This line also lets Lindelof avoid answering the important question, "why do you hate us? Why do you want to kill us?!" You finally meet your creators and learn that they want to KILL YOU. That's a profound, terrifying idea. But Lindelof NEVER answers deep questions because that sh*t's hard work. And now, he's replaced it with "Weyland wants more life." And Lindelof tries to make it sound lofty and poetic with Weyland's, "I created David so we are both like the Gods" speech. This is what "Mystery Box" writing looks like when you finally open the box. It always contains either nothing or bullsh*t.

So true. My favorite smart person stupid moment is when the scientist breaks quarantine by removing his helmet. How stupid can a scientist be? Then it was compounded by allowing him back inside the ship. This kind of breakdown in logic just baffles me. Every landing ship (the size of Prometheus, at least) needs to have an isolation ward for such dumb-dumbs. Of course, that would have ruined the original Alien movie.

Think about it, we can already guess that he knows that one of his own kind sacrificed themself to create Humanity. He wakes up thousands of years later to see how things are going yet not even five minutes he realises how badly his people f*cked up creating Humanity. He hears witnesses them beating their underlings just for asking questions. He leanrs they only woke him up to learn immortality (which as someone else pointed out in this comment section, is blasphemy to the Engineer as his people accept death and even make rituals out of sacrificing themselves to birth new species). But above all else he hears one of these puny little creatures, who even he can see is one step away from croaking compare itself to him and that it's a God simply because it managed to create a robot in it's image. So as far he's concerned, Humanity has proved to be a failed experiment that needs to be corrected.

He didn't attack outright because it was obvious time had passed and he didn't know if things had changed. Seeing humans at his pod, he needed answers, and he got them pretty fast. Firstly, he knew his kind never came for him, meaning something went wrong. And secondly, he realized humans were never bestowed the teachings and guidance of the engineers, as Weyland's behavior made that clear. He also saw them wearing what were clearly space suits, indicating they had traveled there through space, rather than just colonizing the planet. So he knew he was alone, facing some kind of small human party that traveled there by space ship. He may have not even attacked them at all if they said they simply found the place and revived him out of curiosity. But if he had gotten back to the engineer home world, he may have reported the failure of his mission, which may have resulted in either another ambassador sent to earth, or another attack ship sent to earth to wipe out humanity. So even if he had let them live for the time being and went on his merry way, it wouldn't have necessarily saved humanity from being a target.

Cameron has answered this often asked question in an in-depth interview about the film and series. This decision was made when they, the studio and producers, had plans to not only open the film using the cut Weyland Ted-Talk but also because of future plans on sequal films featuring the actor (Damn name completely escapes me right now) playing the role in far greater depth. His reasoning was it would keep the character of Weyland consistent in speech, appearance, and mannerism.
Personally, I loved the film and really thought the make to be damn good.

His desire to keep on living no matter the cost all came out in his final moments, but it was this fear and weakness that cost him. Really, the mission was bound to go tits up in the first place, especially where very limited contact with the Engineers is concerned. The whole crew didn't really expect what they'd find and that fact ended up causing their deaths

to elaborate, he says "Val" or "Var" I don't know
he says it twice, I think this either means "why" or is simply a questioning term, or it means "you" in some way or another, that makes me think their language works similar to the order the English language is put in, and is probably demanding to know "why are you here
why are you in my place/ship/on this planet" all we're told is he wants to know why they're there

    • @bigdumbandkindascared5181

the second part of his speech is a lot more confusing, again we're I only told that he's asking why, but he doesn't say "Val/Var" whatever it is, so that might be a word specific to location and not meaning? I don't know I'm not a linguist, but the way he's gesturing is like "what do you mean? We are not equal, you are a project"
