Julia looked so elegant at the end! I want to have a dinner party where the guests dress in formal wear!
Me too.
Hell, just make it a theme party and see who obliges. :)
I really like her comments regarding pastry bags and tools for the kitchen in general; she really showed how much respect she had for her audience and wanted them to have the best results possible. We actually had that silly metal one, which held nothing and leaked what little it did hold.
I want that filled with vanilla ice cream and raspberries.
I remembered Julia child's cooking show
I love watching her old shows! Unfortunately its elegant dinner parties like this that seem to be long gone. Have to admit, I don't miss the days of when people would smoke while having fancy cocktails before dinner! I will say her comment regarding the decorating metal tube was funny, honestly they were basically made for kids, I know I still have mine that came with a kids baking set:) Watching these shows lately made me sit down with my husband the other night and watch the movie "Julia, Julie", one of my favorite movies! And watching Julia's classic cooking shows...makes me want to have a "Bon Appétit" dinner party😊
Julie and Julia
A group of six girlfriends had elegant dinners every Sunday night to watch Downton Abbey. We too mourned the loss if these dinners and the fine China and crystal and sterling flatware. We even used salt spoons and salt cellars. We pooled our resources and we were all old enough to have some of what we needed. It was great fun and we’ll never forget it. The men happily gathered somewhere else to do what men enjoy.
A shame that people don't entertain like this anymore.
I agree. Unfortunately, when you try, people are very uncomfortable as I sometimes think we’ve kind of become a nation of people who feel like children. So they feel like they’re a kid and a dinner party and don’t want to wear it. Just relaxing and sharing is enough but that’s not how people think.
I hear you; but it was anxious making for the hostess as well as those guests, @@nathanjustus6659 everything had to be en pointe, and you really needed a good lie down after.
I love how she says to ask your grocer to order the sugar if they don’t have it. Those were the days
cant wait to see jamie make this
He would be disorganised and make too many mistakes. I much prefer to watch Ms Child's organised methods.
I replayed her righteous rant about shoddy pastry bags three times. How dare her favorite hardware store disappoint her! "Decorating doll houses" was delivered with such dismissive contempt, the Woolworth heirs undoubtedly hung their heads in shame.
😂
No doubt she likely meant gingerbread houses
Ticki Tacki
Meh, no big deal, you built it up too much

Julia makes a Slightly more fiddly than usual Pav.
That really should be the title for this.
She is so neat not like that goon Martha Stewart
I really love all julia child's dessert but i have to say this one is not a winner to me because i dont like white vanilla cakes and its basically the same but with egg whites.
The star flavor, however, is whatever fruit or filling you use. It could be very much like a pavlova, which is rather nice.
no one asked you
It’s the same recipe and Nearly the usual method as a two tired pavlova an old fashioned variation I would recommend lining the baking sheet with baking paper well greased instead of flouring the sheet and putting all the sugar in while mixing) put the meringue into two (or more) filled circles (like the first one she did) and fill with cream and fruit/chocolate/whatever between the layers Leave out the vanilla if you don’t like it.
There's no 'cake' at all. It's just a highfalutin' pavlova. And what's not to like about that?
@ValeriePallaoro You are not aware of the word : comparison? You should read again your old elementary English books...
Nooooo. She said to “taste the meringue...”
Not these days unless you want to risk E. coli, salmonella, etc. 🦠 🧫
Nah ... the risk is lower than you think. And you carry e.coli on you all day, every day.
