I don't know if anybody mentioned it or not already, Jacob, but you can actually find a video that shows how they made it. They have pretty elaborate stage shows during there concerts where they talk about and show where some of their music comes from. Really worth the watch.
After you are done reacting to the whole album you should react to the Easter eggs in all the songs. They usually make an overture but for this album, they connected the songs through snippets of the songs in the album.
I’m actually so happy that you broke it down and enjoyed the song. A lot of people don’t understand the art and lyrical genius’ that is AJR.

If I recall correctly, the sample in the intro is from 100 Bad Days, could be wrong though

First off, I love the pfp, second, I think when they sampled all the old stuff they recorded because a lot of the sounds could be in 100 Bad Days and others are definitely not in 100 Bad Days. I’m sure there was some sampling from the song in here, but I think when they say sample they’re own sample it’s like they record their own “sample” of old sounding stuff and then they cut it up and manipulated, hence the second use of sample.
The funny thing about this video is that i was able to say no sh#t to everything he said.
