In this tutorial you will discover:
How to quickly model a tunnel and train tracks
How to use the array and curve modifier
How to use dupliframes to quickly create copies of lamps - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Just in case someone is trying this tutorial in Blender 2.8 + , the light instancing is different from 2.79
For the lights this was a lifesaver:
1 Create a light and a curve.
2 Convert the curve to Mesh.
3 Select the Light go to >> object >> Relations >> Parent (here, put the curve).
4 GO to the Curve >>Object >> Instancing >>Verts.
For the lights model it self it was a little different:
1 Create a light and a curve.
2 Convert the curve to Mesh.
3 Select the Light go to >> object >> Relations >> Parent (here, put the curve)>> Parent type 3 Vertices
thank you so much
Both times it followed the path but the first one gave me two that were clipping through each other. I ended up just putting those behind the camera amd that worked but i would be great if you could explain why it is doing that or how I can fix it. Many thanks for the tips :)
@@casimir40ksolomon74 yes i am also facing same problem
Any know how to do this in 3.0? It doesn't have the "Instacing" tab. 😞😞
how would i set the off value for lamp
this is just a pain man .
I've been using Blender for probably well over five years, but I STILL inevitably end up learning something when I run through your videos. Sometimes that's a neat trick (like bolting the cables to the wall with a duplicated ring) and sometimes that's something as fundamental as a keyboard shortcut I never knew existed. Thank you so much for making these.
I am complete amateur with Blender but managed to follow and complete the CITY and TUNNEL tutorials, it just takes time and patience, they both look great especially if you add a train in the tunnel. Thanks for your efforts, cracking videos.
The third rail is usually used to power subways.
It just transports electricity that the train can use for the engine.
You cant power subways with batterys. The volune of top tier batterys you would need for a 30km ride exceeds the volume of the whole train.
Awesome tut, man. I'm just beginning to get into the more complicated things in Blender and I found this to be a great ease in and learning curve for me. Thanks for taking the time to make these tuts and sharing them with us all. :D
Oh my god, you just did in 42minutes what would take me a week! But im learning, thank you so much.
+Myles Willis careful you dont forget it all again, if you dont use the knowledge you'll loose it.
are you done makeing that now??
you still creating it bro?
@@johncastle2365 Thanks man, I made this. It's kinda short, buggy and crappy but I finished it. It was before 2020 lol. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AltOneFifty.Luter&hl=en_GB&gl=US
thanks for all these amazing tutorials...sending you all the love from kenya
who ever is wondering about the loop cuts at 11:25 is by pressing ctrl+r and then mouse wheel up or down to increase and decrease the number of loop cuts
Andrew, your tutorials are really nice, it cleared up a questions for me about Blender!
Man I love your tutorials. So informative and actually fun! Thank you sooooo much!
That was easy) it remained only to memorize and understand the settings of lighting))) Thanks, Andrew!
Gosh, 2016, just noticed it was from 2012 and it wasn't using Cycles. What a nice result :O
You can use cycles by reducing the rendering quality but it'll be less nice to see or you keep a high quality for rendering but you'll need to wait for half an hour or more, but real CG artists are used to wait so that's the price to pay : to not use your computer while rendering. But the final result might be amazing.
Thanks for making this tutorial!!! It is really great!!! PLEAASE Keep making more tutorials.
Bro u are amazing man don't stop what you are doing keep going. Nice video.
IN answer to your question? what is a 3rd rail. Subway trains function on electricity. Subway trains have what's called a shoe, its a piece of metal that makes direct contact with the the middle of the 3rd rail. and transfers the power of the 3rd rail to the train motors. The 3rd rail can have anywhere from 200 to 800 VOLTS. At a certain point, (and I don't know the exact number), the volts actually act like a magnet and will draw you (human being) to it. Like to magnets attracting, it will attract you, (you have to be very close to it, like inches away), so if your standing 3 feet to it, its not gonna pull you; however, if you put your hands 2 inches away, you will not be able to pull off it. Resulting in electrocution. Remember your heart and body functions on electrical impulses. Disrupt the impulse, you die :). (that's basically it in a nut shell) s
I've been trying this with Blender 3.0, just trying to make in inside of a vacuum hose, but when I apply the Curve to the cylinder after the Array, the effect just distorts the cylinder instead of bending it. I have the normals inside and the faces at 64 - basically just following along. Not sure what I'm missing because it seem so simple, but its distorted. Thanks in advance for any help.
This was awesome! Only problem I have is the light fixture does something weird when I fix it to 'Follow Path'.
You make the best tutorials Andrew! Keep it up!
How do you scale the path curve along the y direction only? Mine goes the opposite way as well!
okay so, I how do i flip my normals? I'm on version 2.71.
For the lights where is the duplication too add more on the new blender
Andrew-I really enjoy your tutorials since I am new to blender and the whole 3D, thanks.
I do have a question, when I apply a curve modifier to the objects as you did around the 8:00 minute mark my objects project in the negative direction or opposite direction from the path arrow direction forcing me to rotate the objects 180 degrees? This seems to be fine in object mode but in edit mode the objects are shown still being projected in the negative direction? What user error did I do to cause this?
I have the same issue here.
how would you make a switch?should i apply the entire track and theb model them myself or should i just apply the part up to the switch?
Hey thank you! After watching your video, I'm thinking about switching from Maya to Blender.. It really has an awesome post-processing Compositor to render photorealistic images. BTW, how did you make the small pieces of fracture dropped on the ground?
Thank You Blender Guru for this tutorial!
I've been learning Unity for some time now, and want to move into using Blender to make 3D assets, in this tutorial he seems to be making more a picture of a 3D scene, can I adapt it so I could use it in an interactive environment?
Great tut Andrew! I have small issue, when I add new lamp and select follow path of Curve and select frames duplication without speed the lamps are not following curve but going in opposite direction. I checked tracking axes and they are the same one as on curve. Any idea what might be wrong?
Thanks alot Andrew! I exported this into Maya, and it is awesome!
Blender Guru In the 2.8 version I can't find the "frames" tab for the lighting. Have they removed it or does it just look different?
Once i have created the track how do i get it into my first layer? I went back to my tunnel but the track isn't there?
Muchas gracias por el tutorial, realmente me sirvió mucho ¡saludos desde México!
I couldn't get the tunnel to curve, perhaps you could help me?
When I select Nurbs Path for the curve it jumps the cylinder parallel with the X-axis. Tried the other Deformation Axis settings but got nothing. Please help.
Ahh, the old google, the feels. Thanks for the tutorial by the way!
Love this tutorial, perfect for a movie project I am doing...
The link to it in the description is broken though.. Any current link available for the project file?
Thanks Harry
is there a reason why you createt a seperate floor plane and didnt just connect the ends of the tunnel or does it not matter?
Is there any way of getting lamps to follow the curve in BlenderCycles without placing each one by hand?
Hi - I've got stuck when it comes to adding the path for the curve. How do you get it to scale in one direction only? When I try it gets longer both 'along' the tunnel but also 'out the front' of it. Thanks. andy
Awesome tutorial. Thanks for this.
How does one render an animation after working in composting? I've tried and failed, I'm trying to make a lens flare on my earth
excuse me I have a problem with curve modifier when I link it to nurbs curve for example in the cylinder the cylinder object rotates 90 degrees around its axis
I have the same problem. Even when I applied rotation to the cylinder. My solution is to let the curve be in its original born position, not changing its rotation. And change all the other objects like the cylinder to match the curve direction. Then use curve modify to the cylinder, it would work. But I'm not sure this could work in all the future curve problems, like what if I have to change the born direction of the curve in some complicated situation....
How come every time I add a curve modifier, the object moves when I tab into and out of edit mode? How do I make an object like this that doesn't do this? Need to know how to fix what I already have and also how to make things from the start that don't have this problem.
Does anyone know how to do a black falloff in the background of a scene? I want to only make about five to ten segment subway tunnel and have it fade to black.
Finally, your tutorial is really helpful because Im actually doing it! I already made tunnel and rail, but not quite done yet. So keep it up. :D
Oh yeah, I already subbed you. :D
Fantastic tutorial!
hey when i scale the curved path its getting scaled both sides pls help
Perfect! Thank you Andrew!
I'm using Blender 2.77 and the 'path'-option wont allow me to change anything other than the end-points. I used a Bezier curve instead, and subdivided as I saw fit. Much better option IMO. Thanks;)
The first curve you put it at around about 8.00 in, how do you scale it up longer, without the other side becoming longer to?
Teacher, I Love your work & you are awesome.
the third rail supplies power to the train. kind of the opposite of ground.
the train has a "brush" of copper wires that drags along the rail to get the power.
the two outer rails are the grounds.
Woow you make it looks so realistic.
When i try to add the joints in the pipes at 21:17 something happens to the shading of the mesh. Resetting the normals doesn't help.
when i make a curve and try to add the curve modifier to the rails they move somewhere else and not follow the curve at all
my object didnt always fall in line with the curve when applied, the had to be rotated onto the right axis
Third rail is current. The two normal rails serve as grounding (if that is the english word for that) (The Tube is using a seperate rail for grounding)
great tut! subscribed!
Yeah, the famous 5 sided bolt.
(Which, for all I know, is a 'security bolt' since it would require a special wrench.)
Having trouble with the curve modifier. Wall and floor follow the curve but become shorter and fatter as the curve increases. What am I missing?
Hey man, You should make another video explaining where is the tools that you used in this tutorial. I really confused. I can't make the train track follow the path curve
WB Wilson Batista you wouldn’t get an answer from him considering this video is like 5 years old. But you need to add a curve modifier and in the objects, click nurbspath
is it possible to use scenes like these for game developement in Unity?
Can you do the lights, the light path, in 2.8 like you did here? I tried it and couldn't make it work.
The thing I am experimenting with right now is to make a sphere into an emission instead of using actual lights. I just tried making a simple tunnel with a cylinder like in the video with the Nurbs curve and made a sphere then used the Array modifier on it to match the segments of the tunnel then applied the Emission shader to it and rendered it in cycles. It worked. The cylinder and UV sphere took on the curved shape of the Nurbs curve and the spheres turned into lights with the emission lit the inside of the tunnel.
@@rustystrat50 what emission values did u put them at?
Awesome tutorial.
In the latest version of Blender I'm having trouble moving the track to the tunnel. How do you do it?
Hey guys wich systems did you use for this. my pc wont allow any acceptable workflow.
how fast of a computer do you need for this project? mine is not nearly fast enough
Just work very very clean and apply rotation with str-a mention the nubspath direction and the object origins and it should work.
I'm using cycles Render and i'm not able to give the lights a spherical glow. It's scattering and creating so much noise. Guide me
Thanks for this content. Although it's old, its relevant. I was able to complete all of the modeling in this first part using 2.80. It took 2 days. Hahaha.
2.57 is better in simplness and faster in rendering much much faster
@@digitalhouse6969 but 2.9X is newer and better optimized.
8:20 how have you scaled that in only one direction?
Can anyone guide me that how can we duplicate lamps per frame along the path in blender 2.8 or higher versions. I am having no option to do that .
That looks unbelievable!
You should work for a game company, so that some more awesome looking games can come xD
muito bom parabens Andrew!
Who cares? Gamers don´t know about the hard work of modelers and only grumble about the gameplay and bad textures. What you see here is pure art...
When i try to bend the curve it acts as one small segment dup'ed by 40 so it doesnt work how do i make it 40 lines?
HEY, what computer do you use to animate stuff; because when in animate, my blender gets super laggy sometimes :(
so when you add the cylinder, you get the options for vertices, the radius, etc. where have these options gone in 2.8?
sike found it
i know it may be alittle late but i just figured out how to fix that, well, it doesnt stop it but it does fix it (if that made sense), just highlight the object you want to fix, click the "object" tab, go to rotation, an change the"z rotation" to 180. hope i helped :)
When I added curve the cylinder moved to top most from the curve please help me to solve
cara anteontem(20/03) procurei esse tudorial em pt no youtube não achei mas agora vc quebrou meu galho bom no dia. vlw
Thank you very much sir for this awesome tutorial. Hope to see more in the future! Sub + like
Hi, im using v.2.74 and im having trouble replicating the lights. I didn't have the default starting point light due to a custom startup file. When i add a point light, the options it gives me are not the same as yours. I tried the other lamp options too. I just have SIZE and MAX BOUNCES. no DISTANCE or SPHERE options. Can anyone tell me what im missing? Thanks.
DubManor I was in Cycles, i should have been in Blender Render. oops.
The third rail is the powersupply of the trains. It is very high voltage, so yea no touchy
When I display blender result I still can't see textures and lighting, but I followed tutorial exactly. Could anybody advice?
Hi! Great Tutorial, i had a great time doing that.
Anyone know the tip to get the view inside the tunnel? Because i never know how to work inside of an object, my view don't allowed me to see it because the outer object is above.
+João Ferreira Press 'N' for the transform-menu and enable "Backface Culling" ;)
I cant select individual point like you did it wont let me?
there is no way to make less duplication in 3.4 ( off value ) how do i do it
what is the software's name that u do all this creation ?
this is a very cool video. like it!
awesome job..!!
just eheck out if it works with a lamp alone. If that does not glow and change the settings of the lamp ind the lamp setting. Do not forget to set the "emission" settings.
When i add the loop cut it dose not work?
i do what you do but it dosen't auto place it like goes weird Help!
Super tutoriel , merci beaucoup
How did you fix it? I'm having the same problem : /
I have a problem.
When i go back to the first Szene like you at 16:45 the new objekt (the train trach section) is not there!!
Please help me :)
I'm having this same problem. I can't seem to scale one end of the line.
yo you said you'd link to the documentary about the ppl in the french tunnels but you didn't put it in the description, whats it called?
Some of the tools in my Blender doesn't work :(
Lamp duplication does not seem to work in 2.75 . Never mind it was just that i had the path selected instead of just the lamp and then click frames.
thank you for this. i was stuck there.
@@999GHz Stucked there,too. Thanks a lot!!
@sonofhendrix do you know if there's a way to do it in 2.8? Cant find the 'frames' tab
yes i was struck here too
wow .... that show!!
earned too the hint;
but I created the rail ikscape was very good too
as I already have more practice in deseho vector is best for me
is serving as divca tbm there goes that if the object is simple
smetrico of to make in Inkscape or Corel Draw only save on (SVG)
