    Great Video! I think shorter videos like this might be a good addition to your content as a sort of starting off point for people who want to get the most important information quickly instead of sitting through longer in depth guides. I personally enjoy both types of videos and definitely think they both warrant a spot in your upload schedule! :) Something I've also missed are the plant spotlights, any chance of them coming back?
    I've got a gigas thats about 35cm tall and has around 8 nodes. Do you think i should cut it into 2 node cuttings and pot it up then or would this somewhat larger plant also work on a moss pole as is?

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The plant spotlights are coming back, but they’ll be improved on hehe :) i’d always start the plant on a pole when it’s small so it can take full advantage of it. If the plant is 35cms tall already it’ll be halfway up the pole already withiut having utilised the pole :) also a great opportunity to multi-plant for a lush pole in the future :)

  • @cheesechaos
    @cheesechaos Před 10 měsíci

    Would you expect the root ball to dry out a bit more quickly since there isn't as much substrate within the roots to retain moisture? I guess the roots would also have a lot more air around them because of the little pocket they form. Eventually the roots will work into the substrate and moss, so I don't think it's a big consideration long term. I wonder in the short term if you'd have to water more frequently.
    I see 2 ways where short tutorials work well: specific searches and reminders. They tend to be a lot more focused, and I think that synergizes with searches pretty well. If I want to know how to do a specific thing, I tend to enjoy the under 10 min videos on that single topic. Sometimes it's nice to have information that's brief and straight to the point. The shorter durations are also nice as refreshers for things you've already seen before. I want to say that you've covered most of the stuff from this video in other videos. Even so, a periodic reminder is nice to have to keep certain ideas or pieces of advice fresh as you jump into your next task/project.
    I like longer form videos in 3 situations. Sometimes a topic just requires more explanation. A 10 minute video would not do it justice. Sometimes it's more relaxing to have a lower effort, longer form video where you just tag along for the ride. Then specifically for tutorial videos, I tend to like long form videos when I'm brand new to a topic, and I don't know what I don't know. I'm not sure what to look for, so show me everything! Getting to see lots of information in one place gives a solid starting point from which I can branch out. Then I can track down shorter videos that cover specific things from the longer video in more detail.

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Před 10 měsíci

      Thank you :) yes that was my intention with the shorter videos, but I'll do some longer ones too :) I don't adjust my watering based on where the cutting came from but I definitely wouldn't want it to dry out :) i keep it consistently moist

    @sydneyplantguy what size spagmoss bale do I need for 10 moss ploes? I have a larger monstera. Most of my pothos, monstera, and philodendron are small.

      Depends on the size of your pole. I use approx. 500g of dried moss for 6 of them

    Can I request a video? About variegation cuz I got my first Florida beauty and I don't know how Iam going to take care of it, how aim I going to maintain the varigation

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Variegation is a tricky topic & not all variegation is the same. Ultimately I don’t know enough about it to make a video on it. But pretty sure with the florida beauty the variegation is random, so you just gotta hope for the best & if not happy with the variegation you can propagate the plant hoping for the new shoots to show more

    Why does your Adansonii btw look so different than mine? It has many holes inside each leaf, but none on the edges. My biggest leaf is 32cm (12.6 inches) long.

      Monstera is a confusing genus and to my knoweldge there are a few different subspecies of adansonii. Mine is subspecies laniata

    since you can't crunch test the plastic backed poles, how do you know when to water?

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I just touch the front to see if the moss is still moist

    Can you start a cutting mid Moss pole?

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Před 6 měsíci

      Technically you can :) i even have plants on poles without a pot. Just not sure why u’d do that … gives the plant less space to mature beforenit reaches the top :)

      @@sydneyplantguywow Jan! Greatly appreciate the response. I have a melanochrisom and the middle of the pole is very empty. I was thinking of putting a bunch of Mican cuttings in the pole to help fill in but I've never seen it done. Happy days. Thanks

      Don’t think any of them are great… from what I’ve seen they aren’t made from actual moss. I’d recommend making them yourself as per my tutorial :)
