ad hoc.

I was a small town gas station clerk for almost a year and I loved it. The costumers were nice and polite, and I even met my fiancé there. I left that job and became a paraprofessional at an elementary. The pay was decent, nothing amazing and very comparable to a regular 9-5 minimum wage job. However, the title of the job was fancy enough for people to suddenly “respect” me more anytime they asked me what I did. I hated the job and was not good at it at all. They hardly trained us, we were constantly being under minded by the teachers and higher ups, micromanaged for everything we said and did, we were basically just punching bags for children with emotional regulation problems, and we were generally just treated poorly. I was losing hair and a lot of weight due to stress, and was always worried I was gonna be fired for anything. The only reason I stayed for so long was simply the opinion of other people. I finally got the courage to leave, and now I work as a custodian. I absolutely love my job and I don’t care if other people look down at me for getting a “simpler” blue collar position. I get paid by the shift rather than the hour, everyone likes clean spaces, I like cleaning, and I don’t have to deal with anyone.

The list of things you listed are the same things I was told to do when I couldn’t produce enough milk (other than taking estrogen), so I’m not too concerned that anything was bad for the baby. (It is a pain, I ended up formula feeding both kids eventually.) The biggest point is that it’s definitely more for the transwoman than a necessity for the baby. Reminds me of women who make intricate cricut cards for every kid in their kid’s class on Valentine’s Day. It’s not bad, but don’t pretend you’re doing it FOR the kid. That was just something YOU had fun doing.

Liam, I love that you are happy and love your job. So many people will never understand the need to interact with people.
Live your own happy life. 😘
    As for the breastfeeding.
Colostrum in breastmilk is very important for future health. It helps protect the babie's gut biome, immunity, and lowers chance of cancer, obesity and allergies.
With all the microplastics, I can not imagine adding a hormone cocktail into the mix. What is best for the baby, should be the first choice. So if you have a baby boy and you are taking extra estrogen and progesterone, it is passed down through the milk. It is why you shouldn't drink or do drugs.
Alexis as usual you are a voice of reason. ❤❤❤

I have a two month old and I wanted to breastfeed but had to give up after a few weeks because my milk didn't come in. I was pumping eight times a day and taking medication to try and stimulate milk but it didn't work. It was exhausting. I think you've made the right decsion deciding to formula feed because in my opinion the time and energy it takes to try to get milk to come in when it doesn't come naturally isn't worth it - instead of spending three hours a day trying to pump and get milk to come in, there are so many other ways you can spend that three hours to bond with your baby (it's difficult to cuddle your baby when you have a pump strapped to your chest!) Also, formula feeding can help Liam to bond with the baby and can help free up your time because you can share the feeding duties. Good luck with adopting!

When I had my kids, formula was still the most popular. I had to work full time and just didn’t want to breast feed. My boobs hurt soooo bad after delivering, I honestly don’t know how women do it!! I held my babies close when I gave them their bottles and I loved them and formed just as close a bond with my babies as any breastfeeding mom. I might would’ve at least attempted to try breastfeeding if I was having babies now but I don’t regret my choices back then. My kids are grown up now and we are still so close, they still tell me absolutely everything and all three are healthy as can be.❤

    • @kadda1212

It hurt for me as well. Some inflammation at the beginning. I had to use the pump, my baby didn't attach to well at the beginning. After a few weeks it worked just fine. She simply had to learn it. Formula was something I was afraid of using because I am so lazy and having to prepare it seemed a nuisance to me. Formula really became popular in the 50s - another way to make money - and also somehow at least in Germany people were so focussed on measuring everything instead of using instinct. My grandma was so confused about the breastfeeding, constantly asking me how I would know the baby had enough to eat. I found it odd. We are mammals, we don't need to measure everything. I understand why some still use it, but it's good that breastfeeding is recommended again.

To have a stable work that you like is what it matters.
In my country, to have stable work in a grocery store is a dream!

I worked as graphic designer and I had to take my job home every evening, my husband is a journalist and have always to answer to his phone, don’t matter if it's Christmas or the middle of the night.
The best work I had was in an Autogrill. I just have to work my shift, they paid me if I had to stay longer and I gained more than what I was gaining as a graphic designer, having to stay late every damn day, always stressed.

She will go on about transwomen being in women's sport by arguing about the medication lowers muscle etc. I'm trying 2 get her 2 c a woman's point but I'm now needing help.
She thinks she doesn't pass cause she still has a dick. How do I tell her it's not that? How do I tell her about women's spaces without upsetting her? I've tried by saying to her things like periods are a very private thing. Yes we talk to eachother about moods, how heavy, regularly etc but I was telling her that we also find them very embarrassing. We don't like being on our periods and having to use public toilets. Periods smell. Although I've never smelt it from another cubical we still know it smells. We can be heard opening the tampons/towels. It's embarrassing. We are constantly worried it has come through our clothes. We are worried of leaking during the night and our partners seeing that even though they know we are on our period. I really don't know wot to do or say

Firstly, people who diss someone for working in a store🙄 We need grocery store workers, gas station attendants, ect. Secondly, I absolutely love you two and all that you share here. Liam was a wee bit spicy today and I loved it.

See when Liam said you 2 were adopting in the next few years ? I immediately had a big, beaming smile on my face
All those people who are insulting you ? Bet they don’t own their own house and aren’t in a happy relationship
    You 2 are #lifegoals

This is an emotional charged topic for me. Firstly agree with lots of what you’ve both said. It’s important to note not all women can breast feed for many reasons. I for one couldn’t I had an emergency c-section so my body didn’t bring on my milk when it should have and it was just too painful. I was personally made to feel it was my fault by some of the midwives. One even said “you just don’t have a high pain threshold”… even though after a c-section I barely took any pain relief. Skip forward it was my husband who made the call to suggest we move onto formula milk. Formula milk is there for these situations.

I can't speak for everyone, but in america normally grocery store workers are low skill or teenage employees. HOWEVER since I have been outside of the USA it's clear that employment is much different in most other countries. Grocery and retail jobs are treated more seriously and are paid better which is great. Retail is a perfectly legitimate career path that not enough people pursue.
