Hi Jon, nice video. I almost have the same problem as you. I have an generic gamepad from nes but this has 5 wires, and I want to use it to fix my controller because my atari's connector is broken but I don't have idea how to replace the 6th wire. Do you have any idea? (sorry for my bad english)
Does the connector have 6 wires? If not, you'll have to cut that open and solder a wire on. I think you'd honestly be better going for an entire replacement wire: www.amazon.com/Replacement-Repair-Atari-2600-Joystick-Controller/dp/B0733JKHKW (Your English is great, by the way)
Thank you for sharing the video. Couple of question: What is that small panasonic tv? How to fix a joystick that needs to be pushed very hard to register the input? Thanks for your time.
That is the Panasonic WV-BM990. I think it is actually a monitor for security systems as it takes BNC input - but it works fine for composite with an adapter. I found this one at a Goodwill for maybe $5? I really love it. If you have to push really hard on a button, it is likely that the metal plate that is held on by the plastic has bent. You might be able to carefully peel back the plastic and reshape it so that it sticks up more. This was a super cheap design they used, so it can be a tricky repair.
@@jonobst Many thanks for your time & for answering the questions. Your video at least made gather the will to check out the joystick to see if it can be improved.
Hearing the gameplay audio from Breakout during your paddle testing was all it took to get me officially searching for an Atari 2600 console. 🤘😁🤘
