      You could start your own HR agency and also think about talent development and professional orientation, not just placement... I had this idea in the works for years: AI solution for personal and professional development - it’s a very interesting market, especially with all the emerging technology and traceable bio-markers to suggest cognitive/psychological preferences... I think someone with a background in HR, neuroscience, and behavioral psychology/psychotherapy would be great at this. Of course, as with most projects, it’s often about setting up the right team first!

    Thank you Rosie, for a really useful video. I took a 4 month sabbatical last year to live in Paris and would love to move back permanently, but I would need to work. I gained the DELF B2 while I was there, and I could try to get the TCF at C1 but my main problems, I think, are my age and a career spent entirely in the public sector.. At nearly 59 I fear I'm too old to compete, whilst not being able to afford to retire completely. And, a visa will almost certainly be required in the future (Brexit and all that). But... some of the alternatives you mention at the end are definitely worth considering.

    • @pathallam986
      @pathallam986 Před rokem +1

      @@katukin I'vd been here 2 1/2 years now.
      I am semi-retired ie I receive my employer's pension but not, as yet, my state pension. I always knew I would have to work to afford living in Paris.
      I started off looking after children after school a few hours a week.
      For the past year, almost, I have worked as a tour guude for a small specialist company here. Also write a little bit. With my pension I earn just about enough to manage life in Paris. Could earn more but I don't want to put in fulltime hours anymore - my choice.
      Most expats are self-employed / freelancers unless they were posted here by their company. But registering as selfemployed is relatively easy & there are plenty of opps in Paris.
      Also - depends on your visa. Student visas - you can work p/t, a lot of people gained a work foothold that way.
      Hospitality, like everywhere, is crying out for staff.
      Don't expect to get a salaried, f/t job in a profession or specialist area. Even with fluent French this is unlikely to happen.
      Aim lower to get a foot in the door & build on that. Plan on a couple of years at least to get established/ build a network. Lots of jobs become possible thro word of mouth.

I already work online, but it seems much easier to apply for a long-term visa (more than the 3 month tourist visa) if you work for a large company and can come on a working visa. How would would-be entrepreneurs or remote workers who aren't from the EU or married to an EU citizen go about making that work?

Moreover, your French would have to be pretty excellent for you to be eligible in the French labour market, no? Aside from English teaching or translation into the English language. Moreover, if you are not a French citizen, the public sector is pretty much out of the question.

    Thank you so much for the video! I got a bit depressed looking for a job, because I didn't know where to look to find jobs in France and I'm also not very experienced (I'm only 21 years old and the only job I've ever held was working in a large supermarket in my home country). When I went to a job recruiter for help she told me it would be very difficult to find a job here in France when you can't speak French very well (my current level is A2), and that I could go to hotels in person to ask then to hire me, but that I had to speak French eventually. Your video got me motivated again to look for jobs I could do in English while working on my French!

    Hi, during this time of crisis ,it's understood that job market is bad
    But even before covid, finding a job looked impossible in France for someone who who did their masters in the top 5 business school in france, a native English speaker, who speaks French with a working proficiency level, one who has excelled in their academic scores, one who had international experience and Exposure, one who stabbed at every bullet points in the JD for the respective jobs roles while applying, and yet why it's still seems impossible to get a job. Is it because of a non-white race name that recruiters turn blind to their profile. I read an article which says that the chance of getting a job for a cow who knew the great great grandfather of the white recruiter is way more than a talented foreigner. Why is it so? Talent and experience doesn't make sense any more? Couldn't understand how can someone not find a job when all the rejection mails say that though your profile suits, yet we cannot proceed further. Unable to understand why???

    I like this video! It is very important for any person to find something to strive for and fight for no matter what the circumstances. Once you set the right goal for yourself, making decisions will be easy and fun. What used to seem like an excruciating chore will turn into an enjoyable activity. Go where your labour will be needed! Go where there is money and where your work will be decently paid! Sooner or later you will have to co-operate with people of different nationalities and cultures. To make your business successful, you should learn a foreign language. I would like to recommend to you Yuriy Ivantsiv's workshop "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips on learning foreign language". This book will help you to structure and organise your individual language learning process, will give you the opportunity to independently determine the methodology of language learning, which will become interesting and unburdensome. In this amazing book everyone will find a lot of useful information: how to learn foreign languages, how to memorise information, how to deal with culture shock, what to pay attention to when travelling to another country. I am convinced that the book "Polyglot Notes" should be in the bag of every business person, school and college student, and tourist. The most important thing is that the book gives a good motivation. Don't be afraid to do something to realise your dreams! If people realised that fears have no connection with reality, everyone would live a much better life. Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video. Your videos motivate me and give me new ideas!
